I have just come back from Disney and Universal - using fastpasses in both parks. I liked both systems. Disney's is more egalitarian - you say democratic, but there is no voting...
We only had 30 days to book as we weren't Disney and managed to get fast passes for everything save for the new rides - Slinky at HS, 7 Dwarfs at MK and Pandora at AK. Epcot only had Frozen and we did queue for that.
Universal worked great, and it now works on all rides. IMO it is worth the extra money. Most people want to spend more time at Disney than Universal therefore you can invest more time in the Disney fast pass (which you need to).

Omg I was excited about my first trip but now I'm feeling worried 😩 How about my family tag along with yours lol. I have a 3 year old so I'm not sure if we'll be getting on a lot of rides. Hopefully this first trip isn't extremely stressful.

Gosh there's so much to plan for. I'm a lazy traveller I hate having to organise things and I think that is one reason why we don't go on vacation a lot....my bad lol. Thanks for all the tips :o)

Looking to do US in June. How much time does the Ultimate pass save? Like at Disney you will wait about 15-20 with the Fast Pass. How long should we expect to wait either the ultimate pass? TIA!
Honestly park hopper for uni is worth it for hogwarts express
when you stay in the on-site hotels do you get the unlimited express per each day that you stay as a guess in the hotel?
I've used the two systems and i think Universal's is far superior. I've paid for express and have also gotten it included when I stayed at Hard Rock. You can spend 1000s to stay at a deluxe Disney resort and Disney won't give you anything like Universal do to their onsite guests at certain resorts. Fastpass used to be good, but now it is so limited it's not that great. This is even before you get to parks like Hollywood Studios and Epcot which group the attractions. If i pick a ride from one group it means i can't pick another one. The new Fastpass Plus system sucks.

I do not appreciate the systems to wait less in line. If they exist, it is only because the parks are overloaded and can not absorb the flow of customers. But to choose between the 2, it is that of Universal that to my interest. Why ? During a day of relaxation, it is not nice to always have a watch under the eyes and mind occupied by time management. Universal offers its undemocratic system a real day of relaxation that will pass quickly, until the sun goes down to remind you of the time!
Also, with one night in the hotels eligible for the "Fast-Pass" offer, it's 2 days of "unlimited Fast-Pass".
