Interview from April 28, 2021. - Hudba
WOW! Peter and Adam. You are total pros! Being interviewed by you is equivalent to Miles Davis asking me to join his band...
Thank you Mr. Carter for sharing your time, wisdom, and stories. Looking forward to #2 and beyond! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
one of the greatest compliments I've ever read, killin episode!
one of the greatest compliments I've ever read, killin episode!
This interview is a great lesson for a musician, to understand jazz and musicianship, on a way deeper level.
We are lucky to get an inside look from this jazz master. Great stuff!
Damn Ron, you are such a class act..... even in 2021, its almost unfathomable.
"If you want some roots man, there's a farmers market about four blocks away..." Legend 😁
That cracked me up. xD
So respectful how you are not interrupting him.
YESSSSS!!
@@RonCarterBassist love you man!
@@RonCarterBassist I always refer to your bridge for Footprints and have to fight with too many who follow the realbook BS version, I heard the recording long before the books and it was always a great influence, thanks so much, because you trust inspiration and innovation it’s helped anyone with an ear to try to do the same.
It is an honor to hear from the legend and master himself. There are not many around and it is a relief to be reminded of the fact that a giant like Ron Carter is sharing so much.
absolutely, very well said 👍🏼
From an American ex-pat living and teaching in Japan for 38 years now (and a life-long fan of Jazz and Brazilian sounds) ... Ron Carter is a legend over here too. But as an applied linguist, I can't help but to be dazzled by the psychological correlations between transcribing jazz, actually playing it, and teaching English as a foreign language. Oh, and hearing that he was asking questions to Pat and Herbie, will be heading to Ron's channel right after this. Domo arigato guys!
His mind is amazing, such agility, such insight. Thank you again, Adam & Peter. Please do some more featured artists.
Will do. Thanks for tuning in!
Ron Carter, a thinking musician’s thinking musician. Excellente!
My oldest brother is a retired music teacher. He would frequently tell his students, “ thinking is allowed! “
Such a well spoken, intelligent master just spitting knowledge
Thank You Mr Ron Carter! For many Years I searched for the value of transcription and decided, also long ago, that it would be better to listen to a whole piece of music 5000 times in order to catch a glimpse of what is actually happening. Context is important! People listen differently, and every day is different, anyway.
Thank you Ron for ... everything, and Adam and Peter thank you for presenting this conversation.
My pleasure totally...
Awesome to hear from a living legend! Humble and insightful as well as inspiring. I understand what he said about not always playing the root but still making it fit within the chord structure. Truly gifted! I pray he is blessed with many more years of making great music. Thank you Sir! 🙏🙏👏👏
I grew up listening to Ron Carter as a DRUMMER and have always loved his lines, his sound, his presence, his harmonic creativity etc. One of my favorite recordings of his is ETUDES with Bill Evans, Tony Williams and Art Farmer.
GRATEFUL that you guys put this one out there. #ThanksForAnAmazingInterview
Awe and respect for Ron Carter! 🙇🏻♂️🎻 Gratitude for sharing all those insights and amazing stories!
I agree, a generous maestro musically and with his words.
Whenever I need a meditation in patience or servant leadership, I listen to Herbie Hancock. When Ron Carter is involved, this lesson is exalted to the highest level.
"servant leadership" - love that 🙏🏼
@@pianopeter Both you and Adam demonstrate this kind of leadership every single day! As a professional trainer I draw constant inspiration from the creativity and enthusiasm you bring to instructional design. I am a better musician (and person) by living vicariously through your brilliant performances and jumping in shoulder to shoulder with you in live practice sessions (Adam's GPS's are incredible). Nothing like experiencing the learning curve together. Awesome, awesome, Thanks so much!
This is one of the greatest conversations I've ever heard. Pure gold! Thank you.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
That was such a great and insightful conversation. It has opened another dimension for me for having been listening to this music for almost 40 decades.
I thank you very very much for your great work.
Thanks for tuning in, and for your words 🙏🏼
Absolutely amazing. Stuff like this is the silver lining of a really horrible situation. So great to hear from such a LEGEND!
My Funny Valentine 64 Lincoln Center is when I as teen came to understand A) Miles Davis was a Genius. B) that the 2nd Quintet was music on a higher level altogether when they were ON. and C) Herbie's solo on My Funny Valentine will forever be my favourite set of moments in the recorded history of Jazz so far.
What a in-depth conversation with the great and humble Mr. Ron Carter...
Thank you for this, Ron. This puts you head and antlers above the pack. There are so many other issues like time and who keeps it but harmony and changes is a great place to start.
Great platform. Thanks Mr Carter for sharing 🙏
What a great interview questions and comments not normally discussed. Thank you!
(P & A, Of course you guys did this interview!) Ron Carter! Way more that just kickin' ass. He has a plan! Great interview!
This is a beautiful conversation. I'm all for bringing Mr. Carter back whenever you can. Thanks for this and all the other thought provoking stuff you're putting out there.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you for sharing this conversation with a master.
It's truly our pleasure!!!!
This is an incredible interview. Thank you!!
Ron - definitive master, professional and gentleman!
Wow, what a great interview. Thanks, Ron
I can't believe this just happened, what a legend
Very informative interview.
Thank you so much for it.
Thank you ! This is wonderful ... so happy to have found your site via Jazz on the Tube !
Great job landing this. Your channel is having an impact on so many of us. And he offered to come on again ?!?! Amazing.
Thank you! We're gonna try not to pester Mr. Carter....but to be honest, I've already emailed him to schedule the next one...😀
Any time...
What a great interview, congratulations!
Enlightening, what a thoughtful interview. It helped me remember dreams that I’ve had about reality..haha
Great Historicalgreat moment in Real-Time with the Great Ron Carter. You guys created a great moment in Real-Time thanks.
It is good to hear from America past greatness that set the foundation of Jazz music because we do not know how long that we are gone to have them.
Thank you for this wisdom and insight Mr. Carter
Great just fantastic interview!
Thanks a lot.
Wow, what an interview. Thanks. 🙏🏼
Proud of y'all making this happen
Excellent!!…I wish I could say more…Excellent!!
SUCH AN HONOR !!!! THANK YOU SIR.
an honor indeed!
That was really cool...I luv to hear what I call behind the music....didnt hurt having my most favorite bass player of all time.. 😎
15:05 golden!
Goddamn, what a great man! (And bassist).
Great interview.
Great interview
GREAT discussion.
"Too many letters."😂😂😂😂
Fantastic! Would love to see this edited to be able to see Mr. Carter's reactions as you guys are asking the question. Thank you to you all. Cheers, D
Wow! I’m so glad I didn’t miss Ron Carter, thanks you guys for being so real with Jazz!
Too cool!
OH MY GOODNESS!!!!
That bit from 23:40 onwards is such a brilliant story. A sophisticated bass line, and Miles enquiries with an open mind.
Where I jam, we would have rolled our eyes, looked at each other thinking, "bassist playing the wrong note again" :)
Would love to hear Mr. Carter’s thoughts about his time on Wes’ sessions
On not engaging in analytical conversation and the adventurous spirit of performing with Miles and Herbie: “We trusted ourselves to remember important events on our own, and results we hoped to make happen the next night” - Ron Carter @ 20:45
This is ACE people, Music Forever........
posted a day before the 84th anniversary of his birth... (IMO easily looking 10-15 years younger, and sounding even younger)
He talks like he plays bass. It's interesting to learn how on the edge improvisations are, and not involving sitting around talking about music theory. Improvisation is being at work and knowing how to do the job.
❤❤❤❤❤
👌
Rotterdam, Holland (10/30/1967): czcams.com/video/SzcW5Sx7CwQ/video.html
was wayne at these gigs? He doesn't mention him
he even calls it the miles davis quartet? Its like its intentionally leaving wayne out, and he was as important as anyone in this band.
Of course! But he wasn't part of the rhythm section
No treble?
😀
It seems to me like they omit Wayne from the conversation, do him and Mr. Carter have beef or something? He even referred to the band as a Quartet several times.
Yeah, I noticed that too. I remember several interviews with Herbie saying that Wayne and Joni Mitchell started talking music and philosophy, all Herbie could do was hang on and enjoy the ride. Just noticed Ron did mention Wayne at 25:11.
No beef at all. Mr. Shorter is a little under the weather. And I sometimes jokingly refer to the "quartet" as me, Herbie, Wayne and Tony"
Cartography, not Chartography. Oops!
Ron's transcription book is actually Chartography, I made same mistake in an outtake!
came here expecting to hear an interview with Ron Carter but i see you guys would rather spend your time trying to be cute...
Quit yapping and get to it
Ron Carter is just overrated. There are dozens of bass players better than him.
@Spalien Acecraft you could probably up that to $1,000,000. Ricardo here probably doesn't even play an instrument, with a comment like that.
