“Because anyone else would’ve been electrocuted or blown up by one of my traps. Hehehehehe.”
loved that bit
Iconic
She sounded like Siri
The fact that Bill actually wrote the "Hehehehe" out is hilarious. In part because I heard it in Nick Offerman's girly giggle as Ron on "Parks and Rec."
Gave me heavy ron swanson vibes 😂
Bill knew how to survive. Frank knew how to live.
Completely, love that.
Perfectly stated, beautiful episode.
Yeah. But it would have been empty unless they both knew how to die.
Yeah sure. Bahaha take that to Hallmark fam
Yup
“I'm old, I'm satisfied, and you were my purpose." this line got me good, it got me good. Then “on the nature of daylight” hit, all emotions broke loose.
Looks like showrunners have read Viktor Frankl's book.
I skipped half the episode. I missed nothing.
these instances didn't play out in this order, but why let a little thing like reality get in the way of a youtube comment. 😅
Murray Bartlett is so unrecognizable between this and White Lotus. He is so good and I hope people give him the recognition he deserves. This episode broke my heart. I always want more Pedro but this was amazing and sad and so heartfelt. Thank you HBO for not being afraid to tell this story.
He won emmy this year
I knew he looked familiar but didn't recognize that he was Armand from White lotus until after the episode was over. He was wonderful and so was Nick Offerman
Wtf didn't recognize him whatsoever. I loved white lotus.. He was great in it.
Typecasted as gay tho lol
True ones love him since the Looking, he’s always been incredible and I’m so happy he’s getting the recognition he deserves ❤
And as Nick de Noia in Welcome To Chippendales!
At the end they even had the same meal from when they just met each other, the feels...
But instead of sitting across the table he sits right next to him.

That's just amazing how good they managed to open up Bill's personality in one single episode. The first two episodes were very close to the game, while the third one added huge changes to the storyline of the side character. I'm so excited to see Henry and Sam storyline
I think this is the first time I've ever seen a show deviate this hard from a GOOD source material and somehow actually make it better. 10/10 episode imho.
They didn’t “open up bills personality” they changed it completely.
I think they actually changed his personality totally but they knew how. It didn´t affect the core story so the risk paid off. The writers knew exactly what to change/add without affecting anything important on the main characters. Well played in my opinion.
@@gomer921 How? he was still a grumpy, unsociable and guarded. We see this less when he's around Frank for obvious reasons but it's still there and he's clearly the same character as in the game. We see this especially in the flashback with Joel and Tess and the note at the end
@@dalaig3987 I think the difference is that in game he became more and more paranoid and antisocial, leading to a fall out between him and Frank. In this version, he accepts love and changes his ways a little.

The moment with the strawberries was so well done. The laugh after not having one in idk how many years. Almost like how ridiculous (in a good way) that they are actually able to eat them again. Such a cool moment.
Oh christ; it was so cliche'....
I shed tears at this scene, and when they're on the couch while Frank explains what he'd like to do for his last day. This episode was a huge departure from the game, but wonderfully written. Nick and Murray deserve an emmy for this
The music made that scene grim. Don't get me wrong, it was s beautiful scene, but knowing that the theme playing was It can't last from pt 2, you know everything is going down... What a masterclass in writing, in my opinion.
the sun in the background, the pollen in the light, it was a beautifully shot scene. represents the best of their time together. my favorite scene of the episode, well done man
@@EnriqueLopez-ew3ob great catch! omg I didn’t know the name of the score playing, but knew it was TLOU2.
the fact that a single episode where they introduce 2 new characters and span 20 years through the episode builds more connection and bond to the viewer and characters than the walking dead can do in 5 seasons. They both deserve Emmy awards. One of the best episode i have ever seen in a show ever. Good job both of you.
Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett deserve Emmys for this episode. Just a masterclass in beautiful storytelling, character development and overall tv
Absolutely they do. I hope the Emmy's gives this show the recognition it deserves and don't ignore it because it's a "scary" show with "infected" people. They tend to ignore horror or zombie shows.
Ok, shill.
@@YouMe-ru6wi but The Walking Dead won 2 Emmys and nominated over 200 times for multiple awards. They hand them out like participation awards every year. This show has no where enough gore to be the same lv as TWD.
You must be a comedienne in your spare time, right?
Absolutely.
Murray’s tears during the first kiss, and Bill’s words at the end: “I’m old. I’m satisfied. And you were my purpose.” The endless emotion of that first hug, the depth of those simple words are awesome,, in the most profound and generous meaning of the word.
I was sobbing like a baby during this episode, it's so beautiful even though it's different from the game, it's different in a good way. Probably one of the best love stories that I've seen in a long time.
Me 2

The fact that Tess was mentioned by Bill, just crushed me. I really love Tess character in this show. She's focus, good planner and strategic thinker.
agreed
Same 😭😭😭😭
Definitely one that either Murray or Nick should win an Emmy or Golden Globe for.
Heart wrenching but also heart warming
You can just inscribe the Emmy to both Offerman and Bartlett right now for best supporting and be done with it, it's going to be impossible for anyone else to top that.
Yeah honestly I think the show is way better than the walking dead and it deserves emmys and golden globes
@@Bacbi Both will very likely only be in this episode so I think they have to go Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series?
I don't know if they can try to go for Supporting with only one episode but if they don't (or can't) then sadly the only major award either can win will be the Emmy for Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series since the Golden Globes, SAG, and Critic's Choice don't give out awards for Guest Acting (in any category). :(
A tie would be fitting but that's highly unlikely. Murray has his from The White Lotus so I hope Nick wins if the Academy has to pick.
@@ssilva872 I've never heard about the Emmy's having a cateogry for the best guest star. I could be wrong but I don't think episode count has anything to do with it. That would be like saying the best supporting oscar nomination needed a set amount of minutes in a movie, and you've had people like Hopkins and Ledger who won Oscars for best supporting even though they are only in 16- and 28-minutes of their respective movies.
Again I could be wrong but I think you are mixing up how tv credits work vs how awards work. Since when it comes to tv credits you do have titles like regular, recurring, and guest stars.
Know them personally, yea?
This is a post-apocalyptic zombie show, it had no right to make me cry as much as it did. So pure and so full of heart.
They are not zombie, they are “infected”, and the show is not a zombie show, it’s about human nature.
Those have been specifically and repeatedly emphasized by the show makers in several interviews.

That part with the note was such a gut punch. I thought it was a little on-the-nose until it said “keep Tess safe,” re-contextualizing the note as something tragic and a reminder of what he owes Tess in keeping Ellie safe.
Nick Offerman deserves an Emmy nomination for this episode. What a performance!
The scene with him processing and weeping at the news that this was Frank's last day was so amazing.
Murray Bartlett too
@@kamil_askarov He was absolutely great as well, but Offerman had the upper hand here, i mean, holy crap.
He will win unless Succession has an even stronger episode for someone. And this one was 10/10 so it will be hard to beat.
God when Nature of Daylight started playing, I couldn't stop crying, that was the best episode of the show so far for me, this is a really special adaptation and Craig and Neil should be so proud, also Murray and Nick were emmy worthy, bravo!
Keeps getting better
I swear....Nature of Daylight is only for such beautiful moments!
Max Richter is a genius
In the Nature of Daylight is a great song but it’s overused. They could’ve used a different track and I would’ve been more sucked in to the story rather than being reminded of Shutter Island and Arrival.
For me, it was the "Vanishing Grace" song from the LTOU soundtrack. A beautiful track bringing mixed feelings about Bill pushing Frank's wheelchair toward the room for the last time, and the song together with the acting conveyed to me that they had lived a fulfilling life together. Great episode!
I love that it was there own choice to go out the way they did. In this series, a lot of people's lives get taken from them. It is so powerful in this dangerous world that they had a different choice. That people got to have a life and have love. It makes it more powerful to me. That the human side to all of us is never really gone. ❤️
One of the most emotional episodes of entertainment I've ever seen maybe in my whole life. Freaking Amazing!
I'm surprised and actually pleased how they changed Bill's storyline. I can understand why some viewers would object to the big changes. Nevertheless, I'm actually okay with the deviation and expansion of Bill and Frank's story. Considering how many people are suffering and dying in horrible ways in a world full of Infected and Hunters, Bill and Frank are fortunate to be able to leave the world peacefully together. Compared to the original game, Bill and Frank got a much more fulfilling and hopeful ending to their story arc.
*The game:* How deep can shutting others out take you.
*The show:* How deep can letting others in take you.
Both explore the same concept just opposite ends of its spectrum. This made me realize that the issue of trust from the game is still explored, just in a different way.
The moment of the strawberrys was one of the sweetest and most romantic and realistic I’ve ever seen. The changes were amazing on this ❤️

Here's my two sentences on character definitions for Bill and Frank:
Bill: Expects the worst in people
Frank: Hopes for the best in them
Loved this Interpretation ❤
So Bill is pessimistic and Frank is optimistic?
Bill knows how to survive, Frank knows how to live
I half-expect that Frank was secretly Ish the whole time.
Just finished the ep, its too good to be a post apocalyptic show. Their love was so genuine
Frank inviting people over for dinner like an annoying wife while Bill is hating it the whole time is so relatable.
I really missed Bill and Ellie moments... "How can anyone walk with that thing?"... But man such a beautiful episode.

Do you think Bill may still be alive?
@@tangomango2459 He's dead, all those plates with rotten food confirms it
@@tangomango2459 i think if he was, it would take away the beauty of the episode. Hey, the game will always be there. If I want to see a cheeky Bill, I’ll play the game, if I want a tragic love story, I’ll watch the show.
Truly a masterpiece of a show. I continue to be blown away more and more with each released episode. This episode had me bawling over two characters I knew for less than an hour. They’re doing it right. Bravo HBO
It was such a beautiful episode and love story. I feel like I should be a sobbing mess but it’s honestly too beautiful for me to cry. I’m so happy with this version of Bill and Frank.

Damn that entire "Last Day" sequence had me crying like a baby. Even though it deviated a bit from the game it enhances the story much more than it takes away. And there are tons of easter eggs from the game as well- the moment when Joel finds SULFUR a crafting ingredient from the game and some "skill up" magazines on the shelves in Bill's house. On top of this the performances were outstanding from everyone! Best episode for me so far!
At least it's not pills ^^

I can't wait to see what is next! (yes I played the games before)
-and I bet you cried when you voted for Creepy Joe too right?
Wow wow wow. This episode had me in tears the entire time. To see a beautiful love story play out in an apocalyptic world was just perfect. It’s rare to ever see two characters entire, fairly happy and stable love story. Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett were phenomenal! I have never cried so much at an episode of a TV Show. Thank you for this episode. x
This is really an amazing episode, I'm so glad that they didn't follow the game. This episode shows that true love still exists and is worth living for despite how bad the world has become. Nick and Murray delivered it so well. Bill and Frank's love is what we all aspire to have in our lives, they are the lucky ones.
If they follow the gane the end of this relationship will be more sad, Frank hating Bill, I'm glad that they change them.
As a gay man, I cried so damn hard. The part of wanting to die being held is something I always wanted for myself. To see this play out, really shook me. Great job to the cast! It was truly a masterpiece of an episode.
'As a GAY MAN', what does that even mean? Who cares? Need a hug, go hug a cactus.
Same here... as a gay man I did not expect this show to deliver on of the most beautiful and respectful story of two men finding love in such a world of horror. Kudos to the creators of this series; I've never been as touched to see 'us' so sensitively and respectfully represented. It was beautiful!

@@harvey1965 As a straight guy, It had me in utter tears. It was just so beautifully told. I felt like I lived their life with them. Poignant, delicate, emotional and utterly heartwarming. What an episode!!!
One of the best episodes, the death of Joel's daughter, the tragic death of Tess and even the death of Sam and Henry are not on par on this one. Bill and Frank set the standard so high, and it left a mark that is so deep.
This is the worst episode I've ever seen.
The second Joel read "save tess" I looked over to my sister and said "talk about him being reminded of his failures". So glad Neil was trying to get that across because it worked
i cried so hard during this episode and rewatched it 4 times. my gosh this love story is so enduring, so emotional, and it just makes me FEEL.
4 times? Wow you haven’t slept ! It hasn’t been 12 hrs since the release!
Such a beautiful episode, It's completly different from the game yet it was just as if not more amazing, they managed to tell a gorgeos love story in constrast to the harsh reality the world is in, and at the same time have Bill serve the same role he had in game which was to teach Joel the lesson to not close himself off, and have people to care for, and here is was through being inspired by a loving man.
Was it at the sacrifice of some iconic scenes from the game? Sure, we had no Bill and Ellie interactions, but we got to explore Frank's whole entire character, and got SO many more scenes because of that, and to top it all off, one of the best representations of a loving gay relationship in media, in my opinion.
I 100 percent agree, i was worried that they would stray too far off from what the original game was going to be. But yet I they did take a completely different turn and im completely fine of what they did. And I genuinely cried at this version of the story
You see this is what is good about this show adaption. When they throw a random gay relationship in a show that is completely out of character just to push an agenda or whatever is what ruined a bunch of shows for me BUT we already knew Bill had a relationship with frank and they just expanded on it which is what some of us wanted in the game. A+ from me
Very well said!!
Nothing is beautiful about homosexuals.
I’ve never seen anyone interested in learning about Frank’s story and now suddenly all these so called fans of the game are like “finally we got Frank’s story”. Are you guys HBO bots or what?
I love that laugh when Bill eats the strawberry. That comes from not having strawberries in SO damn long, just a little thing that most take for granted.
That moment was so wholesome
I need to say, the straberries scene was the most beautiful piece of art I have seen in years! It moved me to tears. I loved it so so much. If I ever go through an experience like that with my partner, where we both are that connected, I will know I would have win the life game. Amazing, Thank you for such a masterpiece.
The scene with the strawberries was just pure bliss.

@@streetdr34mer80 Did you play the game? they implied having a romantic relationship there.
I think I'm starting to notice a little theme with the characters Joel and Ellie encounter in their journey. Each duo is a reflection of either both Joel and Ellie or their relationship with another person. Bill and Frank we're clearly the reflection of Joel and Tess. While Joel and Tess never really seemed to make their relationship official Frank and Bill get married. In a way it sort of shows Joel what he could have had with Tess
I came for funny shenanigans at Bill’s and all I got were tears.

@@streetdr34mer80 I think you mean "character" Nick Offerman isn't gay. Way to show you know nothing bud
This episode was perfect. We know Bill and Frank were partners already in the game. And Frank betraying Bill in the game made sense because the story was centered on Ellie and Joel and it had to add the element of action and twists. In game Bill was supposed to show us what Joel could've become if he closed himself off and it worked to show contrast. In the show, we see the relationship Bill and Frank have. And yes, the show also centers on Joel and Ellie, but it's main theme is love. In this adaptation, Frank had no reason to betray Bill because Bill opened up, as is expressed in the episode and on the letter. In show Bill is an example of what Joel should be to Ellie (although it was originally meant to be for Tess). It works here because the show is basically a narrative of others people's lives and how they reflect Joel's ultimate decision. We can take a break from the action and develop the characters in a new way. This show is turning out to be a masterpiece in itself, where even if you didn't play the game, you still sympathize for the characters and understand their choices.
Perfectly said. I agree, it all makes sense.

@@thenorthendpodcast5647 They're all bots bro.
@@thenorthendpodcast5647 why do you say that?
@@anonyacesnik3309 they are just homophobic
@@thenorthendpodcast5647 yeah I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited for a game adaption, but the last two episodes sucked and it’s becoming quite disappointing.
This series just keeps getting better and better!!
could not hold back my tears during this episode. beautifully done HBO.
3:05 (Season 1 Ending Spoiler) This is really significant, and I'm glad Neil mentions this because it further reinforces why Joel HAD to save Ellie at the end of the story. He feels he failed to save Sarah and Tess, so he certainly wouldn't let it happen again, to Ellie. This show truly is solidifying this story as one of the greatest ever told and brought to life.
I've been keeping me away from every kind of spoiler possible. This episode was something I didn't expect at all and I'm glad the show went with this version. Truly amazing, seriously
Bill watching a guy get blown up on tv while eating steak is such Ron Swanson things
This was truly one of the most gorgeous episodes of a television show that I’ve ever seen. Writing, directing, acting, the way it was shot and edited. Kudos to the entire team.
They turned Bill's and Frank's story arc into a masterpiece. I kinda prefer this to what was shown in the game.
the fact that "It can't last" from the game part 2 played during the strawberry scene.. man so good
I just want to say thank you, It was just amazing.
Nick Offerman deserves every reward he can get for his role of Bill, such an amazing performance! Nick deserves the Oscar for that! Amazing story of gay love. Just perfect.
I'm often sceptical about putting lgbt stories into the story, because in most cases its just ordered by studio company and written by screenwriter because they commanded him to do it. And it takes screen time, and mostly adds nothing to the stories.
In Episode 3 of Last of Us they made incredible gay love story, screenwriter hands down. Neil hands down. So much better than in the game. So emotional, so epic. This is the way to put lgbt stories into the series! Amazing. Just perfect.
Bill, Nick, I know you are not gay in real life and its boosting the role you made even more.
Academy, do your job and give him the Oscar!
The most shocking part to me was them exchanging guns for strawberries. Such a wonderful moment when they enjoy eating strawberries together
Loving the symbol of the deal here : Frank trades a tool of death against seeds that will create life.
There's no way this show will not sweep literally every category for the next Emmy's
Probably the only good video game to show/movie adaptation ever.
@@jack-the-perfumer Edgerunners and Arcane were pretty good, although I can't think of any live action ones
@@slughamer189 oops sorry, meant to add live action lol
Just got done watching the episode...Just beautiful!
