      if they cast "insert profession" every time the model needed to present as "insert profession", the job for models wouldn't exist. It's literally in their job description to act and present as "insert any role/profession/art type/....". I don't get why is this such a foreign concept for people.

    Here's what gets me: the looks would be so cute WITHOUT pointe shoes. Just wear ballet flats, or flats that look like ballet soft shoes. You don't have to have the shoes, especially in a POINTE SHOE SHORTAGE.
    Edited to add: Josephine had a GREAT POINTE (lol). Use professional dancers in ballet inspired advertisements. That's really unfair to these dancers and disrespectful to not use them, and to use models who don't know what they are doing. It can actually be dangerous to the models and their bodies if they don't know what they are doing.

    • @kira540
      @kira540 Před rokem +19

      Exactly! I like what Rodarte did last year with their ‘balletcore’ collection. They made pointe-inspired heels that are very cute imo, but aren’t pointe shoes nor are they supposed to be. They also had at least one (that I know of) real dancer in the campaign in actual pointe shoes!
      Taking inspiration from ballet can be done so right, but unfortunately it’s rare to find. Most brands are just hopping on the trend.

      @annaluciaschmitz Před rokem +5

      Absolutely agree, every ballet dancer, like myself, would be disrespected.
      Ballet takes years of learning and with the right age, proper training, you can go en pointe, when the teacher is allowing it.
      When you are finally going en pointe, it takes years of training to look good in them and dance with them like they are not hindering you.
      The gracefulness with the pointe shoes, comes after hard training, sometimes bleeding and with setbacks every way if you want to move forward and be better.
      Said by a ballet dancer, who is dancing for 19 years now and is a professional ballet dancer/ballerina.

    Several dancers are also models with proper modeling agencies, it’s not that difficult to hire a real dancer if you want your model to pose on pointe, and bonus points…they actually know how to tie them so the photoshoot is actually going to turn out better.
    Same goes for musicians, so many bad photoshoots where the model doesn’t even know how to hold the instrument properly…just hire a musician.

    All of the ribbons draped under flat shoes instead of under the foot inside the shoe... the ribbons are gonna get so dirty, and then they'll slip around and the dirty will show!
    I'm not mad about the model in the soft slippers, though. I used to work at a grocery store and once a week I did an overnight shift changing all the weekly flyer price tags. I would wear my old ballet slippers inside my boots instead of socks so I could shed the boots as soon as the store closed (customers left) and the uniform didn't matter anymore. Way more comfortable! Plus, nobody cares HOW you move through the aisles when you're working an overnight price shift, right? Long aisles of lovely smooth floors and 8-foot shelves blocking the view of anyone else working overnight...

    • @dronesclubhighjinks
      @dronesclubhighjinks Před rokem +3

      Because they don’t know that. They want to look like a ballerina and think if they wear something vaguely tutu-esque and pointe shoes, they have succeeded. They may not be able to tell the difference between themselves and pictures or videos of real dancers unless a real dancer points it out to them.
      What seems completely obvious and second nature to dancers is not at all obvious to people who have never taken a dance lesson and who aren’t interested in learning about it or watching it either. They want a cute look for a short time, and then they want to follow the next trend whatever it may be.
      Non-dance people are absolutely astonished when they discover what an all-consuming commitment it is to be or to become a professional ballet dancer. I only found out when I discovered the TV show “Dance Academy.” When I told my friends about it, every single one of them was flabbergasted!
      I never had an interest in or appreciation for ballet before that. It seemed like an esoteric art form, which is kind of unapproachable and stand-offish, or even snobby. I was wrong!
      I’m glad I found out because it has turned me into a ballet fan! I have so much respect for everybody who participates, including small children and adult beginners.

    Sooo . . . I thought ballet core is a fashion thing intended to send the message, "Look, you can be as pretty as a ballerina while being awkward, untrained, gawky, not have good posture, just a normal girl dressing like a dancer." Or at least that's my take on that. Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City? And the real life Sarah Jessica Parker who wears ballet core to big events (and supports ballet)? I don't think the fashion people want the poised, trained, talented professional or amateur dancers because it moves "ballet core" fashion one step away from the general public. Who might be intimidated by the real thing because they slouch, they trip, they do any number of non-dancer movements but still want to dress like a dancer. Look at me, being all psycholig-atey. 😂

    I'm kinda torn on this. Non dancer models showing ballet-core, ballet inspired outfits is to advertise to other non-dancers that you don't need to be a dancer to enjoy ballet esthetic wear. If real dancers were used it would appeal more other dancers and non-dancers would feel timid in trying it out.

I also wish ballerinas were considered for modeling. they can move, pose with elegance, know their angles, and typically have lean leggy bodies that would work to sell fashion to the aspirational. Josephine, been wanting to write this for at least a year. Kept me up at times at night!! 😆You’re in such a unique position to revolutionize the world of ballet. Why can’t you make a more durable and comfortable shoe? With all the modern materials out there, imagine having a shoe that even lasts one month on the professional dancer? Or how thrilled parents would be to replace shoes less often? Or even college students of dance or anyone for that matter. And to have a shoe that conforms to the foot instead of deform and harm? If Nike and hoka can make some great shoes why can’t you? Pointe shoes have been made the same way from the beginning… we can’t do better for women and their feet? With all the modern materials out there, the diagnostic imaging, the 3d printing, we can’t have a flexible yet durable and beautiful shoe that is customizable to different feet? That isn’t hand made by a man? 🤣. Why we don’t have pointe shoes with built in memory foam and things like that to make it more comfortable and supportive, able to accentuate an arch, keep from puckering at the heel.. modern materials are capable it just needs a revolutionary. You’re in that position. Go change the world for the better. No revolutionary had it easy. Ballet is steeped in tradition and those who suffer want those who come after to suffer too. Start with the young and a transition shoe or the recreational dancer who needs that support. In time people will realize that greater and more beautiful things can be accomplished in the world of dance. If only their feet would be taken care of 😀🤣

    Josephine is being kind as always, but the reality of it is that no one is forcing those models to be involved in ridiculous shoots; nor does everything indeed have to be meaningful/ a big cause whatever. However, these examples only show that even from a business practice point of view you're failing to take advantage of what would be the best strategy to have the biggest impact with your marketing campaign - i.e. using those who know how to represent the environment you're supposedly trying to emulate...

    Ngl either hire models who were ballerinas eg hailey cuz she used to do ballet professionally or kazuha who studied ballet in europe under a company or ballerinas for actually interesting shoots

    I get what you say about casting ballerinas for ballet themed adverts but wouldn’t they be as misplaced there (ballerina as a model) as models as ballerinas? The two jobs are so different

    I don't see a problem here. Because to represent fashion, we have models. When the fashion is balletcore it's ok the models do their poses and dance, it's their job, when the fashion is punk, same thing, the models can fake the punk and they can do their poses,and that's ok. We don't need real ballerinas or real punks to represent fashion, because it's just an inspiration, it's just a fashion trend, nobody wants to diminish a real person, a real profession, they want to honor this lifestyle and say how amazing are the fashion elements of that lifestyle or that profession. Well, in my opinion, of course.

    There is nothing wrong with people wearing Leo’s and skirts and leg warmers and little wrap sweaters and whatever they think is “balletcore” as fashion. I get it, it’s cute. But please, leave the wish pointe shoes out of it. And the ribbons. And the attempting ballet moves. And if you want to live ballerina dreams, get yourself in an adult or teen ballet class - learn what it’s all about and invite dancing joy into you’re life! And fashion companies hire real dancers. Also can we stop calling everything an “aesthetic” gen Z thanks.

    I’ve done ballet my whole life, with a technical teacher, but I think it’s actually kinda cute when they do it wrong and even I do things with “bad” technique for more artsy pics sometimes. So, there’s a place for it in my opinion.

    This is faux balletcore real ones would not do most of those model photo shoots type outfits and would probably look more at ballet bodice, skirts as well as ballet look shoes (which they make for people who want the look of pointe)
