Recycling An ECM - The Guts You Won't Believe What Was Inside! (unless you guess a circuit board)

- Scrapping out some ECMs from what I believe were older Ford Crown Victorias. Not much more to it than that. Some scrap aluminum, gold, little bit of copper, somewhere in there. I believe these were from the Police Interceptors from that era. I picked them up at the auction with a bunch of stuff for those cars.

For me, Half of the fun is tearing things apart just to see what is inside. Keep it up.
Thanks, I will!. Yes, it's usually curiosity that drives me with this sort of thing.
Thanks for the shout out man. We have lots of dinosaur tracks, fossils, waterfalls, fishing and hunting in the area. I just spent two days with the paleontologist in the area doing some field studies with them.
No worries, buddy. That was a cool discovery, and I will need to talk to those paleontologists, if possible. I'm trying to find a safe way to get a mold of a print. I don't want to damage anything and they probably have 3D scans. I tried Tumbler and nobody ever gets back to me.
@HHRecycling I might have a solution for you. I asked them about that too and I'm looking at getting a extremely soft rubber apoxy type solution that I can make a mold with. The paleontologist said as long as it doesn't damage or leave a residue it should be okay and if it's used on something fairly small.
Right on. I want to melt some of the copper, brass, and aluminium I recycle into local dino footprints for the museum.
You never know what it is until you try it out the first time. Good effort Chris and thanks for sharing.
That's Right, That's Right! Gotta try it at least once. Thanks, buddy.
I was thinking i needed to wear safety glasses to watch the video. I sit through this because I'm capable of destroying stuff like that.
Thanks.
@@brycewiborg8095 hahaha, thank you, Bryce. I bet you can get some great auction deals where you are. I love auction scrap. That's where these came from.
Thank you for the mention brother and thank you for doing this it shows that the transmission brain is not worth cleaning just sell as dirty aluminum keep your eyes open for the main brain those are worth the effort keep making enjoyable video six stars brother
Oh that's good to know!
@@josephcormier5974 what is the main brain called? I thought this was it.
@@HHRecycling no that's a ECM that controls the fuel and transmission I believe I can take a picture of the one I did and I believe I still have one more that I can do a video on just let me know what you want
@@josephcormier5974 I'd watch a video if you did one.
🤙🤙👍 why it always handy to have an excavator around, makes tearing them apart easier 🤔🤣✌️
Haha, I should do a video on it.
Thanks for showing us so we don’t have too
@@nicejunk666 that's funny. I was thinking of doing a series of junk called I scrapped it so you don't have to.
@@HHRecycling great idea run with it
Good video my friend! It’s not hard watching this.
@@EricScrapping4Dinidog thank you! I appreciate that.
@@HHRecycling No problem. Thank You for making these videos
On that thought i knew a guy who shorted out a ecm while trying to wire in a ham radio. Nearly as cool as connecting a arc welder to a cb radio.
@@brycewiborg8095 I've heard of them shorting out from people welding on the frame with the battery still hooked up but never from installing something like a radio. That's an expensive mistake.
Damn I wouldn't have thought it would be hard to get the board out. Not very populated. Probably still a high peripheral board. Nice
Beat down 😂😂
Yeah, but to send high peripheral from Canada is kind of iffy whether it's worth it or not. lol I'll probably end up cutting the chips off. Thanks, I like getting my frustration out on scrap. Or my leg, if I'm not careful.
@HHRecycling lol no you can't be like nice jerk and take it out on your leg. That might smart a little lol.
It didn’t wanna come out of that box did it making you work for it! I still don’t know much about e waste I still throw it in the shred lol it all adds up buddy great video my friend!
I don't throw any of it in the shred, buddy. Some of it's way too valuable. Look at that chip I got in the last video. One chip was worth $3.52. Imagine having a couple pounds of those.
@@HHRecycling I seen that chip you got it looked like a good chip! if I could learn it I would but to confusing for me buddy
Please be careful when prying… always have the right safety appliances…. Yes, I said appliances. Do not scrap them!
💯😎💯
All appliances get scrapped, Kev. You should know that by now. Call them safety tools or instruments. They're safe then.😜😂
Wasn't too bad a board, good chips on the back at least 🙃
Yeah, I just don't know if they will take it with the silicone coating on it.
@@HHRecycling well it all gets shredded anyway so I don't see the difference to all the other junk really, as long as they accout for the correct weight. Like you say, Mike might know lol
@SollersScrappingandDiving that's true. Maybe he doesn't want to tell me, though.
Awesome asmr video lol
@@nicejunk666 I know how much you love them.
Just waiting for the board to ping up and smash the camera 😂
Like my videos, all goes well until we switch it to record 😂😂
Still love it 👍
@@ecoscrapper3501 you know what the struggle is like.
I thought i saw a couple of gold band oscillators by the chip where your screwdriver was but not sure
I just checked and there are none on there. You're probably looking at the stuff I said was visible gold, but I don't think it is. Two silver coloured rectangles with gold colour on the edge but they are flush with the board. It's got a lot of those on it
Yeah, i thought those were gbo's, but you say they are flush to the board, after looking again they do appear to be embedded(?)in theboard. Wonder why they make stuff so impossible to seperate, you'd think that in the long run@@HHRecyclingmanufacturer's would somehow advocate to recycle materials so as to serve as a recoverable source
Of course ,im referring to just getting the board freed from it's module or whatever you call it, must be like a black box or something from a plane, damn near indestructible!
@@DanielHouston-uw3ir yeah, you would think so, but then the corporations making the parts would be losing money. Fast and cheap, they probably own the mining companies too.
I'll take a closer picture and put it in a community post for you.
@@DanielHouston-uw3ir yeah, I think that because they are outside in the elements, they have to be completely sealed and impenetrable. Joseph said he had ones with screws though, so it can obviously be done.
1st woot woot bet that won’t happen again!
You're my HERO!
Quit horsing around and pull that board out 😂
Soon, buddy. Soon.
@@HHRecycling I’ve done one of those, my experience with it was the same as yours. lol
It's nice to have friends to suffer alongside. 🤣
@@HHRecycling true 🤣
Your yard calls that dirty cause of a little glue?
I'm not too sure, but I would call it dirty.
@@HHRecycling mine doesn’t fuss over that unless it’s big globs of glue, at least with cast or old sheet. With extruded, they want it completely clean
I'll ask if I take it in.
I'm dealing with similar. I have a control board from a frymaster pasta cooker. Could be worth a lot to the right person. Trying to decide if it's worth the effort to make an ebay listing. Maybe your mechanic is wrong, what does ebay say about it for reference?
I didn't see them on eBay, not much about them at all except to say they are from a 99-2010 Crown Victoria. The problem is testing them and finding someone to buy them. Nobody here has a Crown Vic.
@@HHRecycling So I used the ebay app and a few things were a pain but mostly was pretty easy. Only took a couple minutes. It will relist it two more times. Fingers crossed it may find a buyer.
If the price is right people are willing to take a chance and buy something as 'parts only' and take the chance it may work if condition looks good.
It's a good time to sell repair parts and the economy is pretty trashed right now so people can't buy new.
@@Nas_Atlas I have tried to sell a few things. One took me about 4 hours to prepare to sell, and haul to the post office. It cost me $102 to ship and eBay didn't release the funds for 2 weeks. Luckily the guy accepted it, or I would have been out the shipping. Then they took $48 of the $175 I sold it for. I won't bother with that again. I'll just keep it here and put it on marketplace. Different in cities, for sure, but up here things are mostly scrap. Nobody wants to pay the shipping.
