v8 ski top speed 2022

- This video will not change your life, but you might find it interesting to see the v8 ski doing speed run after speed run with changes every run to see what improvements can be had. How fast is the V8 powered personal watercraft? Since it will go faster next year, a better question is how fast is it in 2022? That is exactly what we are going to figure out in this video. We well be doing lots of speed runs and working to dial in the jet pump setup for the naturally aspirated 6.0 ls based v8 that is currently in the ski.

Love the sound of that thing
Gotta love that v8 sound 👍
@@JetSkiBrothers you have any ideas
As the old saying goes, "all blow and no go"
Definitely didn't disappoint!!
You had me at the very first start up... the v8 sound is just soooo sick.
I do have to say. This was a really good video. I've been watching you guys from the beginning. But the amount of parts and labour in this video is insane! You guys did a great job!
You guys are the innovators of the V8 jet-ski world. There are no others.
bs
Great work gents. Love seeing multiple runs with different parts/mods to see what improved overall. Well done!!!!!
Thanks, we could have done a video for every test day but decided to condense it all into one video so it would be easier to follow along 👍
It's kinda crazy how normal it looks but as soon as it turns over you know something is off
I missed a lot of episodes but I'm very impressed with the work and dedication to float a V8 in this boat It's fast. From the first video when I thought you were in to deep you proved me way wrong you killed the project nothing but respect for this one. Your son will look back and say that's my dad he dragged me along and kept me in the action. Well done Stay safe looking forward to your future videos. There's definitely head room on this one
I love all your videos .But this is the one I have been waiting for in the V8 jet ski series . Thank you for making it .
🍻👍thanks
Fastest V8 jetski in the world and i got to see it's progress from the very beginning!!! Holy smokes I'm so pumped for you guys!!! Thanks so much for sharing this monsters progress with us, I've had an absolute blast watching!!!
@notfiveo Yeah, complete waste due to being way too heavy and too fuel costly. There is a 4cyl ski making 1200hp and going 135mph right now. He's so far behind with this v8, it's ridiculous.
But yet he did what I been wanting to do for a while so it's cool. 😎
This is a waverunner not a JetSki. Kawasaki owns the trademark to the name Kawasaki and it’s we Todd did to call waverunners jetskis
This is my favourite CZcams channel - keep the amazing coming! I love that your fam compound includes your kid in the action too. I envy you
Without a doubt, this is the best sounding ski. That V8 American sound screaming out of
a ski going 85 MPH is a win win in my book. If the fastest ski in the world and the V8 ski
both parked on a crowded beach, im certain that the V8 ski would get more attention.
Great work guys , the pump can give more speed yet by having pressure bypass valves in front of the impeller in the housing that bolts to the transom . I run two pressure relief lines into one way valves that dump the water out the back beside the pump outlet . What this does is allows excess water pressure that can damage the pump tunnel to be managed and controlled so the tunnel does not inflate like a balloon ever so slightly each time you go top speed , reduces fatigue of the structure of the hull and drag .
Sounds similar to a wastegate on a turbo, and makes sense.
Why not engineer maximum through put?
@@markharmon4963 Yamaha never thought people would be pushing their hull to such high speeds and never designed the intake for maximum efficiency.
@@markharmon4963 the pump can only process so much water and once you exceed the point it can intake the water you get pump stuffing like you seen in the video, it's very dangerous especially at 80+mph
Pressure reliefs are for avoiding stuffing and each one reduces top speed. At some point, it is a necessary safety device.
Some of the best documented R&D I have seen!! Awesome work guys!
Wow, thanks!
Gday fellas,
I’m binge watching! Can’t get enough of this. I’m really impressed with the level headed approach you guys are taking working your way through this.
Very cool!
Cheers 🍻
That thing is a beast!! The torque I imagine when you hit it at low speeds is crazy and looks like it wants to flip on its side! I love it! On start up that burst of water is sick too! I know non of this matters at all but it sure looks cool!!
I think you guys did an amazing job, that thing is wicked!
Great activity, camera work and editing; this has to be some of the nicest action /interaction in a little while. Not including the Joel stuff, loved all that cross-channel work you did for each other. Please keep keepin on and maybe think about if a thirstier impeller pitch might help load up the bored out cone and nozzle.
Cheers on the record for your LS swap!
Thank you, yes I’m sure we’ll be seeing more or Joel in the future. Obviously we like having him around👍 We worked hard to make this a better video then previous ones, so you mentioning that helps me know we are on the right track👍 seriously thanks for the feedback. 🍻
@@JetSkiBrothers I also recommend install a good fuel pressure gauge to a fitting install right on top of the tunnel inside the hull just right above the shaft that’s where the pump is most pressure is loaded , that way you can keep an eye on your water pressure to see what changes you need , you just might need a higher rpm pitch this ski likes to see no more then 30 lbs and no more then 50 when comming off throttle or it will buck you, the higher the rpm and the more steady the pressure is your sweet spot. Nice build long time follower
We aren't done yet, still have big plans for the V8 ski! Recommend you subscribe so you can follow the progress.👍🍻
Man, that LS sounds sooo good up on the pipe, and even N/A, it's quick as hell! It's amazing how the little tweaks to the pump and induction plate, etc. make a difference in speed and handling. Looks like the 160mm pump may be the way to go if you turbo-charge it!😄
Sounds amazing! Never thought of the water version of the "boss hoss" motorcycle
i knew a 3dprinted nozzle would work on a modded 701 but had no idea it would work on a v8 jetski! nice work
I love this thing...
Keep theses videos coming
You should have a race spec life vest rated for high speed impact and an unconsious victim. They make sure you float face up to prevent drowning in that case. Just lookin out for ya.
I want I want I want, it's like you took a childhood dream of mine and turned into reality, excellent craftsmanship
Great video. You guys love what you do!
Парни красавцы! Большую работу проделали! Жму руку! 👏
Love y’all’s channel. Amazing Work !
Damn that is sick! I can guarantee that if you set aside all of the r&d and testing and experimental purchases, knowing what you know now, if you were to start from scratch you could totally hit the same target speed as riva stage three at a much lower coast and probably same if not better reliability! Awesome job guys! It’s been a blast to follow along through the whole journey with you guys from the wet bike days to this! You haven’t even begun to tap into power adders and things like the fzr hull shaving mod that is supposed to be a huge benefit. Tuning it to run on e85 could yield some nice gains! Who knows the sky is the limit but you have made an outstanding baseline for naturally aspirated power!
Funny thing is thanksgiving with Holley coming on board and giving us a bunch of parts we came in less than that 7k for a stage 3. Even with all the r and d, but yeah like you said now we could do for even less knowing what we know now. The v8 ski is definitely the most entertaining and interesting thing I have ever built so it will be fun to continue modifying it in the years to come. Thanks for being a long time supporter for us, you 1000% cool 😎👍
@@JetSkiBrothers you guys are 1000% cool! The v8 ski is definitely the only one of its kind! Can’t wait to see what is in store this upcoming season!
FYI ethanol and water crafts are a bad combo. it attracts water in the air and condensates in the tank. this is one of the reasons most marinas offer ethanol free gas.
need to try a haybusa built engine in one too you can push those way up to punch way above their class. R&D on the rpm max an engine can supply to the tunnel basically whats the limit on that and can we reach itor exceed it via engine rpm @@JetSkiBrothers
that also brings in mind the R6 engine too 16k redline
You guys have done outstanding!!! Glad to have been able to watch the project
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@JetSkiBrothers I’ve learned a lot from your content and it’s been a huge help in getting my fleet for veterans together!!! I’ve been bringing back older junk jets mid 90s stuff to life….. bringing back the broken for the broken 💚
Oh my goodness that sounds absolutely amazing 💯🙌
That’s awesome
Very cool build man
Sounds great too
Thanks 👍
Sir. You have balls of steel. I love the project for you not me. 😂. Always super cool to put big power into anything
That’s insanely super fast. Love your work guys.
Thanks so much!
That ski sounds sick! I was wondering if the handling changed with the larger motor in it? Center of gravity etc. Cool video, thanks for sharing this with us.
I can guarantee you it did and not for the better
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻really good work 👍🏼 it’s sounds incredible good , and if I ever should have a jet ski it would be a build from you 🤙🏼so cool
I think this is the Most BADASS Jetski I've ever seen.
This is terrifying? My modified XLT Yamaha would do 72 and I did not have the balls do do it often! I cannot imagine going this fast. These guys are amazing!!
Good job guys keep up the good work
Awesome keep the good work you guys are great
How did I miss this. Nice work.
JSBros! Fantastic been waitin a long time for this vid, and it's perfect.
You have more torque then any other machine out there. Now we are looking forward to what you knuckle heads are gonna do with it.
More water intake.
Faster rpm for the impeller.
Smaller nozzle to build pressure.
Some weird robust gearing needed!!!
To make it all happen!!!
Damn Boyz, lookin forward to all the engineering shinanigans!!!
My son and I will be watching.
Thank you very much!
Man, that just sounds so good!
..... turbo? 😁 love the build guys! Congrats on the speed, takes a well built machine to get there and do it over and over!
I really doubt it. Too little space and any plastics/ electronic wiring car be burnt to a crisp if close enough. I wouldn’t call it safe to drive at that point granted it ain’t too safe now.
An N/A LS7 H/C/I would be sick and can push upwards of 700 horsepower.
Thanks 👍
Its crazy how much power a PWC needs to get to "just" 85mph compared to an outboard. I'd also say the biggest gains from here will come from hull blueprinting ie. sharpening all the rounded edges and making sure its razor-strait last 1/2 of the hull in a triangle-shape.
Thats right. The V8 is heavier than the 4 cylinder engine that the hull was actually designed for. Speed could be improved with wider planing surface on the hull.
A turbo 4 cylinder hydro foil with a propeller at the bottom of the foil? I don’t know that much about how that would all work I’m just guessing that would be fast
Just the sound of the V8 engine is worth the price of admission and 85 m.p.h. ain’t too shabby. The jet spray can be used to kill fires if need be. Nice job guys.👍👍🇨🇦
Awesome work guys!!
So awesome watching y'all dial it in. 160mm was defiantly the way to go. Can you repitch and get the rpm up? Whats the max rpm that motor can handle I saw 5300 Im going through this myself.
Great job on the ski. I do follow this one guy on CZcams who deals with jetskiies and when he does a test one i notice he leans back. That way hes more aerodynamic to get more speed out of the ski. Do you think that could help you out? Thats just my thoughts on it. Just trying to help you guys get more speed and MPH. Have a great day sir and looking forward to the next video.
I love this channel and the Patreon vids
Legend!
Great work guys!
Very well narrated, well done .
😮have you tried sitting as far forward as possible to see if that stops the hop😊 That’s Sic love it 😊
food for thought a 2022 seadoo gtr tops out at around 68 from personal experience however that is bone stock. that speed th v8 gets already is incredible!! keep up the great work!! and id love to see some 0-60 times of that thing!!!
Old seadoo rxp 260 hit an indicated 78mph on the dash.
That’s governed my GTRX 230 hit 71 mph with limit or off and I believe you could get 80 mph with the 300 with tune , intake and impeller upgrade
@@kitchensink7345 I 100% agree with modifications it will go faster there is a noticeable dip in acceleration when it reaches speeds around 65 but if you drop down and gun it again it will jump back up to top speed very quickly. I was giving this data to show how fast that v8 ski is compared to a brand new stock ski. I plan on doing upgrades on it in the future and seeing what it can truly hit.
Great point!
V8 top speed is nothing to sneeze at. To get that number with a 2022 RXTX, you would need to drop another $5K on top of a ski with an MSRP of $19K. Congrats, Bros! They need to put you in the Guinness world records!
Awesome work. 👌
You guys have created a monster
I have a 2000 Kawasaki Ultra 150. Speedometer says it tops out at 86 mph. (I should check it using GPS) Most people who ride it get scared around 60 mph, and slow down. I agree, but i know it smoothes out around 70, so i keep going faster. I'm going to be very impressed if you can get this beast to 90+! Keep up the great work!
I’d like to have a couple v8s in one of those jet boats. That thing sounds amazing!
What’s your target AFR and what timing are you running? Wondering how soft your tune up is. Might be plenty left on the table in regards to power.
If that motor has some form of camshaft it’s going to make peak power well over 6000rpm. Worthwhile going down several impeller sizes and getting your WOT RPM in the mid 6’s.
I remember seeing a guy who put a rotary in one and that is super light and powerful.
+20mph just for the heavenly sound alone!! Hell ya!!
Hot dam! Good job guys!!!🎉🎉
That sounds so damn good !
Sounds amazing!
man that sounds sooooo angry, i love it
Awesome video!!!!!
I think what you guys are doing is awesome you should try An automatic trim like you see on the tiger sharks jetskies
That's fast! amazing work!
It would be fun to see it going up a small river or something, are there any close by?
And if you decide to boost it with a turbo that would be great too!
Thanks, we did take the v8 ski on a trail ride recently. And that video will show up here on Jetskibrothers or our second channel superjetskibros depending on how good the footage turns out 👍🍻
@@JetSkiBrothers Oh man I can't wait to see it!
Cheers!
Nice work Thanks
I haven’t rode a jet ski in years but as someone who owns motorcycles and other fast engine powered toys, I can say a jet ski definitely pulls the hardest out of everything I’ve ever rode. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have an LS motor between your legs 😮
My buddies yz490 is fast, my z900rs is slightly faster, nothing pulls harder than a vmax as far as I know maybe a h2r or something like that, this guy blew past me on a vmax and I was trying to keep up on my 900 and no chance by 3rd gear he was pulling ahead
The scott water jet units are amazing, id hit them up and see if they would sponsor as they will take every bit of HP you can throw at em
One of Finnegans jet boat videos he talks about the curvature of the bottom of the boat and how it moves the water. Put it in the back of a spoon under running water out of your faucet and you see how it changes the direction of the water at the bottom of the spoon. Also turbo that LS and there you go 1fiddy no problem
Awesome! I love all the scientific testing and tuning. Thanks for taking us along for the ride. 85mph is definitely way fast. Can't believe there exist many people who say otherwise!
Glad you enjoyed it!
If you go much faster than 85 you are going to need "Front Side Canards" to keep the nose leveled out. Bouncing, I believe, creates more drag. I just subscribed and it will be interesting to see what you come up with next.
"Well I hope it's easy to fix"... Hahahahaha my favorite part!
I like where you're going with this but are you going to try to make it go faster next year still love to see that
Speed is not subjective. The higher number is faster. It's an interesting log of the things you do but at the end of the day you need more pump that's pretty well it. More power will yield better results as well once you get bigger pump. Hats off to you tho pretty cool sounding ski and you've put allot of effort and time into it. Best of luck
I view it as a hotrod. It sounds awesome, and is a fun build but I don't expect a hotrod to be the fastest thing out there
So cool that you can just pull in and out to get tuned in
It’s a pain in the ass for me just to get mine to water to adjust idle
Lol
That's a mean machine. Sounds insane
Love to see y’all messing around with the pump I have a question tho.. what is your timing at at WOT?? With your setup you should be in the 26-28 degrees timing with 93 octane
I have been trying to keep the tune at the more safe end while going through and testing for the best pump setup. Just to trying to keep the engine going so we can keep testing. Max wot timing we have right now is 25 degrees and 92 octane fuel. I know there is a little more timing we can throw at it but didn't want to go there till the pump setup was optimized.
That thing rips! I've only done 70mph on a jet ski and it feels faster then riding on the road, it's a totally different feel lol
The glorious sound of an open header water cooled V8 never gets old.
Sweet ! Just having something to eat, and I noticed this video ! ...
85 is fast. But I will say that is the best sounding ski I've heard yet. I look forward to seeing that top speed climb.
Sweet ride
That is super cool, I am thinking I need a jet ski.........
I have the Riva stage 3 kit on my 2013 FZS and it rips. 80 to 85 mph. Didn't have to cut up the ski
Very cool ski
85 not bad, I'd like to see 100 but then it would be 110 then 120 and so on. Bottom line is that it's cool and I wish I had one . Love it
I agree, really want to get this to 100+ but we tried to keep a realistic goal for this year since it’s a rebuilding year. 🍻
Curious about the torque curve, cam, etc. I know the ski/pump wants max RPM. Curious if the torque curve peak versus when it starts to decline could impact that. Water is a weird medium and I wonder if your max torque aligns closely to your max rpm on water. Just shooting ideas! Still... awesome project and you're inspiring me to (want to...) work on my XPLs lol.
Thanks, I like what you are saying it’s intelligent and well considered. And you phrased it as a theory. All to say I really do appreciate the suggestion and the way you are saying it.🍻👍 also I’m glad you’re inspired to work on your own stuff that is one of the things that we hope that we convey to the people who watch the videos is to be inspired to work on their own builds
If you only had room for two water jets side by side you could double the amount of water at any rpm. Or even a jet boat pump would be a major improvement. You could extend the hull kind of like a drag bike extended swing arm for more room and stability.
AWESOME!!!!!!
That's it. This sounds amazing I have to do a hemi build. I don't care how slow it'll be.
I had an Ultra 150 that ran 65mph so 85 would be awesome for me! and a V8!! I think the cool factor is better than going faster but I'd like to see you hit 90mph. Bigger pump and more power will bring get it
Keep it up would love to see it break 100mph, personally I've been on a 75mph pwc and I don't have the desire to go any faster on that small of a pwc 😆
so cool man
i watch the skis with the big turbos and they are insane but they have deep pockets and unlimited funds. you guys did this in your back yard with a poor mans budget, hats off to all your work and hope you break 100 in 2023. hull mods might help engine mods wont hurt. like big cams and ported heads. maybe more compression. start a donation for the ski project
No matter what..It sounds bad ass...!!
Great work lads fuck the negative comments you smashed it out of the park 👏 BLUE THUNDER from down under 🇦🇺
Well. This is going to cost me. Having done a CA smog LEGAL LS swap into a Jeep CJ7 I know all too well the work required.............. Great job gents!
