No problem! For this year, we are going to make a special barrel stove customized for evaporating sap. We’ll do a video on it, and we hope we’ll get a lot more syrup this year!
I enjoyed every minute of that...thanks. I just bought a half gallon of CANADIAN Maple Syrup....thank you Canada. My Mom was born in Morse. Sask.....I am so proud of that. I get my syrup from Amazon. Merry Ann from Minnesota
Merry Ann Mac that is awesome and thanks for the great comment! I know Maine and Vermont are big into the sugaring too and 76% of all Maple Syrup is made in Canada and over 80% of that is made in Quebec, so it’s the French Canadians that are the real experts of the craft.
We did our first bit on the wood stove but it took to long. Inside of you’re doing a big boil down you can get sticker steam everywhere. When I’m doing a smaller amount that I need to watch carefully, I do the last bit of boiling indoors. The BBQ is good too.
Thanks, ya it works! We’ve gone to a barrel stove evaporator set up that we made and we have a video up here on its construction. It’s more efficient than this but honestly, this was some of the best tasting syrup because of the infused smoky flavour after filtering the ash out.
It definitely is. For this sugaring season, I’m going to custom make a barrel stove so that the pans fit right into the top of it and we’ll speed things up a lot.
It's always great seeing a family together doing neat things outdoors. Your backyard river is the best backyard I have ever seen, and this is coming from someone who had a backyard creek while growing up that everyone was jealous of (which my Mom still has). Your backyard is absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing this video, and I look forward to more.
It's that time of year. I watched for Canadian CZcamsrs boiling sap today..good stuff. Tori looks like she has some mean outdoors skills. Good mate to have. Godspeed.
Steve Ferrell ya she’s pretty awesome and isn’t scared of hard work. The maple sugaring thing is pretty big in a good portion of Canada and you can buy everything you need to for the process at the local hardware store.
Look at Tori swinging that ax like a pro... awesome! When you said wood stove, my first thought was that you wouldn't get enough heat to boil... you figured it out. I guess that the Canada juice is the reward for all the hard work it takes to get a little jar of the goodness. TFS
Triumph Screen Printing it is a lot of work for only a little Syrup but it’s so fun to do. Tori is defining food with the axe. We hand split 23 face cords this past fall and she did a ton of splitting.
What an awesome backdrop to have while doing all of your outdoor activities! Sap didn't run too much this year in central Maine. I remember my mother pouring hot maple syrup over clean snow to make a yummy instant maple candy. Really enjoy watching your adventures!
Jane Doe to bad it was s bad year there. This year has been a little late for sure. I love that maple toffee in snow.....it’s a big thing in Quebec particularly
I love that your doing videos here! I hope the other paid gigs keep you in the woods and doing this. You should get with Zach Fowler and do a collaboration! Just my thought
Ty Fannin I should actually, I char with Zach fairly regularly and what he’s doing with his channel is pretty awesome. My wife and I figured, why not start filming the stuff we do around here. It’s kind of a behind the scenes / our day to day lives when I’m not on one of my big trips.
@@JimBairdAdventurer and that type of stuff is perfect to fill in when not tripping and to also make it easier on you if its stuff you're already doing around home. I love that stuff. Zach is making some great videos (some are over produced though) but he's great, great skills, and funny. I admit I watch far too much CZcams.
@@thisoneworks ya, his channel has been doing really well. I like filming this kind of stuff too. It's nearly impossible to make a video every week on extream expeditions too so this way I'll be able to get out more interesting vids and it seems the response has been good.
Tim Crusham I think so, and now that the snow has melted away from the bases of the trees some, the deer are feeding on whatever greenery they can find there.
Thanks a lot, glad you liked it. We’re finding this a lot of fun and rewarding too. We need to find a way to increase our output and boiling because we have son much sap!
Great project
thanks my man
Nice
Tori at the end was hilarious!!!
Haha, ya she’s funny 😄
interesting,,,,,,was great to see this,,,,,,how its made,,,

Really enjoying the maple syrup series!
good stuff do mine on the wood stove inside takes a while but very satisfying beautiful family thanks Jim

Wow, I know that must taste wonderful. And as the C+ man, Phil Robertson said, find your river. And you have. God bless...
Indeed I have. Thanks a lot and yes, the maple syrup is amazing
Definitely trying this out.

Definitely earned that sweet stuff....gotta be fulfilling!

Nice view of the river from your decks!
Todd Anderson thanks Tom. I never get board looking at it.
Nice one buddy. Enjoy the fruits of your labour.
John Ord- Outdoor Lad. Will do!! Thanks...just did another bug boil off today
thanks a lot and I will. Got about a Litre from a boil off today.
I just think that smoky flavour tops it off real good, great work
Nice job. You guys work well together. Awesome couple you make.
Terlor Skitch thanks a lot!! We do make a pretty good team.
Would love to have your backyard views. Nice video.
Thanks! ya, we love it

Thanks so much! It’s our little slice of heaven. We’ve had a couple other big boil offs since then and have gotten a lot more syrup too.

What a great experience. Got a sugar high just from watching.. Tori is sure well practice with the ax Thanks Brian 78
Brian Spencer no problem, ya Tori is good for sure. She chopped a lot of wood this past fall and has gotten pretty pro at it.
“Smile at the end.” Lol! I smiled at the end when you were having wine with your pancakes!
Scott Out-n-About yup, pancakes for dinner to celebrate a successful boil off .
Look at Tori swinging that ax like a pro... awesome!

Definitely wine goes with pancakes ♡ hard work paid off! Yummmmm
yup, we had pancakes for dinner in celebration. Not sure I've had them with wine before but whatever, haha
Awesome, very envious, wish I lived up north. I’ve fished the Magnetawan system on Portage Lake. We flew in via Tornado’s. God’s country my friend.
Derek Rivers nice, that’s not to fat down river from me. I’ve paddled all the way to the Georgian Bay several times. I love this river.

Jim you got good wife she gets after it.
The Deere can smell your maple syrup cooking.
Tim Crusham I think so, and now that the snow has melted away from the bases of the trees some, the deer are feeding on whatever greenery they can find there.
It's not as sticky as honey right...but is it as sweet as honey
Ya, not as thick as honey and tastes different obviously but very sweet and delicious!
very interesting , loved the video wish I had some maples around my yard to do the same
Thanks a lot, glad you liked it. We’re finding this a lot of fun and rewarding too. We need to find a way to increase our output and boiling because we have son much sap!
What river was that?
finpainter1 we live on the Magnetawan
Wine with pancakes is brilliant. My wife will love this. Lol
Ty Fannin haha, ya we had pancakes for dinner
I love me some pure maple syrup on my sourdough pancakes!
👍👍🤠🤓👶
Getting to be this time again!
