“96 Degrees in the Shade” is a dramatic and musically powerful retelling of the events of the October 1865 Morant Bay Rebellion, led by African Jamaican Baptist deacon and preacher Paul Bogle who led a protest against the British colonizers and oppressors in Jamaica in the town of Morant Bay. Bogle was captured by British government troops, tried and convicted by British authorities and hanged on 24 October 1865 in the Morant Bay court house. Bogle is now one of Jamaica's seven National heroes.
This is a fantastic Reggae group I watched live on stage as a student at the university of Benin ,Benin city Nigeria in 1982.IT was a very exciting moment for everyone particularly when 96 degrees in the shade was played there was electricity of excitement in the hall. I watched them live on two different day. One love.

I first heard that song covered by a polish band years ago, then I came across it the other day and I have to listen to it at least once a day, especially this version. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever, the story behind it is so sad. I wish people knew how beautiful Reggae in every form is. ♥️

These guys played Cafe Tomo, Arcata CA, circa 1999. They needed a ride from airport. My boss picked them up and we hung all night with them. Righteous brethren
The way he connected to their souls at the end when he raised his hand he was like a conductor in the entire crowd saying 96° in the shade on exact queue with his hand motions. Pretty amazing!
@@purpleldv966 Awesome! Bunny was wearing all white, kind of a chill island outfit, white linen pants and shirt, and a puffy white beret backwards. Cat wore sunglasses and a classic rasta beanie with gnarly dreadlocks. Drummer was rocking a red yellow and green shirt, like the Jamaican flag. It was such an epic performance to witness. Best thing I've ever seen.

It's about the Morant Bay Rebellion in Jamaica in 1865. You can look it up and read about it.
His name was Paul Bogle. He's a national hero of Jamaica now. You can Google his name and read about him and what this song is about.
