I lost a riptide wing in battle today, Grav spam and D-Weapons killed about 1 a turn. My local gaming group is highly competitive so bringing a tide wing is almost mandatory in my games >_>

Question- is it possible that much of the original power armor designs of the tau are actually stolen STC designs from human worlds lost during the dark age of technology via a converted human world fallen to the greater good?
By power armour you mean battlesuits? I doubt it for two reasons:
1- From what I know Tau have evolved on a world that was never touched by human civilasation, so chance for STC's enabling construction of advaced war machines anywhere near them seems rather slim.
First contact just before horus heresy when they were noticed by a scout ship, before the arrival of the etehrials. next time smpire encountered them they allready had most of the arnament and technology we know them for.
2- They represent totally diffrent design philosophy than mechs used by imperium with Imperium's large heavy armoured death machines, and Tau's much nimbler, faster designs. Moreover human mechs (not counting warhound) are very humanoid in shape, with 2-jointed legs, while Tau's mechs are celarly based on their own biology as well with 3- jointed legs and hoove-like feet.
