  • Short video of some of what you can expect when you visit the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. No paranormal activity or ghost hunting in this video. The hotel and setting is beautiful and this video concentrates mostly on that. Recorded September 2019.

My wife and I spent a week in Estes Park a few years ago. Visited the Stanley Hotel but didn't stay there. The entire region is great to visit.

I went and did the tour thing some years ago, was kinda fascinating, especially the basement/cellar area. Didn't book a room there, but will in the future I'm sure (we have friends in Denver so that's where we stayed)

The entire scene is incredible. Set aside some time for Estes Park itself, too.

Most of the movie the shining was actually filmed in England using false background. ❤

Hmmm, something is weird at 0:52... on the left of the screen... am I the only one who noticed??

At the time, Colorado was a legalized state, and the one where I live was not, so I made the most of my extended weekend there.

Did they serve red rum at this hotel?

There's a small section near the front lobby where they have framed photos and a small synopsis about the making of the movie (as well as "Dumb and Dumber" which was filmed there). That's really it. There are a lot of things like the maze that were already there, which inspired details in the book, but there really isn't anything the other way around (supernatural elements from the book/ movie). I'm not sure what they actually serve because the bar was always closed.

@@RobertFithen I bet you have to go to the empty bar and stare in the mirror and have your index finger ask for Red Rum over and over and over again….

@@RobertFithen you spooked me with those girls in the hallway - good editing. Good setup- kept going back to the narrow hallway to make us think it was safe…

So this is not the same place that Kubrick's movie was filmed? Never saw the made for TV version. I know King didn't like the movie. This place seems charming. Good scare at the end!

The TV version was filmed there. It was the hotel that inspired the original novel.
