They were always fiercely competitive as sisters but when Joan beat her sister and won the Oscar for best actress that was then end of their relationship as sisters and friends. i think it shows a good preogression. it starts out super rich and warm like a sweet love story is unfolding, but as we progress, it becomes stark blues, grays, and whites that are grating on the eye and lend to an overall uncomfortableness and uncanniness. I dont think this movie is necessarily going for a classic film noir vibe, i think its a lot more embracing contemporary film palettes that feel unsettling and supernatural while unpacking the disturbing behavior of people. and warm doesn't necessarily mean comfortable either, overwhelming warm and oversaturated palettes can be very stifling and uncomfortable. Just my 2 cents!
I’m very excited for this. My babygirl Lily James and my baby boy Sam Riley in a movie together again? YESSS!!!! 😍😍😍 I knew Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett couldn’t stay away from each other.
Gosh I just picked a romantic movie from Netflix to watch ! And this popped up ..! Not bad !! And i didn’t expect the whole time that it was Kristin Scott Thomas as Mrs Danvers !!! AMAZING PSYCHOPATH ! The last movies ive watched of her were Random Hearts, English Patient and The Horse Whisperer and that was almost 20years ago !!! Amongst my forgotten favourite actor !! 😍 Pleased to see her again !!! ❤️
I'm not sure if I'll be able to watch this. Joan Fontaine brought a kind of vulnerability and insecurity to the role she played that I don't see here. And Laurence Olivier played Maxim as smug, condescending, and somewhat cold and distant. Don't know if I can get into a reimagining of this story. I do think Kristen Scott Thomas as Mrs. Danvers could be interesting, though.
@@gorey4more837Agreed. Hitchcock nailed Rebecca (1940). I've read the book twice. Fontaine was perfect...very young, naive, mousy, unsure and insecure (due in part of Hitch's instructions to alienate her and the fact that Olivier didn't particularly like her as he wanted his wife Vivien Leigh cast...she is what I imagine Rebecca to be instead). I liked someone's suggestion of Rufus Sewell. Still very handsome but older and age appropriate as Armie is too young for this and is no Olivier to pull an older Maxim even though Olivier was 10 years younger in real life than Maxim was in the book. But then someone a bit older than Lily James as it gets a bit creepy otherwise. Olivier played older and distinguished but he was only 10 years older than Joan Fontaine. In the book she was barely 20 or early 20s and he was in his mid 40s...don't think that would go down in today's Hollywood society. And there aren't any comparable actors like Oliver to play Maxim older despite being younger himself. And I adore KST. But Judith Anderson as Mrs. Danvers was so creepy and iconic...she was robbed of a Oscar win (though nominated for supporting.) And another star, in George Sanders, playing the delectably slimey cousin of Rebecca. He was most fantastic as Addison DeWitt going toe to toe with Anne Baxter (and Bette Davis) in All About Eve.
My only complaint is that Armie Hammer seems too young to play Maxim de Winter; the character of Maxim was supposed to be 42 and Armie is 34 (and looks it)
The 1940 Hitchcock film was so perfect, especially the casting, that they must be ambitious to attempt a remake. In the first, I actually found the hinted love of Crawley for Maxim to be elegantly tantalizing -and wonderfully portrayed by Reginald Denny. And, of course, the not so subtle love of Mrs. Danvers for Rebecca - superbly played by Judith Anderson. Tough competition.
Yay! Going into my Netflix list. Du Maurier is timeless....this will be my 3rd adaptation of Rebecca. The last one with Charles Dance (yes, Tywin) was also excellent besides the Hitchock version. For other Du Maurier fans, My Cousin Rachel (with Rachel Weisz), Scape Goat (BBC), and Jamaica Inn (PBS) were also great.

i think it shows a good preogression. it starts out super rich and warm like a sweet love story is unfolding, but as we progress, it becomes stark blues, grays, and whites that are grating on the eye and lend to an overall uncomfortableness and uncanniness. Just my 2 cents!
smiley eiligh
Exactly, I was just about to write something similar
I’m very excited for this. My babygirl Lily James and my baby boy Sam Riley in a movie together again? YESSS!!!! 😍😍😍
I knew Mr.
Does anyone know the song played in the beginning?
"Every marriage has secrets" i.e. he farts in bed.
Hahaha😂
Well he will not keep it for long...I am sure the secret gets out soon.
More like he has S&M affairs, is abusive and has a canibalism fetish
Tzuyu recommended this movie! Gonna watch it😍
yesss I love the darker turn this trailer took! and lily james!
what's the name/artist music during the beginning of the trailer?
Armie Hammer is certainly playing the role of a mysterious, charming fellow in this and Death on the Nile! This looks dark and intense!
Omg I can't believe they've finally made a movie out of the book!!! I hope it won't be a let down🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Love thriller and suspense movies. DEFINITELY gone watch it
Anyone is talking about that I can't see Armie and think: Oliver! Come back to Italy and be happy with Elio please
Love it with Emilia Fox and Charles Dance.
Love it too. I read the book many times and the cast of the mini series is perfect.
Just read the book, can't wait to see this (and the white dress!)! :)
got halfway thru the video before i realised its a remake of the film and book we studied in class last year
Rebecca, the 1940 movie is a masterpiece. This can’t compare but I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with it.
He is so good at playing a straight man in movies can't say the same thing in real life 🤐🙃💯
Whoever has edited this deserves a promotion
Armie is a great actor. I am looking forward seeing this movie.
Isn't anyone going to talk about this trailer music ❤️🤩🤩🤩
I read the book and the girl's character was a innocent girl this girl looks more experienced. The best Maxim de winter for me is Charles Dance.
Her name isn't Rebecca. Rebecca is the dead wife. The girl is never named.
You're right.
Yep I liked Charles Dance too but this version looks good.
I'm a huge Charles Dance fan, but for me the best Max was Jeremy Brett. He captured the presence, and the brittleness.
Agree - Charles Dance was great.
Best Mrs Danvers was Judith Anderson
Masterpiece, must watch...
I read the book long time ago!! Loved it!!! I can't believe they made a serie!!!!!😱😱😱😱😍😍😍😍
My only complaint is that Armie Hammer seems too young to play Maxim de Winter; the character of Maxim was supposed to be 42 and Armie is 34 (and looks it)
Just appreciate that they're making a film
seriously so what?
I can already tell that the black and white version is better than this one will ever be
The 1940 Hitchcock film was so perfect, especially the casting, that they must be ambitious to attempt a remake.
