  • Malia is town on north coast of Crete 34 km eastern from Heraklion. Town is situated on fertile plain with Selena Mountains in background.
    Malia used to be small coastal village but after expansion of tourism in the 20th century it became together with neighbourhoods Hersonissos and Stalida the most frequent touristic destination on Crete.
    Nowadays, there is large amount of accomodation capacities as well as various shops, restaurants and countless bars and discos. The location is popular for its busy nightlife.
    The place of Malia is considered as the first inhabitated area on Crete. The archeological excavations of the 3rd largest Minoan palace are 3 km eastern from centre of Malia.
    The 5 km long coastal line of Malia is formed by several diverse beaches with the sea port in eastern part. The small island with Church of Transfiguration lies in crystal clear sea just opposite of the Malia beach.
