- Bankei Yōtaku 盤珪永琢, 1622-1693) was a Japanese Rinzai Zen master, and the abbot of the Ryōmon-ji and Nyohō-ji. He is best known for his talks on the Unborn as he called it.
Bankei was an immensely popular and influential teacher who spoke directly. avoiding sutras and ceremony. He adhered to no particular school and his teaching was remarkably individual and raw, of the essence of Zen. His concern was with the truth as an immediate experience, not with a systematic approach to a distant goal. He preached what he had discovered in his own experience-"the unborn" or "the birthless Buddha-mind"-and he spoke in plain language that anyone could understand.

Yes, the unborn and the unbecome are in the Pāli canon I believe? But what about the “deathles? I believe it was used in early Buddhism as a synonym for nirvana nibbāna? What do you think and why because in early Buddhism nibbāna meant that if it is obtained a person does not have to reincarnate and is liberated from samsāra.

I love Bankei. But - how are we to know what he knows apart from just saying ‚i am the Buddha mind ‚. ?
Venerable, Everything (including our 5 aggregates) arise from and dissolve into Pure Consciousness, which is imperishable; so is it right to say that this is the luminous ground of the Unborn Undying Buddha Mind, where we all are just manifestations/appearances of this luminosity?
With much love, it's best to say nothing. Avoid any tendency to reification or trying to sort it out intellectually and simply rest in Awareness. All your doubts and questions will then clarify and dissolve. 🧡

Is the Buddha mind that where there is no intention? The source of the aspect of all our sense and nonsense experiences? The happenings before the thought arises of an I that is intending to listen or owning the listening faculty? Is that all it is?🙏
Sounds like a good overview. However, it is not a "thing", so whatever someone says about it or defines it as, it is not IT. It can only be intuitively realised - well beyond words and definitions that are only pointers.
