Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru Review: Is it worth the money?

  • Considered by many to be the crown jewel of import Sega Saturn collecting, I jump into the very, very expensive Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru (aka Psychic Killer Taromaru) and find out if it's gameplay and overall quality justify its huge price tag. Sure, we all know this game is rare as hell, but is it really worth forking over 1-month's rent just to own and play? Watch my review of Taromaru and find out!

    Great review! You are looking at $700-$1000 in 2021 for a complete copy now if you were to buy it in Japan. It actually is not too terribly hard to find, just expensive.

    I love the style of this game and all the Japanese mythology. I certainly doesn't seem worth the exorbitant price but a cool looking game nonetheless. I like hearing about these pricey collector's piece type games because I know you'll give an honest review.

      Yeah it's fun seeing if some of these ultra sought after games are even worth a damn, especially when they're worth a house payment lol

    I just finished this game on an emulator and I loved It. I have to disagree with the stiff controls being bad, because you have a lot of invincibility frames with your shield and you can pretty much avoid anything with enough practice. You can even hang in the air if you spammed it enough to avoid most ground attacks. I think generally, it really helps in decision making and makes the game more fun. Great review though 👍.

    Extremely well made video! I love finding underrated Saturn games like this recently. There are so many titles the vast majority of us missed out on in the West!

    Love the "Is it worth the money?" videos. Saw this game on a game sack episode, looked pretty cool, looked at up on ebay, then noped out xD. Hate it when you see such cool games just to be disappointed because you cant buy it and the youtuber just say its expensive, but not if its worth the money, that bother me so much. Its like there getting 10000€ per month so they can buy something like that without much thought.

      I plan on doing more. I really enjoy checking out those rare, holy grail games and seeing if their all hype or they're actually really good. And yeah, some of these people who have crazy collections with tons of rare, expensive games seem to care more about collecting them for rarity than whether their actually any fun to play. I'm a firm believer that a game is only worth whatever enjoyment you can get out of it while playing it. These are games after all, not Picassos on a wall :p

      @@wigglesarcade8261 When you want help I can give suggestions on rare, expensive japanese PS1 Games that are little to not known. One example would be GERMS: NERAWARETA MACHI, alone the Cover is weird as fck

    In my opinion games such as this provide a valid reason to burn games. Not everyone wants to collect expensive rare CDs. If you just want to experience this game it won't cost you much at all. It's still a great game, though.

      That would be amazing! Although I'm worried Sega wouldn't want to put in the extra legwork to track down the rights holder and negotiate having this game included.

      @@wigglesarcade8261 oooo yeah now you mention it. surely since they made a deal with Disney on their Genesis mini for the mickey mouse game they could do it for this too right?? ah well i'll try and save up then in that case as it would be nice to have :)

    Going into it with no expectations (and playing it for free) it pretty fun, but for some reason I can't recall most of what I played it just didn't leave much of an impact.

      This is definitely accurate. Its certainly no Symphony of the Night, but as long as you aren't paying hundreds for it, it's definitely a pretty good time.

    Gorgeous looking and sounding game with some really interesting game play mechanics. Today there's no excuse to not at least try it out using a "creative method". But even for collectors it's a nice collector's item, imho.

    • @wigglesarcade8261
      @wigglesarcade8261  Před 3 lety +2

      It's definitely collectible given it's obscurity, but as someone who has always collected to play its a pretty hard sell even though it is a pretty cool, fun game.

      @@wigglesarcade8261 haha yeah I know what you mean. It’s a nice game but at the price is for collectors and preservationists only. Me, I’m happy with my terraonion mode now for the most part. It would be nice to see a full on remake of this tbh, where they fixed all the gameplay quirks your mentioned
