"There would be no eulogies for Bob, no photographs of his body would be sold in sundries stores, no people would crowd the streets in the rain to see his funeral cortege, no biographies would be written about him, no children named after him, no one would ever pay twenty-five cents to stand in the rooms he grew up in."
I think people still don't bother about Robert ford that's why despite being a masterpiece the film was commercially unsuccessful.
Good. Dead men tell no tales as this one was written by a still breathing one.
Why would Bob kill Wood Hite, especially when it was Liddil who pointed a gun at him? Wood had nothing against Bob at that time, except that he had an argument. He truly was a coward in that moment. What a strange, momentous decision.
wow.. tragic.
"no children would be named after him" hits the hardest, and then the fact that it's followed up by "no one would pay 25 cents to stand in the rooms he grew up in" just destroys you.
The atmosphere of this music is so full of tragedy, nostalgia and loss. As you get older those things become a bigger part of you. I listen to this and look back at the happy times, so long ago and far away and feel such a strange variety of emotions, love and joy that I had such happy times and sadness and grief that they are gone forever. Such a cathartic piece of music..
u still here brodha, theach us more plz.
When you get closer to the end the past is all you have.
@@STLOU87 Wow ! Profound comment 👀👌🏼
Your comment hits home…
True this is a masterpiece soundtrack so deep
He was ashamed of his persiflage, his boasting, his pretensions of courage and ruthlessness; he was sorry about his cold-bloodedness, his dispassion, his inability to express what he now believed was the case- that he truly regretted killing Jesse, that he missed the man as much as anybody and wished his murder hadn't been necessary. Even as he circulated his saloon he knew that the smiles disappeared when he passed by. He received so many menacing letters that he could read them without any reaction except curiosity. He kept to his apartment all day, flipping over playing cards, looking at his destiny in every King and Jack.
There would be no eulogies for Bob, no photographs of his body would be sold in sundries stores, no people would crowd the streets in the rain to see his funeral cortege, no biographies would be written about him, no children named after him, no one would ever pay twenty-five cents to stand in the rooms he grew up in. The shotgun would ignite, and Ella Mae would scream, but Robert Ford would only lay on the floor and look at the ceiling, the light going out of his eyes before he could find the right words.
Thank you for your words, with this music and my imagination, I cried…
❤️
@@PothePerson pretty awesome you took the time to write that out. Gives me chills reading and listening.. one of the greatest films/stories ever told
Just remember Robert Ford was only about 22 years old when he did this
This song alone is enough to get me to watch this movie
You should. Its the most underrated film ever made in my own humble opinion
One of my favorite soundtracks ever 🖤
Goes down smoothly when paired with my favorite movie, The soundtracks namesake... (tied with Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World w/ Russel Crow)
Me too
Nick and Warren's is always a pleasure. This my favourite of the soundtracks they have worked on together. I have just seen Blonde, and once again their music seems to be as important a presence in the film as any actor.
top 5, for sure!
It's beautiful
How this movie didn't win every award at the oscars is beyond me
It came out the same year as There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men, which is honestly understandable. Were it any other year it would've won BP for sure.
@@bendover2649 It's also because that's not how those awards work. They are PR events and you don't get them without award lobby money, and even then they favour established directors, or people who are "due". The Academy is a studio funded marketing organization and they only promote films that they determine will best represent their brand that year, and the technical awards are an afterthought. The jury has no autonomy and hasn't seen most of the films they are voting on anyway. The studio didn't believe in this film and it shows - it was barely nominated for any awards and only two Oscars, one for legend Roger Deakins, and one for Casey's supporting performance. If it just wasn't its year it would at least still have been nominated properly.
It makes sense once you look at the competition. It was quite the year for movies, with multiple masterpieces competing against each other.
@@drog.ndtrax3023 No, you shared your opinion and implied "conspiracy".
Not even saying you're wrong, you might be correct, but let's not pretend that what you shared is more than your opinion and ultimately, this movie falling short is very reasonable, the competition considered.
@@NPC_-mf4dw That's a basic reality about the world which is easily researched if you are interested, and you should be if you want to understand film better. Only a small number of films the studios decide will define their brand that year are allowed to be voted on, and the jury panel has not even seen most of those. The technical awards are an afterthought and the academy has no autonomy over that either. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is an organization paid for by the studios as a marketing device. Look up the Vox article, How to Win and Oscar.
Listening to this music breaks a part of me, I'm dying
This is one of the most moving pieces of music I have ever heard. I've never seen the film.
You really need too, this song just ….it brings it all together
please do, its beautiful
Absolutely great character study. Even if you aren't into westerns it's absolutely worth a watch
The film is.brilliant.
Huh! I'm in my 40's, and have seen a lot of movies in my time, trust me.. this film and soundtrack are among the best ever made ❤❤❤
This song in itself is perfection personified, a humbling yet tragic cataclysm of emotions felt in every possible way.
This film and this soundtrack are masterpieces.
That is the most beautiful song Ive ever heard it made me weep
This movie is a jewel
I keep asking myself if the movie just hit the right notes with me but the more often I watch it, the more I get enchanted by the humanity it oozes. Deakins and his naturalistic style couldn't have been a better choice for cinematography and although I haven't heard as many songs by Nick Cave or Warren Ellis, it's hard to miss how much they bled into that movie as well as the rest of the people involved. This movie is a poem of humanity itself. About it's weakness and it's strength. Not to mention the deep psychological dive into an American myth, that has been demystified and put into the right context of human experience. No heroes, no gods. Simply humans. The characters are depicted so realistically that you can't help but see yourself in them. You can perfectly imagine being the one putting the guns down in front of the men you suspect will kill you, as well being the one pulling the trigger on the man you suspect will bring your death. The irony. One had his final last words and the other one died before finding the right ones. In this regard you can't help but ask yourself which ones will your own end be similar too. Pitt gives a fantastic performance but it's Affleck that mesmerizes me every time I watch it. Maybe a lot of his feelings of himself as a person being Ben's brother went into the performance. And most certainly I would hypothesize that it did, because for me personally, it's the only explanation he was able to give such a deep-cutting performance. I love this movie. Fuck the box office. And I only hope that all people involved understand, what a masterpiece they created. And that the money the studio lost is worth a damn next to the humane achievement they manifested. On the other hand, I am drinking my third beer while I'm writing this. So what the fuck do I know.
This is probably the most well-written and intelligent comment I've ever read on CZcams.
I agree with everything you said.
Wow, that was an amazing summation of the movie. Spot on. I don't know what it is about this movie but I think it is one of the best I have ever seen.
You know enough amigo 👌🏼 spot on !
So much to agree with and admire from the above ...but just hitting "like"...RIP all of us......
A beautiful film. I have trouble putting into words why it hit such a nerve in me.
Casey Affleck was perfect in his role.
One of my favorite tracks in a movie ever.
It’s not Brad Pitt who makes this movie. It’s the story. They all deserve an applause 👏
Whoa, hold up. For me this is probably the best Pitt I´ve ever seen, but also Casey Affleck & Sam Rockwell were outstanding. Can´t agree, it just the stoty. It´s stellar performances, music, these nature shots and the story.
Tbf, Pitt quite literally help made the movie. He produced it and was responsible for getting Andrew Dominik's cut into theaters when Warner Bros tried taking the film away from him.
What really brings a tear to my eye when it comes to Bob, is the very personification of the man. We all make mistakes when young, we all have dreams of greateness and and tend to romantizice the badassery in men. I have came across people whom I used to know back when I was 18, 19, 20 and some of them had even asked me if I remember this or that thing I said, my overral view of the world and its almost as if they were making it up or talking about someone else, that's how volatile our younger years are. Most of us outgrow our mistakes and outgrow from a certain mindset into adulthood, im only 33 and I can barely recognize my stupid 20 year old self, the thing and big difference making it an outmost tragedy is how Bob outgrew his 20 year old self, but the world didnt, he was defined by his youngling mistakes and one of those defined the man for eternity as the coward who shot mr howard.
THERE WOULD BE NO EULOGIES FOR BOB" Those words speak volumes cause as history marched on and myths grew Robert Ford became a footnote to history and mostly known for just being the guy who killed a legend
The most unrated pic of Pitt. A masterpiece
This film is a master piece. This shows that life of a bad guy is full of tragedies. Jesse was almost died from inside.
And, that cold, droning cello at the very end...
One of the best films ive ever had the pleasure of watching. It very much portrayed how paranoid Jesse James was throughout thr last year of his life
I've been photographing abandoned houses here in Finland since 2004 and still this song is for me that one to catch them all and all those emotions in them; emptiness, sadness, lost dreams, beauty and so on. Absolutely awesome song.
Tell me about it.
Just saw Nick Cave & Warren Ellis together with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in Melbourne. The performance concluded with this beautiful piece. Wow, the arrangement by Nicholas Buc was absolutely stunning. I'm really hoping they recorded it.
hairylittlewombat in Australia lmao you're one lucky SOB
I love nics podcast THE ART OF THE SCORE!
There is a good audience recording from the second night with the MSO in 2019 and the encore performance of Push The Sky Away was released on the B-Sides & Rarities (Part II) collection, where the credits say 'recorded by ABC Classic' but don't specify which night, so they presumably recorded the whole show in such great quality and we might get to hear it one day in some Nick & Warren box set.
I've got that bootleg but don't remember where I found it .. seek and ye shall find!
A beautiful soundtrack. Like the bittersweet recovery of previously lost memories.
The best ever created piece of music in genre "tragedy and drama" ahead of OSTs like John Williams "Shindler list", Hans Zimmer "Gladiator" and Max Richter "Hostiles"
Nick, Warren thanks from the botton of my heart. This is the best song ever made, for me. Is so deep and powerfull....Its beautyfull. My favorite song since i knew it. And probably forever. When i think in a break down or a mind changing experience, i just listen to this song. And when i want to hear somenthing that makes me feel deeply , i hear it. And whrn i want to hear the best song ever made, i hear The song of Bob. I feelso many things anytime that almost think taht the answer to the life is in these notes. Once again, thank you from the deep of my soul. You are awesome.
Masterpiece absolute
This piece always makes me shed a tear.
2007
I will never not be mad at Warner Bros for dumping this to only 301 screens and deliberately letting the film flop financially just because an exec there didn't like the final cut.
completely agree
Wonderful. So delicate the piano, so sweet the violin, so perfect the whole track. So great Nick, Warren and the orchestra.
So sad that this movie kinda tanked at the box office. This was one of Brad Pitt’s better roles in my opinion. So underrated for an outstanding performance as well as a great movie.
Yep, amazing movie that people still don't know about.
Both actors are outstanding.
these type of movies are not for your average tard
Pitt himself said that of all the roles hes played, this was his favorite..
@@perryjoseph616 C A R A L H O
tbf, it's not really the audiences fault it bombed. Warner Bros deliberately tried to kill it because they wanted a more action oriented film, and what they got was this. It's why the film was delayed from Fall of 06 to 07.
I listen to this soundtrack all the time. It is 1 so the most amazing.
Should I feel ashamed for crying loud every time I see the movie's end with this music?
Don’t worry bro so do I. This and heat are the only two movies that make me cry.
No.
nah not at all. It's a very emotional piece of music.
The first time I watched the movie, I think back in 2008, I was alone in the dark in my TV room, I remember being scared of Brad Pitt's interpretation. Such an unpredictable man Jesse bacame and Pitt mastered in creating the atmosphere of fear and
anguish.
Brad Pitt is a very underrated actor because of his looks. I really do believe that..
This music is so important to this film. It tells the sad and true story of Jesse James. Mesmerizing...
This it's My favorite song ever. In my opinion the One and only
memorable moody stirring......superb!

They are so good with soundtracks
I think this is Brad's best work. He deserved to be at least nominated for an Oscar. Was he ?
I agree. He also stated that it was his favorite role he ever played.
He wasn't. But he won the Best Actor prize at the Venice Film Festival.
The truth is Jesse James Died in the Civil War; what rode home was a rouge highwayman. RIP
Just.....beautiful......
damn fine film, damn fine music.
Richard B. I agree with every single word you wrote. This (master)piece embodies for me the French word « Egregore » : it gathers and shares perfectly and with great delicacy a full range of intimate emotions we all hide or keep within.
good but sad movie.
That, my friend, is called melancholy.
Come non essere rapiti da tanto sentimento?
Bravo Nick e stupendi Semi cattivi, sparsi sulla strada di chi non ha meta.
A beautiful piece of music. Nick Cave is a genius and truly a great man
A very great film in all respects, unknown in France.
The film Twilight, in which the psychopathic “hero” Brad Pitt and his "tortured" fan Casey Affleck play wonderfully.
Without really violence, an atmosphere that nevertheless gives you goose bumps, by the accuracy of the staging, the game, the landscapes. All sublimated by a music that accompanies these destinies.
Exactement je ne connaissais pas je l’ai regardé aujourd’hui et … Waaaw Quelle claque
tbh its kinda unknown in the states too. Not many theaters played it.

"Hello, Bob." The shotgun would ignite, and Elle Mae would scream. But Robert Ford would only lay on the floor, looking up at the ceiling. The light going out of his eyes, before he could find the right words.
They didn’t applaud.
ONCE again ❤ this is the best song ever. Has so many levels. And goes straight to your heart ❤️. People like doing this song. And it's like a message to the world 🌎. It keeps going deeper and stronger 💪. It came to the point that no one can resist emotionally the power of the song. The song explains you where are you problems and where are your strength. Shows you, wich is the way to be the person you wanna become. It's so simple and so, I mean soooo complex. That it's a real puzzle 🧩 to the mind and heart ❤️. This is a master piece that goes far away from Vivaldi or Chopin . This is the song of Bob. Like Bob was something else. Brad Pitt, Jesse James, the mug. The atmosphere, ande the will. All is in the song. I can't say it in other words. The best song ever. Thanks from the bottom of my heart ❤️💜❤

Eminem’s space bound is a sample of this song mixed with R.E.M drive. Fun fact
He was ashamed of his boasting, his pretensions of courage and ruthlessness. He was sorry about his cold-bloodedness, his dispassion, his inability to express what he now believed was the case: That he truly regretted killing Jesse. Edward O'Kelly came up from Bachelor at 1 p.m. on the 8th. He had no grand scheme, no strategy, no agreement with higher authorities. Nothing beyond a vague longing for glory and a generalized wish for revenge against Robert Ford. Edward O'Kelly would be ordered to serve a life sentence in the Colorado Penitentiary for second-degree murder. Over 7000 signatures would eventually be gathered on a petition asking for O'Kelly's release, and in 1902, Governor James B. Orman would pardon the man.
There would be no eulogies for Bob, no photographs of his body would be sold in sundries stores, no people would crowd the streets in the rain to see his funeral cortege, no biographies would be written about him, no children named after him. No one would ever pay 25 cents to stand in the rooms he grew up in.

Funny how in retrospect we can be both roles. That’s the beauty of this film to me.. to be able to make you empathise with both Jesse and Bob.
