Started watching hockey in 1970. My all time favorite player was Cam Neely, just as tough as he was a talented goal scorer. A year or two after he came to the Bruins from Vancouver management actually asked him to back on on his fighting a bit so he could become the goal scorer that he became. He was an exciting player to watch.
The bruins used to do their preseason camp out in Wilmington Mass. prior to building the warrior rink ,… I went to watch them one fall with my nephew , there was a roped off section where the coaches , general manager etc would stand and watch them practice which was only 20 or 30 feet away from the public , I was looking at their section and Neely happened to look my way so I waived to him ,.. he shot me a dirty look back like I was some kind of weirdo ,…lol ( he’s the best ! )

Hockey is three skills all in one. You have to be able to handle the puck. You also have to be able to skate. If you're missing either skill you arent going to play. The third skill is not just the ability to fight, but the ability to know when to fight.

I'm from Boston and I can agree whole heartedly. My aunt got me a Yankees hat in 8th grade and I loved it (I was never a baseball fan btw). Freshman year in High School I got beat up in a stairwell for wearing the hat. I learned pretty fast that you don't wear NY apparel in Boston....period. Refs put the whistles in their pockets and it's back to basics! I enjoy the basics as much as any biped who watches hockey, but what good is it that a team like Tampa Bay wins the President's trophy only to crumble in the first round against a team who only qualified in the last 3 weeks of the season ? Bring back the old format if you're gonna play it both ways! President's trophy winner gets to play team 16 in the ranks, 2nd takes 15th and so on. You'd have a better chance of seeing truer rivalries in the finals. And it would mean you could meet a team from the other conferences in the 1st round or your division rivalry in the final.... CANDY!!!!

Having played hockey I remember being on the bench between shifts. Similar to OVI I took a puck to the cheek bone an inch from losing an eye. Put my visor down and went out for the next shift, if anyone says hockey players aren't tough you've never played.

I'm from Boston and I can agree whole heartedly. My aunt got me a Yankees hat in 8th grade and I loved it (I was never a baseball fan btw). Freshman year in High School I got beat up in a stairwell for wearing the hat. I learned pretty fast that you don't wear NY apparel in Boston....period. I ended up using that same hat only during rugby practice from sophomore year onward.
I used to think that Boston fans were animals until I moved to the Philly area. I think Philly fans have only been walking on two legs for a couple of generations.

I enjoy the basics as much as any biped who watches hockey, but what good is it that a team like Tampa Bay wins the President's trophy only to crumble in the first round against a team who only qualified in the last 3 weeks of the season ? Bring back the old format if you're gonna play it both ways!
President's trophy winner gets to play team 16 in the ranks, 2nd takes 15th and so on. You'd have a better chance of seeing truer rivalries in the finals. And it would mean you could meet a team from the other conferences in the 1st round or your division rivalry in the final.... CANDY!!!!
