  • From the moment they arrive, to the time they leave with a customer; the small animals in our care are made to feel at home every step of the way.
    Watch our video detailing their journey, including how they're 6-step health checked, settled in to their new environment, feeding, sexing, daily care routines, given veterinary care if needed and the training our colleagues go through. We ensure that all pets are cared for in accordance with the 5 welfare needs, and are proud to work with the RSPCA.

      Pebsay Paine lmao ur so thick they are so many animals that live in pet shops and in the back off the store the cages are small because they are on display for people to see them they can’t have the exact cage they need as they would take up to much room in a pet shop there job is to sell them and educate people on the RIGHT size cages

    • @ellahuxtable5959

      Ella Huxtable firstly if u are wanting to get a certain animal then it’s YOU’RE job to do all off the re-search and find out all off that so u can’t blame the staff due to ur lack off research they do tell u that If u do buy a cage for them then it’s only TEMPORARY as they will be babies then u should get a bigger enclosure for the rest off the animals life not every pet store can simply sit down with u and go threw step by step off what to do for this animal and how to care for it most people who do want a animal do tones off research off this certain animals and all they go to pets at home for is the pet as they will already be an enclosure set up at there home

    To everyone who complained about this video - Actually, that Watchdog episode on pets at home was done 3 YEARS AGO. Pets at homes standards have since greatly improved! Just because you've only been to one store doesn't mean you can judge the whole company. From the sounds of things, the shops mentioned were badly managed. I have been to EXCELLENT pets at home shops and yes, they sell tiny cages and sell lonely gerbils. But Pets at home also sells big cages too - the range of cages is superb. It also has very helpful staff and when I went to buy my hamster and gerbils, they got my hamsters sex correct and when I wasn't happy with the choice of gerbils, they brought a huge, spacious gerbillarium over to me to let me choose from some different gerbils. All my animals I have bought from pets at home have been healthy, lovely little animals.
    So listen, CZcamsrs: PETS AT HOME IS A FRANCHISE. THIS MEANS THAT EACH STORE IS INDIVIDUALLY MANAGED. If you find a terrible pets at home store - try going to another one. Chances are, it will be better managed and the animals will be in better health.

      Its sh*t they get animals from mills. Keep rabbits and hamsters in tiny cages. They keep syrian hamsters together whoch are solitary and will kill wach other. If an animal is sick they leave it. And have you ever seen the back?

And 2 days after that happened we went to the shop and complained and just took them of us... DX

    I just got two albino guineapigs from pets at home yesterday and one of them is drastically underweight, had crust around her eyes and her nose, she’s doing well now and is ravenous for food so I have been feeding her loads of greens and some peppers aswell as her pellets, she seems happier with me than when she was in the store, also I saw a hamster in a tiny glass tank cage, like the one on this video, it was stuck right inbetween two pieces of metal and gnawing at the key hole to get out. :/ if your pets really come first get them bigger enclosures, and my last guinea pig and rabbit I got from there were underweight and they died too

    I once adopted a baby Guinea pig from here and she died 6 days later. It absolutely broke my heart, she was only 9 weeks old. When I went back and told them they offered another Guinea pig (free of charge), a refund for the one that died and a free vet check up for the other Guinea pig I had caged the baby with. It doesn't make up for the heartbreak or the short lived life of that poor little girl. It's absolutely appalling, as this has happened to my friends rabbit and another friends fish. The breeders they get the animals from are horrific as well.

    • @JessPritch
      @JessPritch Před 3 lety

      Well you should adopt because if you buy from pets at home you are supporting pet mills where they mass produce the animals without caring about their health and genetics, because of this they are prone to health issues and aggression. So when you buy pets form pets at home, you are supporting that cause which means more animals need to be bred.

    Since I’ve owned many animals in my lifetime, I’ve learnt that a lot of the things PetsatHome employees say are kinda bs and so I’d like to work their and actually give people the proper information especially to small animal owners!
    Nearly ALL of their cages are way to small too!
    And they’re pricey sometimes 🙃🙃
    But apart from that, I’ve owned many hamsters from them.. Only one of them had a health problem which I managed to fix.. Apart from that, never had a problem.

I like mine, but some of the fish has ammonia, swim bladder and some were you know. dead... HOWEVER!!! I do mini self health checks and overall I would rate pets at home 9.89/10 because the fish need a tiny but more care. mostly the fancy goldfish. I have three which are very healthy and I've raised them as babies!!! they're still alive and bubbly. I've seen many bad reports but it depends where like. my local one is smaller but better than the other one that's 1-2 hours away. I could jabber away more but people might get annoyed of how long this is😂💜

    Funny how stores which go through such rigorous training still don't know how to sex their animals properly.
    We have to return a rat we have grown to love because she was wrongly sold to us alongside a male. We cannot have litters and we don't know if they are even related. So unfair on us and the animals, to be uprooted again over a simple mistake.

  • @aperson5311
    @aperson5311 Před 3 lety +1

    9 months training my ass, all this company does is send false knowledge into the minds of young children that don’t know any better and their parents just don’t know anything about the animal they’re getting. People saying pet stores like this are ethical when it the animal isn’t sold it gets its neck snapped in the back. Someone I know at a young age got 2 rabbits from pets at home turns out one had ringworm and the other was extremely sick. And roomy cages? Rabbits and guinea pigs don’t belong in cages like that. I’ve recently adopted 5 rats from my local animal shelter that holds small animals not only mammals. I’ve named them names that suit them pretty well Norman, Dobby, Piggy, squishy and Wilbur. Wilbur is extremely skittish and is aggressive to me and his brothers so I thought it would be for the best to put him in the hands of someone that can handle him. I couldn’t find anyone so I thought long and hard about if pets at home would take him. Then I thought I would rather put him out on a field than get his head smashed on a desk. I’ve been putting in work end he is now getting better. Don’t buy from this store it’s extremely horrible what they do to these small animals. I’ve seen many dead fish floating in a fish tank before and thought I would come back tomorrow and see if they would do anything. Surprise they didn’t I asked about it and they said they would look into cleaning it in a couple hours or so. That isn’t looking after animals that’s just plain laziness.

      @QueenBitch-bj9ds That’s a lot of animals “knowledgeable staff” are adopting. I will not be keeping my “lies” and hate to myself when they still promote terrible cages which are death traps as well as promote food and toys which can cause blockages as well as other problems for the animal. These animals are kept in extremely small not enriching cages. They are stressed out as they have no privacy and I refuse to support them. Not to mention their insane prices I haven’t seen one good enclosure for an animal they were marketing it towards and that includes fish.

    Pets at home are better than many other chain pet shops but certainly not all the independent ones! I got my hamster from Birnies in Elgin where she had her own cage, aspen shavings, an 8 inch wheel, plastic hut, tube and plenty chews toys and food all to herself. Often many of the hamsters are dead before they even get to P@H. You dont know where they come from either. However, hamsters arent nescecarily pets for children and usually the complaints are from families with a bitey or aggressive hamster. Hamsters must be tamed and looked after properly with a nice big cage in order to be friendly towards you.

    I don't know where this pets at home is but the ones near me are quite good, clean and tidy and the animals look healthy. But the problem is most likely when you get a animal for here they become poorly and eventually die way to early. My friend got a hamster that lasted for a month and I got 2 guinea pigs one lasted a month with us and the other lasted 11 months at least. So possibly there health checks ain't the best but please don't let this stop you buying them. Also their pet items and food are all well and good. This is just my opinion :)

After bunny I had to get him a friend bambi also from pets@home and after him two guinea pigs. You do not look after your rats! My local pets at home has a group of rats in a small glass tank, rats should not be housed in glass tanks due to their extremely sensitive respiratory systems. They should also not be in such small areas and they appear to have very little to do. They need at least an hour a day outside of their cage, something they don't seem to be getting. Your pets at home rat nuggets are not suitable for them at all, they are basically the equivalent of a human eating McDonald's for every meal, not exactly nutritious in my opinion. The bedding you are using seems to be exceptionally dusty, which is not good for them in any way and I have seen employees selling rats on their own and saying that they will be fine living singularly. It even says in your own care guide NOT to house them alone. You need to make some changes because this is just one animal that you're treating in disgusting conditions, let alone the others.

Who, let's be honest, are usually parents of young children who don't research small pet care and don't want a lot of bother or have the pet take up much space. The lovely lady who was working said no one wants him as he's very nerves and doesn't like being touched. She said if he's still here at the end of the week she was going to take him home. I wasn't just going to be another person that said no just because he's a little harder to handle than the others. I bought him then and there. He has been the best hamster I've had and I've had over 10. He knows his name (Biscuit) and will come when I call him. He will follow me everywhere. And he likes to sleep in my hands. I go to pets at home for all my hamsters and everything I need.
