This should have part 2 ❤
People seem to like the video so we will return to it
Totally agreed!! Love this kind of analysis focused around fun and interesting commanders vs good and powerful commanders. Not that there’s anything wrong with creating content on powerful commanders of course, but the fun commanders are starting to be what interests me most!
@@NitpickingNerds please nerds we love you! we want you to cover more of this it gives us new ideas. can you do something that covers dimir fun? i'm trying to make it fun but cant
@@NitpickingNerds the unique commander vid was great too.
@Nitpicking Nerds Yeah you guys did a great job!
I really appreciate the editing decision to keep the commander's name on screen at all times. Cool video! I had considered building a few of these before, but I had never seen an Esix deck and they look really sweet.
Thanks for the feedback!
The “cool” and “unique” deck series is definitely one of my favorites from you two! Along the lines of the Imoti deck, I have always thought and Brinelin/Gilanra deck with Keruga companion would be really cool
Faldorn is an extremely fun deck. Its always doing something and it plays fast.
??
I have my own that's a budget version, and no kidding it's probably one of the best decks ever made
@@zakbrooks7354 do you have a deck list for that deck?
@@littleguy6816 I don't sadly. I can do it later today however
@@zakbrooks7354 thanks
first video of yall’s i’ve watched, and it’s a great one! i’m very new to mtg and have been looking for new commanders that are unique and fun to play, and i’ve written down like over half of these to make decks our of in the future. great vid, can’t wait to check out your other stuff!
Happy to hear you got a lot from this video, hope you enjoy the others too! 😄
Man I've been waiting for an episode like this! Great job nerds cant wait to build all these decks!
Fun fact - whenever you defeat a battle card and flip it over, that will also create a wolf!! Amazing synergy with Faldorn
Generous patron is extreme in an Esix deck, and only 6 of them run it on EDHrec. Floor is divination with politics, clone it once, draw 4, but clone it 4 times and you draw 4x2x5=40 cards... (its also dumb in vorel).
A short about good underrated homes for Generous patrons would be funny, they deserve that for supporting you guys!
I dont get how you get that much card draw, it just adds 2 each time you clone.
Glad people are finally coming around on Obeka builds! I've played hundreds of games with my list and I swear no two wins have ever been the same. If you're building a tokens-style list like Cherries mentioned, remember to run big haymakers and powerful attack triggers that you can abuse over and over again by creating (usually hasted) token copies. I personally run Illharg, Zara, Puppeteer clique, sneak attack, and Feldon to cheat the costs on massive beaters like Scourge of the Throne, Archon of Cruelty, and Lord of the Void
Do you have any ideas to make Obeka as copy and "theft" heavy as possible? I'm thinking like "I'm gonna play your deck... but better" kind of ratty.
Favorite nerds on earth!
Nerds!
good nerds.
My favorite commander is Grist.
I dont even load things up with insects. I just use her as a mill/token engine and .50 cal BMG to threaten people's commanders and load the deck up with as much removal and insect tokens as I can. Basically, being a pest is fun to me and having an insanely resilient commander is even better.
Can u post ur deck bro I wanna absolutely annoy my opponents lmfao
I'm so glad you show me Kardur's potential. It's soooooo fun. First i build a deck around him as a commander, but it's the "forever 2nd". He is now one of the 99 in my Licia Mardu Aristocrats. Always glad when i draw him. The most time it is enough to get his "goad trigger" once. Thx again ❤
This was cool! Maybe you could do something like a 'Unique ways to build common commanders' video or something like that? For something a little different but in the same vein
I'd say in my playgroup everyone really enjoys my gishath deck. It's very hype when I get to reveal the top 7 cards to see what threats I get to put for free.
Thank you for that. With my wife, we are discovering MTG (yes, 30 years after!) and we REALLY love it. We are into boardgames but since we've discovered MTG, we don't play anything else. So far I bought Warhammer Ruinous Powers, Party time, Zombie deck, and Mishra. All are super fun to play (least being party time IMO). I'll definitely enjoy your video looking at what could be our next addition to the pool of commander decks we have.
Sylvan Offering only creates 1 token when Esix triggers because the X/X treefolk resolves first.
I cannot for the life of me get my faldorn deck to show up. I appreciate the segment!
Just got back into commander (and the nerds) and this is just the video I needed
So early I don't have the time stamps! Thank you two for the content!
Great video!! More like this plz!!
Hey fellas ive been busy lately good to see you guys doing cool commander deck techs
Yep never seen any videos with these commanders
Good stuff fellas
I have an Ezuri, Claw of Progress deck with Esix in it. Had Esix out, and Finale of Devastation tutored for Cultivator of Blades, making 2 more Cultivator of Blades from Esix, and 4 more tokens for the win. Was my favorite win of all time.
I love when you two have more positive videos like this.
Havent stopped by in a while, looks like your guys dedication is paying off, look at your views! Very cool
Great video! Love topics like these
Us too!
I’ll be excited to see your obeka list once it’s done. We built her literally this week. Hellkite courser was a really early cut for us. It doesn’t make too much sense to pay 6 mana to play a 4 drop commander. After watching y’all talk about it, I’m starting to rethink it tho. Maybe it’s worth it, if your cheating it out
Well you play it to replay Obeka cuz she dies a lot ☺️
Just made a imoti keruga deck a few weeks ago. Fun card is Mnemonic deluge, which casts an instant or sorcery from a graveyard 3 times. So you cascade from the 9 mana spell plus 3 more times when you chose a 6+ mana spell!
Castcade doesn’t trigger with copies FYI
@Ice Cold I think mnemonic deluge is special because it says you may cast the copies. And since cascade is a cast trigger it will happen.
If it was like reverberate or fork then it won't cascade.
@@isaacallsup9635 yes you are casting copies, not spells. Two different things. If copies were spells then storm would be infinite by itself
@Ice Cold storm copies are put directly on the stack and are not cast. Which is why they don't go infinite.
Meanwhile the mnemonic copies are casted.
The Quandrix precon was the first commander deck. It has been fundamental in shaping how i like to build decks. I have taken almost every legend from that precon and built a deck around each one. Dekah is pretty sick too
Outside of multiple removal spells, you will have a hard time removing Obeka on its controllers turn. Anytime it would be targeted you can just end the turn and remove the spell from the stack.
Imoti Keruga is my absolute favorite commander deck I have. It's my bling out deck, way to expensive, but so much fun.
Esix got me back into MTG. Super fun creatures to copy are creatures similar to "Risen Reef" where they see creature types and themselves. 5 Risen Reefs entering in at the same time is drawing 20 cards and placing all lands on the battlefield you run into lol. My deck name is "Exponential Esix" 😅
I love that you love Companions!
Esix is so fun to play. You get blown out a lot, but sometimes you get to cast Avenger of Zendikar with a token doubler in play, making an unnecessarily over-the-top board state.
Ive done that but with a 10/10 eldrazi token on the field. Needless to say I won that game
Put it in my dragon deck so instead of just making a 6/6 red dragon, I make copies of Utvara Hellkite and snowball from there.
Mind you, not physical or on MTGA but I've got an Esix landfall deck i've played against some friends in TTS.
Avenger of Zendikar, Life and Limb, Awaken the Woods, Scute Swarm
Dark Depths is also a copy option since the copy would have no ice counters.
Scapeshift some of the land creatures into utility lands, sac lands, or just basic lands to have some graveyard lands that can be played, etc.
Blade of Selves, Fractal Harness, Paradox Zone
Add to it the usual Esix thing of going "You've got a pretty good creature on the board... I'll make a token copy of it."
@@jkcv_ncrewJames? That you?? Lol
Lol I bought the Faldorn precon because of you guys and I was playtesting Dance with Calamity while watching the video and then you mentioned it! 😂
Obeka is a ton of fun, it's my favorite deck because if you don't play the extra turns you win differently every time and she feels less threatening to the opponents who won't remove her on cooldown.
I built it with a good balance of 3 strategies: reanimator, token copies and playing opponents' cards.
Besides the absolute value engine that can run away with games (or make the other players kill you if you pull the trigger a little too early) it can also be very explosive, when everyone's at a kinda low life total, you reanimate a big creature, copy a buch of time and swoop in for the win.
I love my Niv Mozzet deck. I added all 5 of the experience commanders, all the gates and gate wincoins like 9-fingers, amd use land enchants for ramp. Fun
*Arcades the Strategist to me is the most fun and diffy deck*
A friend of mine went off with an unanswered Karametra, God of Harvests in his Arcades deck, played a bunch of essentially free walls and ramped past everyone else. Arcades is no joke :)
@@Red_Mag3 he is amazing if you sleep on him while he is out it can be hectic.. I made my deck all foil it's my most expensive deck
With the Obeka deck, all those "next end step" doesn't go away, so even if you end your turn the next end step is the next player's end step.
Imoti, Celebrant of BONUNTY? Little typo in your screen formatting...
BONUNTY
Man I was hoping ratadtabik was going to make it on here. Making 2/2 copies of crazy legendaries is so fun.
It’s definitely super fun! Part 2? 👀
I've been having some fun on arena using ratadrabik + luxior, giada's gift to make nonlegendary 2/2 black zombie token copies of planeswalkers. mostly kaya geist hunter to double token generation. lol. if you can get one on 2 loyalty, you can -2 to double token generation, sacrificing it in the process, then -2 both of the new copies to get 8x token generation for the turn.
@@jigstraw2809 that’s disgustingly janky and I want to try it 😂
@@bencarlson2547 lol i tried a different brew of just copying mondrak with ratadrabik and making dollhouse of horrors tokens of dumb stuff. fun fact, if you make 32 devilish valets at once, the game forces a draw because it doesn't wanna resolve that many triggers... 'cause it's making 32 32/32s and then doubling all their power 31 times with 31 separate triggers on all 32 of them. it's pretty nuts, even with just 4 they all enter and become 32/4's. the most i could do without the game saying no was 16, and they all went to like 500k power. xD
I have an imoti landfall/lands matters deck and it’s sooo fun to play. Casting all the big cmc spells like apex devastator, rampaging baloths, cultivator colossus and then cascading into my smaller spells which are mostly ramp or things like scute swarm
I wish you had linked these decklists in the description
For anyone wondering the chance of getting to draw 10 off Niv-Mizzet Reborn if you have 39 lands and 6 cards for each pair is: (60/99)×(54/99)×(48/99)×(42/99)×(36/99)×(30/99)×(24/99)×(18/99)×(12/99)×(6/99)≈01/412170
In other words you need to resolve the card almost half a million times. (Obviously tutors, fetchlands etc. mess this up a bit, but it usually won't be by that much). The likelihood is at a point where while any given individual person should never expect to see this happen, it probably has and does occasionally happen.
I already have the Keruga/Imoti deck and it's my favourite deck to play. It really is so fun.
I don't play the sky turtle, tanuki, or beanstalk giant though cause they do nothing as a creature. Just play a better 3 drop instead. All the big guys have impactful ETB or cast triggers so you end up getting so much value.
Love the Rodrick Strong mention
Are there deck lists for these? Also, I see a Ghalta budget deck in your moxfield, do you have a video for that?
LETTTS GOOO best daily vids
I used to play a Pramikon Monarch list online which was a lot of fun. Keep sending your opponents the other way with blink effects :^)
Been rockin' the Imoti/Keruga (Snake Savior & Hippo Princess) deck for years. It's wildly fun, but the turns can take forever when it goes off.
I mentioned this before but what do you guys think about companions that require you to play say 20 basics? Make one for each color and maybe even a colorless one and give then a small effect (maybe some upkeep trigger or something like getting the monarchy) fitting the color.
23:10 hmmm as far as I can understand you can also get around it with Encore as well, we just had a heated argument about this 2 days ago...
Esix is obviously good with those big splashy token generators, but note that you can also use it with things that make food or clues or whatever and have them come in as your or your opponents best creatures. There are some ways to reliably make non creature tokens every turn for when you don't have hornet queen in hand.
Queen Marchesa is actually a really fun group slug commander which is the route I took with my deck
Wow, Esix, Fractal Bloom has so many win possibilities. The one with Craterhoof Behemoth is insane. What about adding Parallel Lives? Thank you for the video Nitpicking Nerds.
No prob!
I have on Obeka deck and I love using treason spells with it. I know the deck is anything that strong, but I find it fun just having the ability to steal any permanent with cards like dominous of fealty.
Just built a kardur deck. It's been so fun
I literally just made the imoti karuga companion deck last month! I wanted to make a fun deck out of my simic bulk and it is indeed absolutely goofy fun!
I've had that deck for a while now and it just vomits permanents(mostly creatures) on the battlefield. It's too good for my casual games. Walker of the grove is great in the deck. What it does is mostly irrelevant. It cascades for 8!
@@eduardlohmann5800 I can totally see it getting gross if you put money in it. Mine is fairly budget but it can still absolutely snowball out of control of left unchecked. I think if I pumped any amount of money in it I’d have to play it a good bit less.
I've been working on putting together a list for the two of them because it just looks like big, dumb explosive fun!
I would love a faldorn precon update video :)
Sound like they should've done one of thosr already
Having built four of these, I can definitely agree that Obeka is a ton of fun. However, the extra turn cards are a trap. In fact, I've killed another player running Obeka by removing Obeka before the new turn began, when they didn't have a way to replay Obeka and give her haste. My favorite ways to play involve keeping hasty tokens and reanimated creatures beyond their "beginning of the next end step" expiration date. And my favorite play ever with her was when a player cast overloaded Cyclonic Rift during a different player's turn - I asked the active player if they would like to end the turn, and CycRift was exiled without resolving.
I’m not sure if Nimble Obstructionist works in Obeka the way you would want it to, because it says to counter an ability “you don’t control”. Great video as always ofc love the nerds
I put Dance of Calamity in my Ovika deck. Now that’s a party
I love Svella. Snow creatures are so cool.
This is just a like of cards I've either built, thought about building or am just always jamming into decks.
You know what deck I love which I found super surprising? Ruxa. He likes basic cards, you can build a Ruxa deck for like, $15, and I don't have to think much when playing him. Great for just wanting to chill but still play with friends. He's just for fun, and he's also a great deck to give to a new player looking to learn. Plus, amazingly, his win rate is crazy good (at least for me). Don't underestimate Ruxa and his forest friends!
Is there a deck list for these decks?
You know this is going to be a great video when I know I find almost none of these any fun. You do you guys, you do you. :D I love this game.
Queen marchesa is my all time favorite commander!
Imoti was the first deck i ever build... And it still is my favorite. It's just fun to cascade
Sylvia’s offering will make 1 token which you can make copy any creature. But the 1/1s will be a second instance of token creation and will just be 1/1s
The shield source promo had me cracking up "they're sleeves"
Yes sadly they are not shields 🙃
Need that Obeka decklist!
Im just now.getting back onto.Mtg.and learning commander for the first time..i.havent played Mtg since 2003...
I have a fun General Ferrous Rokirik so I’m deciding to make some other “Multicolor matters” commanders to really use all the two color spells instead of making a two color deck and then just putting the best of both colors in the deck
Niv Mizzet Reborn is my #1 commander,my deck is 36 lands, 6 utility artifacts ( tome of the guildepact and urzas filter being MVP's) and between 5 and 6 of each guild.
Obeka using Isochron Scepter imprinting Final Fortune = win.
Purple Joe Cherries is so cute !
aethersnipe with imoti makes it to were you can constantly cascade for a consist rate of 1UU because it bounces itself with the evoke trigger on the stack. cards sooooooo good actually lol
Feels good having 2 of my 6 commander decks on the list. Apparently i have good taste lmao
(Imoti with keruga and obeka, though i am having a super hard time getting obeka right..)
is there a deck list link for Obeka i can see ?
I'm working on a 5 color Omnath deck with triple pip tribal. So far it's pretty fun
Only ever played kitchen table magic with friends when I was younger. Recently got back into it with my girlfriend playing a lot of 1v1. Thinking about getting into commander
Having built Obeka from day 1, I finally retired her due to the repetition, feel bad moments, and lengthy "extra" turns it creates. It really is a cool idea, but it becomes such a target and reliant on her own abilities.
Guys in the comments, what are your most fun Commanders?
For me it's Minn, Wily Illusionist. Took me totally by suprise, but is the Deck I played by far the most in the last months. Even if your Illusions die, you get something out of it, mostly free ramp. And because you need to leave mana open to draw in your enemies turns you can also play a lot of interaction.
Roddy coming out to Killswitch Engage was dope
"You can't loss your monach in combat when played Kandur" ... well challenge accepted :)
1. If all your opponent goad the others creatures they are gonna attack you.
2. If an opponent have a creature with myriad or plays one with haste.
3. If the opponents have attack tax like propaganda (not 100% sure on this one though)
I run Esix in my Xyris deck and it is nuts. I just one a game by making 21 witty roastmasters off a wheel. It was awesome.
I'm sorry but that doesn't work :( xyris creates only one token at a time, you could only copy roast master once
Svella!!! yes, just built this deck. I have 35 five drops or higher in the deck.
Sadly I don't think essix works with Sylvan offering. It makes the singular x/x and THEN makes x 1/1s. So you only get one copy
Great point! That is sad
Playing a Grismold deck is like when you want a deck that can meld tinkering aristocrat value with explosive mono red-like turns
Vorinclex Raider... playing a green planeswalker and ultimating immediately is AWESOME!
I have that deck, it’s been pretty good! -Beezy
@@NitpickingNerds I'm like you guys, I could throw in auto-wins but go for fun instead. Got Ravenous Gigantotherium in it lol
I got the Faldorn precon on release, I didn’t think I would like it (never played prosper), but accidentally fell in love with the play style. Now I won’t play EDH, unless I get a game in with “The Wolves”
does nimble obstructionist work with the delayed trigger of cards like warrior's oath? it says triggers you dont control wouldnt that lose the game trigger be a trigger you own?
It does! :)
I would love you make an Imoti keruga decktech! Seems fun but with the limitation that makes it quirky to build
Anyone can't get through the day without their normal 3 minute intro i just love it
Indomitable Creativity is insane in svella
7:45 I’d argue that Pathbreaker Ibex is FAR better than craterhoof to make a bunch of copies of, because it directly scales. Let’s say you copy one just 4 times on an empty field with Esix, the first pathbreaker gives +4/+4 for the esix, next is 8/8, then 16, and 32. You end up with a 64/64 esix with trample, and that’s just 4 token copies of the pathbreaker.
This may or may not have convinced me to shift my Propser deck to Faldhorn… In favor of a board state!!
Can you link the lists for these decks?
