Al "am I real" overthinking is so valid , we as humans who lives in their bodies get existential questions imagine not having a body after some times it will start playing with your mind . So I love how real this conflict was and how they resloved it .
It's a legit dilemma to be this "thing" like Alphonse and wonder if you're just some experiment yourself, but I felt like the episode didn't really do a good job at explaining how much he'd have to ignore to accept that idea (he's just a kid, after all).
And Al is still child.

Al's "am I real" discussing with Barry isn't really set up here for the sake of a plot point, it's meant to provide a philosophical contrast to Ed's discussion with the Slicer(s). Ed convinces the Slicers that he considers them to be living people, even without bodies, simply because they're still ensouled. And Barry tries to convince Al that his lack of a body means there's a chance he's not even real, that the soul/memory information could be faked. It's a question of what makes a person a person, their physical self vs. their mental self.
I think it's important to mention that Al is still a little kid. Children are, generally, more gullible. Also there is probably still more to Al's existence as a soul. He is a scientist after all. Someone like him wouldn't be sure that he has all the facts.
...and they mentioned his age as soon as I unpause, haha
Remember, Al is just a kid's soul bound to an armor
Barry was spewing nonsense to mess with Al to gain an edge in the fight - but Al having doubts is understandable, with how he spent years in the armor. He's so young, that's like a lifetime for a kid. However, this moment also shows how Alphonse is not a "flawless" pure character. He has confirmed weaknesses: naivety and anxiety.

i know yall are done with the show and from the looks of it yall seem to have really enjoyed it. but even with aot it was unpredictable for the LONGEST time we only started to come up with crazy theories around the time when the beast titan showed up. for the most part we were under the impression that life is unfair, why be stuck behind these walls, it’s about fighting for freedom. only to realize it’s so much bigger than that. things seem unpredictable and we seem to be focused on the philosopher’s stone bcs that’s al and ed’s main goal they have no idea that a bigger plot was brewing and they were only led to it by following the philosopher’s stone’s trail.
when someone says they didn’t like fmab or they didn’t get it, i know they either got into expecting something and got disappointed and never stuck it out, or they watched it during a bad time and they were not able to invest time to understand the politics and lore of the show (which imo makes it stand out till this day) the pacing of the show is phenomenal, the reason you don’t know what you’ll get in each episode is bcs there’s no slow beats the story just flows and sometimes wrap up in that episode or just ending leading into the next or a future episode (i.e scar’s situation) which i feel makes pinpointing “arcs” hard in this show. i personally love it, it made the show have a heavier impact knowing we’re cooking for this grand “event” and trying to figure out what it is exactly.
I love this show, but they have a point about it feeling 'unpredictable'. They are so used to watching shows with clear 'arcs', that this one can feel a bit random at times. Looking forward to their reactions going forward though, I'm sure they'll love it in the end
That's one of the things that drew me in even more to the show. It's effectively a mystery plot at this point and most characters only know as much as the audience which makes it more interesting.
Al can move when his head is off b/c the blood seal is on the body of the armour (on the neck). Ed was surprised to see Slicer move after sending the head flying b/c the blood seal he'd been shown was on the *head*, he was not aware of the second blood seal (and thus second soul) on the body.
The blood seal binds the soul to the part it's drawn on, allowing the soul to control it. So a seal on the head can ONLY control the head, not the body.
But Slicer had two seals, so even when the head got knocked off, the body could still move since the second soul was controlling that.
The fact he uses episode 10 for that is wild 😅 trust me you'll remember episode 10

8:47 one of the problems with the translations, in dub he says "i want to tell you something" but in sub "i've been wanting to ASK you something" such a big difference when you want to think about what he wants to say/ask
Then why’s Al still questioning it in the next episode? It makes more sense in the Dub

I guess im still sorta confused about "too unpredictable" but it seems like he means "not any/many strong plot threads" which id agree with at this point in the show but its still early too.
