    Tried the second myth and it works. I got 4 keikis from 3 stems. Two of them have a root each. Took 3 months but I can wait :D thank you for all the illuminating videos! Keep it up! You are great!

      Hi Danni, your videos have been an orchid life saver! My hubby brought home a flower spike of a Dendrobium Nobile abd i placed it in water. When the flowers wilted and fell off the stem was still green and well hydrated. I then lay it in a pot of orchid bark and moist sphagnum moss. The bare stem lay there for a few months and when our Summer rains occurred it sprouted 2 tiny leaves. I noticed that the stem had also produced some roots. Although small, the roots had grown into the moss. This little battler is still small but still alive despite us going away on holidays for 2 months. It's outdoors in the weather in Queensland, Australia. I live in hope that one day it will grow bigger.

    Hello, You mention about not being able to grow from a flower spike, one of our phalaenopsis got knocked into the bath and a flower stem broke, so I put it in the gravel water I keep the pots on, which are kept in oblong glass pyrex and the flowers carried on for weeks, I also have an aerial root growing low down on the stem and 2 new flower shoots with buds higher up, so here is hoping it continues, I felt really sad when it was broken, as it was so beautiful.

    Help!! I’ve left my 2 phelanopsis orchids on a windowsill in very bright hot sun by mistake . They were both about to flower and now do have blooms but the leaves are all floppy, wrinkled and VERY sickly looking HELP! Thanks to your videos I’ve kept these 2 plants alive and beautiful for 3 yrs, they’ve had a huge amount of beautiful blooms over and over, it would break my heart if I killed them 🙈

    • @SammiNorve
      @SammiNorve Před 2 lety +2

      Make sure they are moved away from the window a bit and give them a good soak for 10 mins or so before draining, sometimes the older leaves may already be on their way out and may not recover but if it's just dehydration not sunburn then the leaves should plump back up. When in bloom they often require more watering and nutrients as the flowers take alot of energy from the plant

    I went to a garden centre to get all things i now need to save my orchids, i was shocked at the state they keep their hot house plants in they have orchids bursting or away from their pots they have withered flowers and empty water trays, if i was allowed i would have saved a few, but i'm literally banned from buying any more plants no matter what kind LOL! they fascinate me, especially house plants cacti and succulants now orchids having been given a load over the summer.

    For years I cut phal spikes while still green, cut them in pieces with 3-4 nodes and just put them in little water but they never made keikies (I also tried ICU set up, same results). I recently got a keiki on a terminal bud from a mini phal after months of waiting, two other stems look promising. Might be genetics or just good timing. Conclusion: not a manageable method of propagation.

  • @marinasuprunenko1756
    @marinasuprunenko1756 Před rokem

    at the moment I have 3 phalaenopsis keikis that was grown on cutted spikes. one of them is 2 years old and is ready to bloom this autumn. success depends on many factors, but it is possible. still I have to say that chances to have keikies on a mother plant are much higher. but I stopped doing it because it takes a lot of resources and mother plant blooms worth with keikis.

    I have a phal with 2 keikis on the same flower spike, they are about 2 inches apart. Is it bad to have 2 on there? They started growing early Feb and March. Both are starting to grow there own roots and have 4 leaves each. Not sure name of mother plant, only know it is a white phal

    What si your opinión about porpagating Phaleanopsis through the Main stem? I cut Phaleanopsis in half and i add rootex or any other auxin in the wound, i let the wound dry, then i put the apical part into sphagnum Moss, the apical part starts growin roots and the Main stem of the other part grows Keikis. I think people do that with vandas i tried ir with Phaleanopsis with great results. I don't know what You think about this method.
    (Sorry for the shitty English)

    About the bifoliated Cattleya maybe they were not refering to Cattleya maybe they were talkin about Guarianthe it is the same as Cattleyas but from Central América and they are all bifoliated, they are really easy to care and propagate, it si like taking care of a ginger plant. People confuse bifoliated Cattleyas with Guarianthes

    On food scrap concoctions, e.g. potato skins in water, that will extract potato starch which does contain NPK, why is this not suitable as a fert?

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hi, because the chemical processes that are needed to break down the potato into something plants can use don't happen, you don't have enough microbes, worms and insects in your pot :)

      @@bonnieabrs1003 I love stories like that! I once bought a supermarket phal with huge gorgeous cascading blooms and I was tempted to leave it until the blooms finished, but decided to repot anyway. Glad I did, because the “plug” was stinking and rotten. That was last December, just before new year and the blooms are still lush and fresh!

    Question: My orchid has 3 flower stems from these 3 past years. The stems are still very healthy green, so I have not cut them off. However, the old stems have not bloomed. A new stem comes up instead. Should I cut those old flower stems off? (phalaenopsis)

    • @kathihutton7173
      @kathihutton7173 Před 2 lety +2

      Phalaenopsis orchids will not bloom on old stems. Cut them off as close to the stem as possible, since they are no longer necessary for the health and development of your orchid.
      Yes, you can leave a green stem on a Phalaenopsis in the hopes that it will develop a secondary spike or a keiki, but this puts unnecessary stress on the mother plant to support those structures at a time when she should be devoting her energy towards growing new roots and leaves.
      In short - cut them short.
