  • In this panel, Eric Donnenfeld, MD, Kerry Solomon, MD, and Julie Schallhorn, MD, MS discuss the pressing need for treatments for presbyopic patients worldwide, and how premium and next-generation refractive IOLs can fill this need for many patients. Presbyopic IOL technology is constantly improving, and new designs are allowing more surgeons to introduce presbyopic solutions to their practices.

Many thanks for a great presentation.
Not clear though on the situation with accommodating lenses. I understand there is a lot of potential and they haven’t been approved yet (or have they by now?). But can we get some more insight into how they perform and whether it would (or not) be a good choice?

curious about timelines of future FDA trials for Rayner Sulcoflex supplementary iol, designed to correct diopter error, fits in ciliary sulcus?also FineVision Triumf edof trifocal combination technology? both available in UK. i’m living in California, contemplating going to England this summer for more advanced iol technology. Excited about FDA approval of Synergy. Wondering how it compares with BVI FineVision Triumf, available at Opthamology Consultants of London, OCL?

Thank you for the review on the synergy lens. I'm scheduled to have surgery in a couple weeks on my first eye. Who knew 53 is the new 75?

@MrVibeless It went alright. I still need glasses for a very slight astigmatism and for reading small print. I have trouble if there isn't enough light.

No mention of the Light Adjustable Lenses?!… I just had them put in a week ago. I can’t believe the clarity of night driving.
In a couple weeks, I will go in for my first adjustment. Right now I’ve got perfect distance and mid.
I’d take these lenses before anything mentioned in the video.

In 2022 Isn't there high lens replacement with panoptix? Some drs. I think don't use synergy much anymore? With eyehance what percentage is getting intermediate at 24 inche vs farther away.. What size font are people on average able to read (though everyone different) with eyehance. . I heard some doctors do mini mono with eyehance?? Does that mean they start one eye with .50?? Can you get roughly the same results with mini mono intermediate/distance with monofocal lens. What is average that people who just do plan distance get lucky and see computer clear at 24 inches. Is that very rare. Thanks

Grail trail had a 100% satisfaction rate for presbyopia. It'll be the standard iol from 2024.

I got the standard J&J lense just before I had the retinal membrane removed. It focuses at 22 inches. With no distance and no mid-range. It was suppose to be a distance lens. I'm very disappointed. I need to look into these new products

Great hangout! Thanks to all 3 docs for the informative and enlightening discussion. I have 2 questions to ask:
    1. Can the halo/glow induced by the trifocals/multifocals be reduced with polarized glasses.
    2. I heard one doc say that with the Panoptix lens, only 92% of the light enters the eye. Is this true and if yes, will brighter lighting compensate the 8% loss?

      @--2455 Před rokem

What is true is that Panoptix shows difficulties in dim conditions. As reading menu in restaurants. Consider that some retina issues reduce the light reception: you wanna avoid Panoptix if you have or potentially have in the future (ex relatively young patient with high myopia >10 diopters) a retinopathy

Toric&monofocal + glasses seem to be the best solution.
trifocal, edof, etc. will not get you a perfect vision, even worse you cant improve with glasses once you got these lenses implanted.
Maybe accommodating lenses will work future will show.

Just curious what happens if you are not happy with the lens that is inserted. Can a person have a lens removed and choose a different one? Some discussions on CZcams say that you are stuck with your first choice and it can't be changed out.

It can be replaced. But it is not recommended. And it is done very seldom. Max. is 6 months after the OP.

After some time especially if relatively young and especially with Panoptix or Vivity due to its material - the eye develops a second cataract known as PCO. It's treated in 5 minutes for free with YAG laser but leaves your eye with no barrier between the new artificial lens and the vitreous cavity, where it lays the retina. A replacement after a YAG procedure exposes you to risks of retinal damage in brief, and also some other risks.
