    Update: I got my usb C to display port cable. I can get a second monitor to work only in the extra thunderbolt port on the back of the dock. So I can do dual monitors but then to get my thunderbolt to 10gbps ethernet cable, I need to plug that one into the laptop.

      Just thinking... with the tranfer rates and size of some of these cards, couldn't you just dedicate one or two of the bays with card readers that just hold CF express type b cards and use those as external storage? I'm not sure how they compare to internal ssd card transfer speeds so I'm not sure you'd want to work with those files directly in apps, but they'd work as external storage anyways...

    • @deepin2u
      @deepin2u Před rokem

      first ... get the SanDisk Professional Pro-Blade Series DOCK which is modular
      Then you can use whatever CardReader/Writers you need/want.
      Then use ThunderBolt 3/4 cable in daisy chain.
      1. REPLACED those cruddy monitors with Thunderbolt (not USB-C with PD + DisplayPort, get Thunderbolt) and now the monitor can have the adapter for Thunderbolt to Ethernet.
      All issues solved. Whomever convinced you to get the MBP should've recommended ThunderBolt monitor (that also has HDMI + DisplayPort + HDMI).

    For your dual monitor setup, if you use the DisplayPort to your monitor, most newer monitors support DisplayPort daisy-chaining for multiple monitors. Also, the USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port on the back can be used to drive a display directly - if the monitor has that capability - like the new Apple Display.

      I just Data Wrangled an independent film and this is exactly what you need when you are shooting say, multicam with both RedMags and CFast as well as SD from GoPros etc. You need fast transfers so you can not just copy, but make multiple copies to multiple drives, do bit by bit verification and have time to verify the footage before turning the cards around for shooting again (in case you don't have enough cards, which can happen in independent production). The modularity is important because, they may have smaller CFast cards and larger RedMags, meaning you are offloading 2 CFast for every 1 RedMag. So the ability to select the number of reader types to eliminate bottlenecks is critical. Or if production switches to 2 RED dragons, at some point, now you may need two RedMag readers and no CFast readers. Having a computer with multiple TBolt buses is also critical for the simultaneous transfers so you can keep the data moving. This thing comes with hard mounts for a DIT cart, like Innovativ because it is really intended for DITs and Data Wranglers. This is pretty specialized niche hardware and the review should probably state that at the top.

    I do actually see the point.
    Not that I'd need this dock (right now) but for someone who has dual or triple cams on events where footage is scattered around multiple cameras having more than one card reader (e.g. 2x CFexpress & 2x SD or any other combination) can be a huge advantage.
    On the other hand though, I do understand your critique regarding the storage devices and the second HDMI port. This is an almost perfect dock for me.
    But with these restrictions this could only be like a "secondary" dock or something or having a dongle for another HDMI/DP port.
    And why not already using Thunderbolt 4?
    It would be backwards compatible and would eliminate a couple of restrictions this device may have due to Thunderbolt 3.
    But then again the next generation will most likely improve on the faults of the first gen!

    LOL! Why do people keep trying to do content creation on Macs? Then make up various excuses when it doesn't work? It's like banging your head against the wall and wondering why your forehead is bleeding. Just build yourself a PC for half the price and never have problems again...
