Omg, thank you for the shout-out! The cat keyboard is a big hit on stage.
"There are absolutely no input or output ports"
"Ages 2-6"
Well, Sergei Prokofiev wrote his first piece at age 5. To take one somewhat famous composer as an example.
The Knight Rider theme on that keyboard. Pure genius. You rock David!
FreeScorpio Pe mine.
My cat reacted when you played the Meow instrument 😂
Ha ha, My mom played a video with a cat on her phone months ago, and her cat was in another room, and he came running into the room that she was in. :D
3:18 By far the best thing to have been recreated on CZcams
I know you can read my thoughts boy... Meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow, meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow
I love how the meow sound is just a recording of someone saying "Meow"... and that it's two note moggyphonic, of course.
It’s 5am and here I am, watching a grown man play with a cat keyboard while I lay in bed unable to sleep. I’m enjoying every second of the video but.... what’s wrong with me? I need to sleep
Matthew Rease indeed it is, because here I am, 6 months later, birds chirping outside and it’s 6:43am after another sleepless night.
Try quickly blinking 100 times right before bed, it will cause the muscles around your eyes to become fatigued .
chinablue who it’s 1:11am and I just tried what you said and it didn’t help. Thanks anyway though. It just feels like there’s springs between my eyelids pushing them apart and open.
Uh oh! I guess I’ll have to work on my «feline» playing techniques the next time I’m in town then. 😸
Its not hard to perfect your feline skills. Just catch a few felines, line em up in a row. Pull each tail and see what note they generate. Re-arrange the cats so they form a perfect scale, and start playing. Bonus points if you can make em play automatically by feeding an arduino a midi sequence, triggering solenoids to pull the tails ;)
There actually were cat and pig organs like that in the olden days. very tonally limited though.
12:31 Knight Rider theme!!! 😄
Thank you! I know what Night Rider is, but I've never seen it and all I could think was "Sounds like a level I never got to in System Shock..."
Auto Gaggins thanks, ur probably one of two people who got it lol
Love how David keeps things balanced. Old keyboard newer tunes, newer keyboards retro tunes.
@12:33 Best cover of the Knight Rider theme ever!
Look up Mitch Murder's version. Not taking anything away from David, cus he's a genius, but it will blow your mind lol
Ha, I just checked it out. Somehow that version is even more 80's than the actual TV show version. I think it's the quaintness of the toy keyboard version that gets me.
Agreed. And think about it, David just used a simple keyboard and Audacity and got a brilliant result. Love it!
Pimp My Meowsic Keyboard
Yo dawg, we heard you like keyboards so we put a keyboard in your keyboard.
There was also a dog guitar. My daughter had both. And kudos for the Knight Rider theme. That was really good.
I used to have a dog guitar. Saw one in a Barnes & Noble recently and got a wave of nostalgia
Well, he did it again. Only the 8-Bit Guy could make a video about a toy cat keyboard and have me glued to the screen the whole time.
my nephew got something like the meosic keyboard. all he does with it is follow the cat arround and annoy the crap out of it.
Yes an 8-bit keys video it’s been so long thank you for keeping 8-bit keys alive
Runaway train Productions what about his gun channel? (I shit you not he has one...)
Runaway train Productions thanks David I knew you won't abbaonded 8 bit keys
Runaway train Productions I am not. Forgot what it was called (will check later) but he owned a fucking pistol.
I can't tell you how cool this is. As a musician I have already been a dedicated follower of the 8 bit guy. Then I discovered your keyboard channel! Made my day!
I love what you did with the Casio SA-9. I could listen to that drum loop for several hours.
I had a Casio SA-1 when I was a kid, circa '91 or '92. It's the same as the SA-9 but the top is black, not green and blue and it has the audio out fitted. I've never learnt to play anything but loved to hear the demo song, "Wake me up before you go-go" by Wham 😁
Hernán Álvarez I had that exact keyboard.
I've been trying to figure out which model it was (I was only 6)
exactly what I wanted to say! I remembered having this keyboard exactly as you describe. Glad i'm not getting crazy :)
i had a different version of the technobeat and i taught myself almost everything i know on it but eventually my song writing skills became too complex for it so i switched to a casio ctk-541 both are great and i think its cool we both got a little bit of our past back from this video. thanks 😉
I just heard a song composed by The 8 Bit Guy and played on a cat keyboard. I can die happily now.
Kriegsheld, pfff I've seen art with D.Va, Solider 76 and Mercy fighting with Zerg Swarm
Awesome channel, it's a pleasure watching ! The small Casio is quite good, the reverb sounds good
Love your other channel and just discovered this one! LOVE the old school synths dude.
I need more Meow keyboard music! 😻
This guy wrote a pretty killer song with it.

The SA-9 is a slightly different colored (to fit better in the colorful 90s) version of the SA-1... A Keyboard from 1989.Yes nearly 30 Years old. And it looks and sounds still better then all new mini Keyboards.
I didn't realize it was that old. I thought I read somewhere that it came out in 2006. I found mine at a garage sale a few months ago.
I've got a Casio SA-39 at home, one of the rarest. They started as of 1989, and the SA-39 is from 1998. The Casio SA-46 and SA-76 are from 2009, and still produced.
I still have my Casio SA1 (works perfectly) even with the original box. It was a gift from my parents 32 years ago. Really liked the video.
I had fond memories of it. The wham demo music makes me believe the keyboard could be more than 2 poly.
This goes to show that some toy keyboards can indeed be useful, even for adults, especially musicians who would want to use them for music production.
8-Bit Guy, you are the coolest dude. Thanks for doing these cool things.
This is great. I’m really diggin’ your content. Also, thank you for cleaning, and restoring old keyboards. That’s really awesome of you to do. Anyway, keep it up! #8bitKeys
I am totally going to pick up an Casio SA-9. That thing is a 1980s sound bank for sure! THe SA-76 seems like it has some use too, but the SA-9 is a must have to get those 80s sounds I remember, ha.
Me: I'm going to go to bed at 11 tonight.
Me at 3 A.M: *is watching **9:04*
Years ago, after my wife and I first went shopping for gifts on the toy aisle for our new daughter, my wife stumbled on this. I have no clue why. She fell in love with it. She's not an 8-bit/electronics nerd like I am but... I think she's going to like this video... and probably ask that I line-out from this thing like you've done.
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing. I really loved to see the SA-9. It looks identical to the SA-1 I owned as a kid, back in the 80's. Even the sound when you select another instrument is the same. I bet that this one does not have the awesome "wake me up before you go-go" demo tune. :)
czcams.com/video/jobh4mRXsGE/video.html you'd be right - the SA-7 and SA-9 have a Glenn Miller - American Patrol demo song --- czcams.com/video/jobh4mRXsGE/video.html ... Apparently the SA-10 also has Wham - Wake Me Up (Before You Go Go) like the SA-1.
I just found a Techno-Beat keyboard on line. This is one of the most interesting keyboards I've seen. It has a weird design flaw I plan to investigate. Thanks for reviewing this. Also the Meowsic. We all need one of those.
A beautiful trip down memory lane with that awesome Knight Rider theme. Abslutely loved it
I need that keyboard right MEOW!
Push print screen, open paint or something, paste and print. Now the Meow keyboard is yours. You can have your own Ferrari too!
You get a like for the work on that teeny little keyboard! I'm impressed :D
I use a Casio SA 46 for in home lessons with my voice students that don't have a piano at home. While the sounds aren't stellar, it does the trick and fits in my sheet music bag. A solid tool for $35-40. Great review btw-
I swear I had that casio tone bank keyboard sometime in the early 90s, but mine was off white. The sound was so familiar, especially the sound of punching in numbers to switch sounds. Now my daughter had the meowsic. Great vid!
12:31 OMG KNIGHT RIDER !
I actually had the cat keyboard when I was around 4 or 5. We called it the cat piano though, and eventually we ended up getting rid of it. Kind of interesting to see that they haven't changed in 7 years.
I got a 90s Yamaha PSR-82 when I was 2 and that's where I started the road of keys.
So you were 4 or 5 7 years ago. 7 years must seem like an eternity to you.
That was awesome bro I love the Knight Rider theme!
Sir. I ve had a rough day. And somehow your kitty song made me smile. Thanks for your effort and youtube channel. God bless you sir 👍
I like how you had trouble keeping a straight face in this video. Playing meow mix was funny.
I really got a kick out of the meowsic keyboard. Doing the mix with audacity was really cool.
Oh man, that song at 8:42 is beyond epic. Loved it!
I’ve never heard such a thorough review of the Meowsic Keyboard.
that casio SA-9 is basically the EXACT keyboard i had when i was growing up in the 90s, down to the button press sound, so it's interesting to see that it's still being made (as of the posting of this video)!
10:05 I totally agree! As a pianist myself, I would love to do a performance on one of these!
Sounds like Technobeat wasn't ending old notes to make room for new ones, so it was hitting its 7-note polyphony limit even after you let go of the keys, since it was waiting for the note to finish fading out.
I have a nexxtech keyboard with 7-note polyphony and it will end old notes to make room for new ones, even if I am still holding the key down. Fairly interesting.
It Been Forever!
I gave a thumbs up for your excellent rendition of Knight Rider.
The Casio S49 is exactly what I've been looking for! My Grandma has an old Casio from the 80s that stopped working. This looks perfect to replace it :o
I DID EXACTLY THE SAME THING TO MY MEOWSIC KEYBOARD!!!!
No joke, got it from goodwill months ago and installed a mic in and output port!
I seen a MEOWSIC Keybroad at a thrift store a few weeks ago. I wish I seen this video a back then. Maybe I would’ve try to mod it. 🎹
Ok I have to play this "MeowMeowMeowMeowMeowMeowMeowMeow Meow Meow Meow Meow Meow Meow Meow Meow"
HAHAHA
I guess not. I know the simpsons did something with that tune.
"I know you can read my thoughts boy, Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum "
Knight Rider was so dope! Great job!
Props to you on the knight rider theme. You got the vibe spot on, Bruddah.
#Keep8BitKeysAlive in 2018!
Fran-cat-stein keyboard with those bolts in the neck.
Best video 8-Bit Guy!
That meow mix jingle was brilliant.
8 Bit Keys is always in a better mood than 8 Bit Guy.
He's a sweetheart.
I absolutely LOVE that red white and blue keyboard, I'm sure I could get some interesting sounds out of that bad boy
Man, I had the SA-9 when I was a kid, haha. I spent so much time on that little thing. The demo song is forever stuck in my mind.
Heck Yeah, Knight Rider!
I had one of those Casio Tone Banks when I was a kid (early 90s). It looked almost identical and sounded identical, I think the demo button played wake me up before you go-go, although I distinctively remember it having a headphone jack, which this one seems to lack.
Yup me too. Had the same demo too. My sister and I both had them and drove our parents insane with them haha.
This was a really good review video. Thanks
Yeah !!! Knight Rider !!!
The Series was from the 80s and even at that Time the Intro was not technically challenging. It's more the simple Things that remain in our Ears. Someone remember the german Band "Trio" with that cute little Casio Keyboard ?
When the Knight Rider theme came up xD
Keep doing what you do!!!!
Very entertaining to watch this, thank you for sharing :)
I have to admit, I really enjoyed this episode for a latecomer to the channel, but I was a tiny bit let down that I didn't get to see the insides of the last cheap 'junky keyboard', as well as anything successfully played on either of the last 2. I also understand though. I'm sure you spend enough time on producing these shows for us.
I had bought myself a Yamaha YPG235 a few years ago and was determined to learn how to play it for the first few months I had it, but looking back now I wish I had aimed a little lower, like that Casio SA-9. I think I would have been a little bit less intimidated by it. I also wish I would have found this channel back then as well.
I had a toy keyboard back in the day, in the 2000’s. It was great! It had all the notes of a proper keyboard, all the notes a piano has at least, and had switches to let it synthesise numerous different instruments. I still own it, it runs off of AA batteries, and sounds really good to be honest. My favourite part about it is how it has red LCDs in all of the keys, which light up when the key is pressed and it comes with loads of songs which you can select. There’s a switch that toggles if you want it to play the song, or just give directions. If it’s set to play the song, then it plays the song and lights up the keys, but if it’s set to off then it just lights up the keys silently so you can play the song with it! It’s really cool in my opinion. It had loads of other features too like tone controls and metronomes and loads of other stuff.
I had a lot of fun with it as a kid. Although I am terrible at playing, using the pre-recorded songs for practise and the song directions I was able to make some good songs. The keyboard also had proper beat/rhythm control that let you choose from many beats and rhythms and then customise them too, even meaning your own from scratch, and then you could choose the sound it’d use for the beat/rhythm, or you could make it silent and have the keys light up.. I also have some good memories of using the feature it had that let you record a song to replay later. It was brilliant fun to me as a child, and I expect I could break it out of the loft and use it as a proper keyboard. I remember my dad telling me at around that age that most toy keyboards are basically just normal keyboards, albeit somewhat simplified, and that mine was better than most in that aspect.
I’ve also got to give it some props for having normal sized keys, and having the ability to play many keys at once and even record your voice to go along with the song. It was well worth the tiny price of about 30 early 2000’s pounds, if I remember rightly.
Love this cable routing on the wall, hehe!
That Knight Rider recreation was AWESOME !
OMG! The Knight Rider theme!
I feel old now...
First I was thinking: "Ok, why is he even doing something like this?!?" but after a while it got quite interesting speaking of device-modding.
That was cool how you did this!
I have a Casio SA 46 keyboard, similar to the SA 76 you show. Its fun to practice with has some cool sounds.
"It's quite bear actually..." No, it's defo a cat!
12:50 Knight Rider YES! This is why you have to have an awesome dad to show you classic shows and movies
Hey! I’m playing my little sister’s First Act Discovery as I watch because it’s the only keyboard I have. I just learned Mary Had A Little Lamb and I want to learn more. Keep up the good videos!!! 👍
You caught off guard there with the Knight Rider theme. Nice!
3:19 hey thats meowtastic
Could you imagine if 8-bit Keys got his hands on a Yamaha CS-80? Also that cat keyboard is glorious.
Okay, but if he gets one, he HAS to play something from the Cosmos soundtrack.
Wow! That Knight Ryder theme was really cool!
Cool! I have used toy keyboards on serious production before and they work great if you know what you're doing actually. Thanks, it's been fun watching!✨🎸⚡︎👀💕
It was fun with Meowsic
12:31 - 13:21 DUDE YOU BLEW ME AWAY WITH THAT!!! I wont say what, I don't want to spoil it for anyone 🚘
Love your content
👍👍
the meow keyboard was my first! its what got me into playing. watching this gave me major flashbacks of sitting on the floor "drooling" into the mic singing along to 'that kitty in the window'
That modded meowing keyboard is exactly what makes these videos unmissable, haha.
Lazy Game Reviews its a nerdgasm of epic proportion
8-bit keys doesn’t post often, but when it does, it’s always a treat, for my 8bit ears.
Lazy Game Reviews I have the same cat keyboard but the nose broke off but I haven't broken it since. 😅
cant beat playing with a pussy
I'm shocked at how easy it is really
