    Great episode! I love Neil's musical ellipse which is really powerful! Ari's theme works more like a huge jingle (in the very good sense of it), making the heroe's theme very strong. Can't wait for the next one(s)!

      Hi Lefteris, Thank you so much! I was using a guitar tuned down a minor 3rd with the low "E" dropped another whole step 🤘🏼. I ran it into a Strymon distortion pedal, then straight in to my A/D. Then I used the first Amp Sim I could find to have it sound like it went through a cabinet. (Waves maybe?) Then did some post EQ'ing on it to get it to sit better in the mix. Hope that helps. - Thanks Neil

    Nice job, Ari and Neil. Enjoyed both tracks. Looking forward to more episodes.
    As an aside, though, would love to see a video of each (Neil and Ari) explaining their gear and setups and what they see as essential to their process. I’m really curious what Ari put in his modular rig and the thought process behind it, as well as just wondering in general how each works, especially as both of you seem to split your time between “in the box” and what one might consider “outboard gear” (does a guitar qualify in that? LOL).
    Thanks to all of you for a new series that is entertaining, informative and inspirational!

      Thanks Jeff! I have a bunch of Metasonix/MakeNoise/Mutable, and have a pretty aggressive Eurorack rig set up. But a walkthrough sounds like a great idea! For this track, I wanted to push the analog synth side of things, so I spent quite a bit of time in the "outside-the-box" world. I have my analog synths set up as "external instruments" with Midi Device panels in Cubase, so I'm able to control them directly from my DAW. Then, I just supplemented that with the orchestral and percussion elements (loaded up from my template). - Ari

Neils quarter note triplets are a great way to mirror the change in action during the camera turnaround with out full blown tempo change. Also, Im really digging the happy sounding I VI IV... Love love love that you are doing this series along with the 2 hour cues series with Neil. Loved your reactions to each other s work too. That's a really cool aspect of this. Ari this reminded me of a track and it's going back aways.I was curious if you have concepts or stories running through your head when you're writing example tracks that go on SoundCloud as demonstrations for products that come out. In particular I love The Hallows from intimate textures and was wondering if there was any story in your mind behind that track?

    • @Heavyocitymedia
      @Heavyocitymedia  Před 3 lety +2

      Thanks Jacob. This was a blast to do! I always find it easier to write music if I can build a mental picture/story around either the character or sequence. It's funny that you meant The Hallows! I was reading a pretty dystopian future/sci-fi book at the time and remember building a story in my head that I wanted to write to. It was a scene of a small family in a log cabin huddled around the fireplace. At 0:30s in, the scene zooms out through the glass window to the outdoors, showing the cabin in the woods surrounded by a peaceful snow. At 0:35s, the family opens the door to enjoy the snowfall, and the view pivots to them looking up at the sky. At 0:50s, it zooms out to show that the cabin, the woods, and the family are all in a biosphere on a floating asteroid, part of a cluster of hundreds of similar ones. At 1:30, the camera perspective starts to show that this cluster is what remains of Earth, with humanity living in an entirely different way. I know, this is oddly specific, but it's fun listening to it again, and having the whole story come right back! Thanks for reminding me of this!! - Ari

You really are super talented with your ability to work in such short periods of time. And that is such a fascinating concept and is super similar to a dystopian sci fi thriller/drama I am writing. Guys! What is the best template setup that is more RAM friendly?! ... On Cubase, I compared the "Separate Instrument Tracks vs. Multiple Kontakt Instances" and I found the latter saves only 2% of RAM. Love Ari's Cubase template but does it really save RAM?!

    • @Heavyocitymedia
      @Heavyocitymedia  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks Ahmad. I have a second computer running VEPro for my orchestral sounds. In VE, I have multiple Kontakt instances for each instrument type. This makes it easy for me to route audio and mix/eq each section. I prefer this workflow, since it keeps things a bit isolated, and I can easily mix the sections of the orchestra. I also split my hybrid presets up by type (ie arp/ostinato, bass, pads, leads) as their own Kontakts. I try to keep the instruments that I consider "staples" to my template in VEPro, where I will rarely change the presets. Things that I would change more often or load different instruments, I try to keep in the Cubase Session itself. This also helps to load balance the cpu overhead (not just in VE, and not just in Cubase). Hope this helps! - Ari

    • @Ahmad-Mounir44
      @Ahmad-Mounir44 Před 3 lety

      @@Heavyocitymedia Wonderful Ari! I don't have the luxury yet to use VEPro but I am planning to buy a dedicated DELL Xeon server for it up to 256GB RAM. However, I am still getting my feet wet in cinematic music and I don't wanna add complexity to my setup at the moment. I am just touching the water to see if it's cold or warm before I jump in and I take everything slowly until I get comfortable upgrading to more expensive gear. My current setup really helps me to produce tens of tracks with no issues. The only issue is my workflow which still bugging me. I have a template where each instrument track is its own Kontakt track. I am thinking to switch to multiple Kontakt instances with audio outs to midi tracks. I am currently running on 32GB and I am a happy composer who keeps learning. Thanks for your input :)

    I’m wondering if there is a plan to offer the unscored video for us to download to “work along” with the composers? It would be great to actually make attempts to recreate what they are suggesting, not just watching their workflow (helpful as that is!). I’m sure that if you also offer a discount for any specific Heavyocity VST that the composer is using that viewers would be encouraged to purchase. Thanks again for creating The Brief!

      Some did make this very comment when “The Brief” was announced in the previous video, but sadly no reply from Heavyocity to any of these requests.

      Sorry about the no reply! We licensed the footage for this episode, and we've been trying to work with the creators to see if we can work something out for you all - 🤞. We DEFINITELY want to hear your takes!

      @@Heavyocitymedia Thanks for the hopeful reply! As others have said, it is hard for composers to find suitable unscored clips to practice with, and perfectly understandable with licensed footage. 😁
