This is so true! 2 days ago I had a breakup with my person, because he refuses to accept help to let go of his addictions. He doesn’t want the help and he doesn’t want to get better so there’s nothing I can do anymore. He was starting to behave like I’m irritating him by being there and trying to help him. You’re right, we can’t fix anyone, they need to make that choice themselves 🤗
I'm going through something similar but it has been dragging on for months (events out of our control). It's so hard to watch addiction.
I ended up with addiction issues that I did not have previously to the relationship that had toxic hidden lies… energy does,t lie and addiction is an attempt to regulate… you can’t fix it for someone but perhaps you can find compassion and try to understand it.. because we all have them, but substances are judged more harshly.. so

I had to walk away from my marriage 26 years ago because I couldn't keep watching the man I loved slowly killing himself with alcohol. He eventually pulled himself out of it 8 years later - but we stayed in contact and he died last November.
I too am living through this experience as well. His unhealed suppressed wounding fed upon by a darkness he has yet to face within himself led him to create unsafety for me forcing me to let him go. His projections and meanness is painful. I’m no longer carrying the burdens, we will Rise!
I'm going through the same thing 13yrs with him and he threw it all away over alcohol and started to abuse me, now I have full custody of our daughter. I hope he drowns in regret later on.

After extreme burnout I am now on a path of healing becoming a practitioner in mental health, it has been an effective therapy to rebuild inner resilience. Yeah I've just separated from my ex who is a covert narcissist and sociopath (by the definition, not just using it as a derogatory term). We also worked together, so again spot on with the reading. I had been seeing for the time leading up to our break up that I had to give up on any idea that I could help him whether in personal, building business, money management, integrity, emotional wounds, etc. He didn't want my help and didn't want to change, even though he created his own problems and crisis every single day. Yet since the break up, I have been having old friends call out of nowhere to check on me and I haven't made any social media posts indicating personal issues. I've also been meeting new friends quite easily who have been extremely wise and emotionally supportive beyond what I imagined. And family too, in surprising ways. Feeling gratitude even through the storm it's been. And my bestie. Glad she didn't give up on me when I got lost in this toxic relationship.

My family has been falling apart recently, it’s a long drawn out story but it’s a side effect of my grandma dying four years ago. My birthday before she got sick, I was doing really bad. I was not living the way she raised me to be. She showed up at my friends house looking for me to give me a birthday gift. She bought me a decorative pillow among other things. It had a picture of the beach on it. She told me it reminded her of me. I am still grieving and really struggling to defend her in her honor. I have been having a hard time recently.

Me and him are cut and dry opposites but his close mindedness and the neglect and lack of effort I’ve had from him is something he has been owning now and making right.
