What I love about this is not only is this amazing deathcore, but also how each song a uses a different melody from “The Four Seasons,” one of the most recognizable pieces of classical music ever. Death Empress uses the melodies from “Spring,” I the devourer uses the melodies or “Summer” and so on. It’s a really great form of story telling as it tells a story of how a medieval conflict had escalated through out the course of a year, with conflicts brewing in the first song during the spring, preparing for battle during the summer, having the battles during Autumn (which in medieval times is when most battles were fought due to the climate), and the aftermath of the battles in the winter. What are the sections that has vivaldi’s melody in each song?
i kinda disagree on the medieval part, yes its written in mythological terms and abstract metaphors but if we use the video materials aswell as the lyrics i feel like its more of a story about the developement of nuclear weapons and the subsequent demise of humanity as a whole.
Death Empress feels like WW2 and the struggle to finish developement on nukes. with the imagery of the blooming flower in the video being the first detonation then the abstract sand shot being the shockwaves in hiroshima and the "empress" staring into the camera is something like the world watching at what they created and then following a shot of nagasaki.
I, the Devourer may be about further developement and the nuclear arms race during the cold war.
Poetic edda is a summary of how WW3 went down
Premonition being the prelude during a time of unrest.
Siege being the outbreak of large scale war.
Wrath is when the nukes finally drop "gjallahorn transforms into its true form, the gates open wide, all realms run and hide" imagine gjallahorn being an icbm, the gates of a silo opening, alarms sounding worlwide what else is there to do as to run and hide in futility while the nukes fly?
the subsequent fallout then "wolf dont come near" etc seems to me about radiation. stillborn children, lepers without a cure and so on. kinda clear imagery to me.
Ash then being about the rising nuclear winter.
and finally Winter is about the final stages of life in general on earth, the world is fully in the grasp of nuclear winter, the skies are blackened. "oh this cold weary old world" followed by "engulfed in ice" with the SUDDEN halt of any sound is basically the last human dying and the earth finally becoming a dead planet.
you might be right, i might be right who knows? the lyrics arent literal enough to actually decide its just my interpretation but god damn is it fun to speculate and interpret. true piece of art this ep!

Also, Poetic Eddas is the oral literature of Iceland (which since has been written down) about ancient norse pagan beliefs

Masterpiece of music here. Never has anyone truly used Classical music (Baroque Period here;Vivaldi Four Seasons) & merged it with metal like this. Words don't even do justice in explaining what level musicianship & creativity it takes to create music this cohesive & exceptional. This perfectly showcases how classical music should be integrated into modern music. Incredible.
