    Good tips. I started noticing this several years ago when everyone was talking about correcting pelvic tilt (same as your putting hips forward). Then I discovered that shoulders back helps me lift my entire spine up and back. Then I discovered at the kitchen counter that tightening my glutes helps with the pelvic tilt. I remember the parenting mantra of my childhood "sit up straight, don't slouch, get your elbows off the table" - I always thought that was just about being proper but now I know it was about health. My back pain is the result of decades of spending all day in a chair for office work, then leaning over a work table in my frame shop, then stooping squatting and bending over all day gardening and landscaping. Now that I'm practicing better posture and using my core muscles I have very little lumbar pain.

    Thanks Klassen. I have exactly this problem. I want you to know that you have a market with people who had to use a walker after surgery, injury, or just to support them if they are old and feel unstable. The problem is that prolonged use of a walker can cause forward lean because that is what one usually does when using a walker. So if someone uses a walker, you might help them recognize this tendency to avoid developing forward lean and if they have already developed the posture, they might use your ideas in conjunction with the use of a walker or after using a walker. Hope this observation is helpful. Thanks again.

    Thank you and my reason for walking that way is similar to yours, a little extra weight mixed with low confidence n self esteem, also due to illness sitting in badly designed couch all day. I recently pulled my pelvic ligament that made things worse so I stumbled on this video finding hip flexor and posture fixing exercises. Deffo going to try this, "lead with hips".

    Good tip, another thing is to learn to roll your shoulders back and down and tuck under your pelvis and not let your ribs pop. Another reason why people lean over is very tight thighs, both front and back. A good stretch will help that. Thank you for the video

    Back issues lead to me leaning forward at the waist. After a spinal fusion it's better but when I pass by a mirror I see how awful I look bent at the waist.
    If I don't concentrate on my posture in a second I'm right back where I was. It even feels odd to stand straight anymore, like I'm bumping out my chest.
    Leading with the hips is a good idea and hopefully with enough practice it will become natural.

    I have this problem after getting a tummy tuck surgery. I also have a back problem.. I was a dancer and always had excellent posture so I was shocked when I realized how I am walking when I saw myself in a video. No one warned me of this side effect, but it makes sense because my abdominal muscles are really tight now. That is what I wanted, but I never even thought about it pulling my whole body forward. I used a walker right after the surgery and it is like I'm still in that posture. .

      It’s your gluteus minimum it is weak and isn’t able to keep your back in the right position. I’ve had this issue for years. Now in PT for it. Not just for posture. It could be back pain and squatting alignment issues (lean to one side from stance in volleyball didn’t help. Had to be on toes all the time and one foot was bit behind the other one) . Watch yourself do a squat in the mirror or someone actually watch your form (my team didn’t watch, 5 minutes at doctor she knew exactly what was causing me severe pain)

    I feel like I'm the only person in the world that has the complete opposite problem. My upper body is upright and my legs are the thing that leans forward. If I try to line them up with my upper body, I go off balance and fall backwards. Googling it either shows me "upper body forward lean" like in the video, or leaning forward too much during squats.

    wow. i have been trying to figure out why when i try to fix my lean i get a burning pain in my stomach muscles well youngster you have blown my mind. our stomach muscles are connected to our hips....huh? Im speechless really. My problem is i lean very bad towards my right side. I too had insecurities growing up thar caused me to have bad posture. mine ws being flat chested and trying to hide that fact. about 14 years ago i fixed thar with the help of tax returns and a plastic surgeon. so then i walked straight up wnting to show off my new chest. i even walked and sat with my shoulders back. then about 5 years ago i saw my reflection in a window of a building and i was walking almost at a perfect angle like my legs are the big line of an upper case L and my torso is the smaller part. what the hell caused that? went to the doc and she blamed it on poor sleep.....huh.....yeah i dont think so went to another doc also blamed it on the way i sleep he said i must sleep in an uncomfortable position. AAAAAHHHHH frustration ........so i have been trying to fix it myself. I have a million different braces and insoles for my shoes special yoga poses i live and breathe icy hot. the reason im telling you all this......after watching 17 hours of self help shows tutorials medical advice etc YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO MAKES ANY SENSE and you dont talk just to hear yourself talk thats cool i wish you were a doc however even though you are not one Im curious to know your thoughts about my leaning to the right problem and starting today 12/2/20 im going to try the mental tricks you were talking about but i really hope to hear what else you may think of. i will try anything because ive literally tried everything that I know of. so help............delilahdeath8@gmail.com Thank you for reading this and i appreciate you

    Dont take this personal because you seem like a good dude, but the advise to just walk with a better posture is total shit, i have done that for 10 years and it didnt do shit, what you need to do is strengthen the weak muscles that make you out of balance and maybe stretch the tight ones. You can stand up straight for the rest of your life but those 20 mins extra you will do it every day will do nothing for your muscles' strength it will just postpone the irritation a bit and it will never fix the problem since when you get tired of staning up straight youll automatically go back to whats comfortable for your body.

    • @KlassenExercise
      @KlassenExercise  Před 5 lety +3

      You are not wrong. There are cases where additional help is required- like corrective stretching or improving weaknesses. Bad posture is most commonly built up from carrying bad posture every day for a long period of time, so this video is just a simple reminder to always check in on how your posture is to prevent things like muscular imbalances or do simple corrections. The more you correct, the more "good" becomes normal to your body.
      If you have been walking around with "good" posture for 10 years and "it didn't do shit," either your posture may not have been as good as you think OR you were neglecting your own muscular imbalances for 10 years before you looked to CZcams for help.
      Thanks for your input and I hope you find the advice your looking for.

    • @respeezy
      @respeezy Před 5 lety +4

      @@KlassenExercise No you cant walk around with good posture if your muscles are out of balance that's my point no one can keep that up the moment your attention shifts you will fall back into the comfortable bad posture. You can like i did and obsess over it and correct your posture 20+ times a day. But still the weak muscles will get tired and the tight muscles will pull so all those other moments between you standing up straight etc you will be in a bad posture, this AND standing in the correct posture even if you were able to do it for the whole day which no one can, will just slightly increase the endurance and not increase strength of the weak muscles. Again, not trying to be an asshole but i want to save people the dissapointment, since i did the same thing. The moment i started strengthening the right muscles i started improving my posture.
