I will continue to maintain that it is unbelievable that Stana Katic never received an Emmy for her acting in the Castle series. She is incredibly talented and justifiably deserved that acting award at least once. Hopefully, Absentia will afford her another opportunity to gain the recognition she so richly deserves as an actor. Happy Birthday, Stana!!
You're absolutely right, Paul Irwin. Stana does run the risk of being type cast, however, I once heard her say that she chose roles based on how well they "told a story" that would resonate with the audience. If you look at the total body of her work, there is quite a bit of diversity in the characters she has portrayed.

I scored a billion brownie points by buying the box set of all 8 seasons for my wife's birthday and we've just finished re-watching season 6. Personally I think seasons 3 and 4 are my favourites but they're all good and Stana Katic really should have got at least one Emmy for her portrayal of Beckett. I also think Nathan Fillion was excellent, especially in season 4 when he's waiting for Beckett's wall to come down. In fact I can't think of a single character who was badly played and I really wish Ryan and Esposito had got their own spin off because they were just awesome. I don't think it'll happen but I'd like to see a sort of "next gen" Castle focussing on Alexis because Molly Quinn really did grow into that role so well especially when she was running the PI business with Hayley.

I really want a Kate Beckett TV show. Just a good, old fashioned TV police drama with her kicking butt and catching the bad guys. Everyone can come along except Castle.
