As a Chicago guy - I was always a goalie and I always thought those Atlanta Flames uniforms were great looking especially the white ones. Back in the day when the White Jerseys were the home as it makes more sense.
I find it amazing the number of game tapes from WTAF from this era that have survived. Gene Hart and Don Earle a big part of discovering sports as a kid along with Harry Kalas and Rich Ashburn with the Phillies. Thanks for posting this!!
Hockey was so much better back then in the 70s and in the early 80s until the New Jersey Devils instituted the trap. That was the end of hockey as we knew it. It’s literally impossible to watch today.
I always remember 5:40 of OT when Dave Schultz broke my heart on the end I was sitting. Forgot how close Keith McCreary has come just before the game winner.
I honestly don't think anyone could score a goal like Schultz's OT winner in today's NHL. With the butterfly and goalies that look like the Michelin man, there isn't room to score goals like that anymore.
I'm so glad the NHL keeps the puck moving now. Defenseman: "Oh, guy coming at me... I'll pin the puck to the boards and get a face off." Man did that slow the game down. Having said that, I guess it's one of the reasons the Superstars played longer shifts without sitting.
These were 2 teams with a lot of tough and skilled players who really hated each other. Great stuff! Although Philly always won, Atlanta gave them a hard time! Imagine that, Dave Schultz scoring the winning goal....who would have believed it!
You can make a strong case for the Flyers' run to the cup semi finals the year before as the team that built the foundation and this was the team that put it over the top.
@@joycenkenes ya, goalies actually had to make saves back then. They couldn't just stand there, be big and fill 95% of the net. Bernie Parent was easily the best goalie in the world in the 2 years that the Flyers won those Stanley Cups.
I don't care that Atlanta can't keep a team - but those Atlanta Flames Jerseys and Logo were among the best looking in hockey history.!!!
I always loved those old Atlanta jerseys with the flaming “A”. For a team that wasn’t that bad, it was sad when they left Atlanta for Calgary.
Excellent logo and uniforms. They had some talent too but playoffs were a disaster.
it was sad when they left a city that doesnt give a shit about hockey for one that's crazy about it?
@@jemimallah2591
Is that why the Thrashers also left Atlanta in 2011?
Flames were my favorite team in the 70s
The 1973-74 season was the Atlanta Flames' second season of existence, and here they were in the playoffs.

0:20 Susan Bennett, wife of Flames forward, Curt Bennett, and future voice of "Siri"....

I am a life long Flyers fan, but Bill Barber could dive so well he should have been in the Olympics. Check out his swan dive at 4:23

They said it was a sellout. But look at the place it looks half empty.
What a great video . Go Flyers
Ahhhh! Theeee Golden Era! Wen the Whistle DID NOT Blow every 12 seconds! A MUCH NICER time Indeed! God Bless 😊😊😊

Referee Wally Harris recently passed away.
imagine having Dan Bouchard and you start Phil Myre?
Odd cuz the flyers typically only wore the names on their jerseys during nationally televised games that year.
Anybody remember the theme song at the beginning of the mid-70's TV broadcast? "Always There" by Ronnie Laws.
Cheryl Ladd!
The team that built hockey in Philadelphia

Man I miss hockey. I swear watching this game u feel like a brawl is gonna start any minute. The game SUCKS now I refuse to even watch it
I'm watching this game and I can't think of one good reason why a hockey player needs to wear a helmet.
the goalies are so cool

@@pocobull I totaly agree on Bernie!!
I would suggest Googling Bill Masterson.

The Flyers should wear these Red Jerseys, with their names printed on White Stripes, if they were to have a retro night.
They do wear those uniforms but they are a lighter shade of orange than the glory days.
@@GetBenched2010
Back in their glory days, during the mid 70's, those Road Jerseys looked a lot more Red than they did Orange.
Calgary was a tough opponent in the 70s.
yes, tough to find.
There was no Calgary in the NHL in the 70s
Is this the night where Fred Shero got jumped by an angry mob after the game?
Why all the empty seats if the game was sold out?
Scalpers didn´t get to sell all there tickets I guess so a lot over..
Atlanta had a losing record and the fewest points of all the playoff clubs that year.
everyone looks flatfooted
