    To my surprise, I actually kinda liked ADAM the most out of the 3 pedals. The distortion just have this gritty and cool character to it, and you can always pull back the blend and mids a bit, if it sounds too "in your face".

      But man... That was a surprise. I liked the ADAM better too. Not that I don't like the pedal. After some work with it and taking the time to set both my bass and the pedal, I am SUPER HAPPY about it.

    Thanks for the great video, very interesting to have all these 3 amazing pedals in the same context, with the fullband mix to the bass only sound. It helps a lot an intermediate player like me (I try to convince myself I'm intermediate...) to realize how a bass only sound realistically feels in a complete mix.
    I was already leaning towards the Photon and your video confirms me on this. And surprisingly to me, the ADAM reached the 2nd place when I thought it would be the Infinity.

    If I needed to explain these units to someone I would say the ADAM is for snappy tone with zingy distortion, the AlphaOmega is a round more traditional sounding distortion and the Infinity fills the middle ground with a bit more lows than the ADAM, growly distortion that is still snappy on the higher register.
    If I had to choose one it would have to be a lot based on features because all 3 tones are great and usable. If I could have all of them ADAM on preset 1, Infinity on 2 and AlphaOmega on 3

  • @eskilseter
    @eskilseter Před rokem +6

    It's so blindingly obvious that the ADAM is designed to sit in a band mix, and not be soloed (which makes sense considering who helped design it). Soloed it tends to sound fizzy and harsh, but it just slots into a distorted band mix so incredibly well.
    I still like my Photon best for drive tones for sure. I miss that tube saturation tone that the VMT/Infinity offers, but the fatness of the drive tones keeps my Infinity GAS at bay (for now).

  • @kevinkwmiller

    I think the ADAM sounds best during the just bass sections, but when the whole band is playing hard, I feel like the Infinity cuts through best. I do think both of those are probably heavily influenced by how you dialed things in though. Thanks for the comparison. That was a ton of work. 🤘

    When all the instruments play I don't hear a major difference. However, during the calm parts character can be heard better.
    Adam 3:08 4:35
    AO 6:51 8:19
    Infinity 10:33 12:00
    Frankly speaking, IDK. I would play with EQ and other settings and most likely it would be possible to find more similar sound and fit them all in the mix. Alpha omega has too much mids and cuts through, infinity is a bit bassy, adam fits good, but it doesn't mean that it will sound the same in your mixes. And again you always can cut/boost the midrange etc... Adam -> Infinity -> AO
    In this section I like AO the most, it is the most tight sounding, gives energy without muddiness:
    Adam: 3:52
    AO: 7:35
    Infinity: 11:16

    I think the Infinity had the best "clean" sound, specially in the full mix. The ADAM had almost no low end during the verses and sounded buried. Maybe that's the point? "Sitting in the mix." ADAM also sounded lacking in the Fuzzy part, but that's probably cause the Blend was turned way down. The Photon had more low end and a thump that stood out more to me, specially for the Fuzzy part. Honestly couldn't tell a difference between the Photon and Infinity during the chorus, they both sounded great.

    For my ears ADAM has better compressor, truly multi-band, removes all boomy low end from signal. It sounds like studio compressor. The signal is already mastered. So overall signal coming from the chain is more refined and easily sitting in the mix.
    I had AO Ultra and for me it is a not metal pedal, more like leading tones thing for not super heavy stuff, round, classic tones, bit like a tube stuff. Photon is the same. But overall good sound of course.
    Infinity sounds great, and I personally like B3K sounds there, but another a bit to boomy and unsetteled in the mix. It is possible to refine it more on the next stage of course.

      Money, pure and simple. This isn't a new way of doing things; loads of companies that make digital pedals will sell multiple different pedals that actually only differ in terms of the loaded software. These pedals take a lot of research and development, so if they were to simply offer any ADAM owner the ability to load the Photon or Infinity software they would "lose" a lot of the money and time that went into that R&D.
      Source Audio is the only one I know of that will allow you to partly bypass this. A few of their One series pedals will allow you to load the software from different pedals into it.

    • @MadMagicPaul
      @MadMagicPaul Před rokem

      I agree. But it's the Darkglass / NeuroDSP method. All their plugins could be a single package too - like Helix Native. But instead they split it up into separate packages that appear cheaper alone, but cost a lot more if you buy them all.
      It's our fault as players really. If we didn't chase tone of other players then products that were like the Archetype-Artist plugins wouldn't sell the way they do. But we've become lazy. We don't book rehearsal studios to work on our tone anymore - we want to buy a pre-packed tone and we expect it to work immediately, without thought and without any effort.
      And then we wonder why we sound like everybody else...
      I love the sound of Darkglass pedals and I use them at home for fun. But I won't use them live or recorded anymore. The sound is now so obvious and so common. It's like the mid 1990s when every heavy band was running Mesa Dual Recs with a tubescreamer. They all sounded the same.

    Comparisons are good just until you record a band sounding different that this track.
