I knew already that fast compression can cause distortion in low frequencies but, hey, I have two comments: -I never verified it by compressing a pure wave and looking at the result. Good idea and very illustrative! That is a kind of seal of your channel, showing this kind of things. -I didn’t know or didn’t see the possibility that this could be used as effect. Great technique! Thank you for your videos.
Only slightly off topic, it needs to be understood more widely that all compressors possess the ability to cause this type of distortion when not set properly. I hear this all the time in home mixes and self-mastered demos and see too little mention and explanation. Thanks for addressing this, Lane.
@@artysanmobile ha yes I guess you can also ruin a track if you use this without it needing it. The video was meant to show this as a desirable effect though 😉.
@@LanewoodStudios I realize that. Is it inappropriate to offer a strongly related comment that might help someone? Honest question. If so, I’m truly sorry. I will remove it if you tell me to.
@@artysanmobile no no it’s fine and you’re right of course, that you can also ruin tracks with this. Just meant to add that the video is about how to get this effect intentionally if that was not clear to other readers. All good, and thanks for watching and commenting.
Yeah it's more clearly audible on the bass as real distortion, but on the Vocal you can hear that it's a bit more edgy and 'sharp' for lack of a better word. Maybe you can hear it that way.
Did you know about this technique already? Are you using it in a different way perhaps? Let us know :).

@@LanewoodStudios I understand and will keep in mind next time that such a comment might serve as a distraction. Thank you, Lane.
Nice love it , is Cubase's Vintage Compressor plugin similar to the 1176 ?
I believe so. Not sure if it is as quick as a real 1176 but give it a try!
I find it difficult to hear any difference on the vocals
