Her name is Montserrat Caballe and she was a legendary opera singer (she died in 2018) that I never knew about until I heard her sing in youtube videos with Freddie Mercury who wrote songs for them to sing together. He was in awe of her and she was in awe of him. And they definitely loved each other. I love your reaction to her because I feel the same way. I never enjoyed listening to women singing opera until I heard her voice. There are no words to describe how heavenly her voice is, but like you, I could listen to it forever. And I love the combination of Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Cabell - it's electrifying. Thank you for a wonderful reaction.

Freddy loved opera and was Monserrat Caballé's fan number one; pronounce her name like Mon-se-'RRat Ca-ba-'ye. She was in the top of the tops of the world of sopranos. They have a good friendship as well. Take a look at she singing "Mio bambino caro", "Carmen" or "Casta Diva".
BTW: You don't know you love opera until you attend to one in a theatre. I only met this amazing artist once, but during my career as Stage Technician I've been participating dozens of operas. I've never bored during my shifts. :)

Freddie loved the opera and he loved Montserrat's voice, she was his favorite singer of all time. Freddie had said in an interview that it was a dream of his to sing one of his songs with her. Somehow that message got to Montserrat and it turns out she is quite the Freddie fan. She has her people get in touch with his people and they arranged to meet in her home town of Barcelona. Montserrat was the top soprano in the world at the time and the video of that first meeting was really something. Freddie was not only star struck, he was so nervous. They decided to go into the studio and see if they would be a good match for a duet. Freddie just wanted a tape of her singing with him but after recording one song, Montserrat wanted to do an album. Freddie said well, you just can't turn down the number one Diva in the world so he got busy writing songs for them to do the album Barcelona named for the place they met. The title song was written for the Barcelona Olympics though Freddie knew he would not be alive by that time. The song was indeed played at the Olympics but it was the album version, not live since Freddie had already passed on .Thank you for reacting to this beautiful song.

That is the trained voice of a woman with immense vocal talent. Next, you should listen to "Exercises in Free Love" to hear Freddy sing operatic notes with no training whatsoever. As for an opera suggestion, you should seriously listen to "The Magic Flute" by Mozart. I used to sing opera in New York, and found your reaction absolutely beautiful. Your ear for music is stellar. Montserrat was one of a kind, by the way, and her relationship with Freddie (who wrote these songs specifically for her and this performance, I believe) was as special as they both were.

OK, try this: czcams.com/video/wvBuCLjByaE/video.html. Caballé was starring as Norma, the main character of a Bellini opera of the same name. That evening of 1974, the cast and crew were performing live at the Orange historical open-air Roman Theater. Yet in the midsts of powerful winds there was Caballé’s pure voice signing “Casta Diva”, despite the winds and over
the orchestra one of the most famous arias of the lyrical repertoire. Each time I watch her rendition that evening, I get goosebumps.

Freddie loved opera and he thought that Montserrat Caballé had the best voice in opera. It was a dream of Freddie's to sing with her which he shared with his manager, Jim "Miami" Beach. Beach arranged a meeting with the 55-year-old Barcelona-born singer at The Ritz hotel in Barcelona in 1986. Freddie took pianist and arranger Mike Moran with him and they played Caballé a demo recording of a song they had prepared for her called “Exercises In Free Love.” Freddie had sung a version imitating her falsetto delivery. Caballé loved the song and asked if she could sing it at Covent Garden the following week.
Freddie admitted he was a bag of nerves about working with Caballé, but she put him immediately at ease, jokingly referring to the Queen frontman as “her Number One.” He called her “my Super Diva.”
“She jokes and she swears and she doesn’t take herself too seriously,” said Freddie. “That really thrilled and surprised me, because up until then I had been laboring under the illusion that all great opera singers were stern, aloof, and quite intimidating. But Montserrat was wonderful. I told her I loved her singing and had her albums and asked if she’d heard of me. She told me she enjoyed listening to my music and had Queen albums in her collection, too.”
They became good friends and Montserrat Caballé was one of the 35 people who were allowed to attend the Zorasterian funeral ceremony for Freddie which was held three days after his death at the West London Crematorium on the grounds of Kensal Green Cemetery. Freddie's family were devout Zoroastrians.

Isn't this just astounding? The whole album is superb.
My favorite operatic tenor is the late great Mario Lanza. He was my introduction to opera as a teenager way back in the middle of the last century. He was an Italian American who did not sing on opera stages, but in concerts and movies. He was quite a movie star, and some people didn't take him seriously as an opera singer because of it, but he really was one of the best. I chose the following little-known song, Lamento di Federico, because it is so excellent. I don't know which Federico is being lamented, but suspect it might be Lorca:
    czcams.com/video/KKU3XEtUEGI/video.html
Then his Una Furtiva Lagrima, because it is one of my favorites, and it begins and ends with bassoons!
    czcams.com/video/JQxIO-v-9t0/video.html
If you can do one more, here he sings Be My Love in English, with clips from a few of his films, just to show you how charming he was:
    czcams.com/video/8t_D9zqyphw/video.html
When it comes to Montserrat Caballé there is so much to choose from. You can find a treasure trove of her work if you search on CZcams, but for starters, you can't go wrong with O Mio Babbino Caro: czcams.com/video/RxZSP1Dc78Q/video.html
Then you might want to listen to some of her earlier work. She was so beautiful.
A lot of people don't like operatic sopranos because they think they sound screechy. Indeed, many have such a brittle edge to their voices that they can make your ears bleed, but Montsy's voice is so magnificently mellow to the ear. There is none other like her.

This is so bizarre! An opera diva and a rock legend singing together, is it rock or opera or both? Whatever, it works and somehow they compliment each other. All the songs were composed by Freddie. There is an interview where he says he never composed duets so this is pretty special

Here for Freddy but my job her voice is perfection. First heard of her singing Barcelona and the first now she sang before it even got started took my breath away. A voice from the heavens. And sadly now, it seems to be back with them.

Montserrat Caballe was one of the gems of lirical singing of the 20th Century. Her pianissimos were surreal, the colour of her voice pure honey and her personality a treasure. I miss her so. Of course Freddie admired and adored her, who wouldn't?

This song is my favorite of their duets - it's probably the least operatic - and it really gives Montserrat an opportunity to shine in another genre. The chemistry between these two is beautiful. Two artistic souls at the top of their game. Great reaction!

Another great introduction to opera is Luciano Pavarotti singing "Nessun Dorma". The piece itself is a masterpiece and sung by Pavarotti it's transcendent. (It's also short - just a few minutes of bliss)

I had a privilige to listen to Monsterrat Caballe live together with her dougther. Her singing is perfection of voice control one of best female opera singers ever for me personaly way better than even Maria Callas ever was. The control of her voice is out of this world and everybody who sings knows that.
She had great respect for Fredy Mercury and they created some magical moments together. Not many opera singers can sing outside opera she could.

I was trained in opera starting at age 4 by a very famos teacher. Her husband was Doctor lions LY Yup, there we go LYO. N. S he made newspapers he was in books. Because of the way that he taught opera and to control your air. I believe he was most famous notedly in and around 1890 and tell his death. Which I you know, I don't know. Mrs. Lyons was my teacher and the only reason she did. It was because she knew my Grandma and she was considerably older than my Grandma. She was teaching me well I. It like at 88 I think it was, and I'm just beautiful, and anybody who wants to listen to music should listen to opera because there's something to be said it. The discipline that it takes to do what she is amazing and Freddie was so honored to get to sing with her. I can't even imagine because she's the star, not Freddie. I'll tell you that right now. Freddie, yes, his voice magnificent. However, she is the one that is singing something that can break break. Break, break your heart, listen to them, sing Barcelona together. It's just cheese magnificent, so's Freddy. But if you knew the discipline that she had to do you go no way and you'd? Because there's massive discipline, I'm saying it from age 4 to age 10 and given my age wasn't that good so my grandparents died my Grandpa dead. And that was the end of my life 13 I ran away. And joined Greenland brothers part of a Bailey circus so there.

You used to live near Miami I think, did you move to North Carolina. If you're not far from Charlotte, there may be a live theatre venue there where you could experience opera or musicals like Phantom of the Opera, which I have seen in person twice with each performance unique. You could search locally where you are to find places like Ovens Auditorium, Levine Center for the Arts, Booth Playhouse or others. Contacting one or more of them, letting someone know about your interest, you might get some interesting offers, or insight into events or shows coming soon. If you're not in Charlotte, I'm sure you can find things in your area.
