When I lived in Georgia, I learned the story of Mary Turner who suffered horrifically in an attack by a white mob in 1918. After her husband was killed she spoke out against it. So they kidnapped her and bound her upside down hanging her from a tree. She was 8 months pregnant at the time. They burned her clothing off of her and plunged a knife into her belly while she was still alive. They cut the baby from her belly and brutalized it. Then riddled her body with bullets. This story is never told in mainstream American history books, but you can google the story for all the details 😢

I majored in Africana Studies and unfortunately, our professors were mostly from continental Africa so there were no professors who taught the history of American Descendants of Slavery with firsthand knowledge of atrocities committed against us. Perform a background check on every guy that she is dating. If your daughter is leasing an apartment, in a college dormitory, etc, then the parents must also know the names of all roommates and the address of the apartment/college dormitory! In fact, it is a great idea for both parents to visit the apartment/dormitory every once in awhile to get a sense that everything is okay and to also assess the roommates' character, values, etc.

My grandpa fought in WW2. He had to lie about his age to sign up because he blew a white man's head clean off down in Mississippi for disrespecting his woman (who would later my grandma). His mother told him that while she was proud of him, he better join the army quick and get the hell out of the state of Mississippi. When I was in elementary school I only got a few paragraphs about Black history and a paragraph on integration and the “I have a dream” speech. Point is, whether they legislate it or not Black history has NEVER really been taught in school. It’s up to US to learn it and make sure our children learn it even if we have to teach it at a Saturday school, after school, in the religious institutions and of course, at home- but it must be taught AT ALL COSTS and we can’t wait for others to pass some law to do it - we need to do it!

In fact, it is a great idea for both parents to visit the apartment/dormitory every once in awhile to get a sense that everything is okay and to also assess the roommates' character, values, etc.

When my daughter was younger I used to warn her about whyt folk especially in the work place. And her response back then "oh mom that's YOUR generation ppl don't act like that anymore". But when she was 18 or 19 she started seeing for herself what I taught her. She went to nearly all whyt middle school and high school. It took her being in THE REAL WORLD to see things as they are...now my daughter (now 30) is very in tune with what's around her and in tune with her people and how the world perceives us.

When I was in elementary school I only got a few paragraphs about Black history and a paragraph on integration and the “I have a dream” speech. Point is, whether they legislate it or not Black history has NEVER really been taught in school. It’s up to US to learn it and make sure our children learn it even if we have to teach it at a Saturday school, after school, in the religious institutions and of course, at home- but it must be taught AT ALL COSTS and we can’t wait for others to pass some law to do it - we need to do it!

Thank you for showing some real black history. My family use to tell us these stories and we as children back than was like why didn’t they fight back. My grandmother said because blacks wasn’t even allowed guns in those times. Even when they hunted they had to set traps and kill animals for food. One of my grandmother brothers was beat to death because he was walking home from work. Back than blacks had a curfew in Mississippi. Don’t get caught after dark. Our people will be surprised about the history in America it’s not pretty.
