  • Just a preview of what I have been working on recently, combining all the available sources for the Beatles rehearsing on January 23 1969. I've been using a b&w VHS tape with raw footage, as well as Get Back, the sneak peek, as well as several Get Back promos to reconstruct the footage. For now, here are all the scenes in the control room. Enjoy!

    Grew up with The Beatles and have maintained the obsession but they had been superseded at this point by many emerging bands. Seeing them here virtually captives of their former greatness. John especially a reduced figure. In the "beat" days he was the driving force of the band.

    • @brianmcneil6171
      @brianmcneil6171 Před 2 lety +4

      So let's count the hits they produced between January and September of 1969-yeah just "former greatness". The John statement I agree with but overall, man, they were on fire, so obviously I disagree. "Abbey Road" is still considered the best work they did and one of the greatest albums of all time.

    • @Wildlifeonwheels
      @Wildlifeonwheels Před 2 lety +2

      @@brianmcneil6171 look at their rooftop "gig", having to do re-takes, incapable or unwilling to play before a live audience. John was right: it was Paul and friends by this stage. Look at John's 'set' in Toronto, Dizzie Miss Lizzie, Blue Suede Shoes. Now look at Stones, Doors, Creedence, Zeppelin, CSNY, Pink Floyd. Simon and Garfunkel, Doobie Brothers... all spawned by The Beatles magic i have no doubt...

    Even a band that has hit after hit after hit are still buzzing when they know they have something good brewing. For most of us it never happens. For some of us it happens once. For a few it happens once or twice. For the greats it happens maybe 7 or 8 times.
    For the legends it just keeps on coming.
    But I think it's mostly about living in a time ready to accept the music that turns you on, and finding kindred spirits.

    Update: July 2022
    From some of the comments here, I guess I should mention that I am in my seventies and am a child of the turbulent sixties.
    A great time to be a teen-ager. It was when these bands were actually on the road blazing new trails, performing live with songs they had just written or recorded a few months before. The road was still fresh and being paved.
    It was all new and there was no such thing as "autotune" or computer algorithms churning out songs it is programing you to like.

      It was all filmed in color. I think the black and white footage here is the cutting copy that got leaked somehow.
      Michael Lindsay-Hogg would copy the footage to a black and white stock (cause it was cheaper, I think) and sync up the Nagra audio tapes there.
