  • The final installment in our guide to longlining. The first five minutes deals with some extra brake info and a "timelapse" of our rigging process. Walking advice begins around 6:00. Special thanks to Ben and James for their starring roles.

I was so inspired by this video series. Today me and my wife build a 30 ft slack line in our yard! Thanks for what your doing for your sport

Thank you Adam! I've been bouncing on a Gibbon jibline kit for about a year now, and I've been looking to get into longlining next season, but didn't know where to begin. This series answered every question I had, and then some. Thanks so much for sharing your valuable knowledge!
I can't believe someone actually cut a line when someone was walking on it! What a jerk. And that shirtless guy at the end looking for a fight seemed like a real jerk, too. Good job staying cool. Peace!

my favorite part is at 4:35 when you say "another guy with a motocross helmet and some sort of brace or cast on his leg also came over" and all you see is a little girl on roller skates and a bike helmet.
Thanks for another great video, ive been at this for years now and its always nice to find out there are things you dont know about a sport you love. Highlines are my bread and butter, but long lines have always been the bane of my existence. Your hands no hips idea worked great first time.

Very good video Adam! I always watch your video, regardless of the fact that I have been slacklining for a while, in case I learn something new. Very detailed; I can tell you love what you do! Slack life!

Totally saw that guy the other day! (The guy at the end of the video talking about fist fighting at the church). I was slacklining and he went on this cussing tangent about nothing really.

Great videos Adam! I really like the Eddy. I have no dyno, but I rigged 600 foot of spider silk with about 8 ft of sag with a 5:1 pulley system the other day with no slippage. I use 11mm PMI access pro. (I generally use a 9:1 with lines over 500ft and the Eddy works great)

Basically the advantage to the reeving is just that you can embed a brake (on a twist shackle) and have the handle point down for release. I am not a huge fan of embedding brakes and pulleys, but that's just my personal preference. It works for Ben, so I wanted to show some other options besides exactly what I do.

Looks like Green Lk... I lived a few miles from there, on 45th, about a year ago. Nice area, albeit, very busy [and bussling with church-going fist fighters]... Seems like a lot of time and gear, but if you love something, its all worth it. Its the same way for my thing, technical diving. Good detailed vids though.

thank you for these guide to longlining videos im getting a long line for christmas iv been slackling on a gibbon double rachet for a while and iv been really wantingto get into longlining thanks to you i now know everything i will need to get started and since iv only walked 2 inch webbing do you thing it would be smart to not get a whole tensoning system at the start and instead just use the primitive setup till i can sucsessfully walk that everytime? or should i just spend alot of money all

Hello, I just discovered your videos and they are great. Have you stopped making them? Are you still gonna make those videos on softpoint and webbing? Also, are there any plans on a highline series of videos? Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge

awesome videos, Adam. is it possible to use the primitive 4 biner/2 rap ring set up for a 100ft line?

    • @hylandmarkle4050
      @hylandmarkle4050 Před 8 lety

+Greg Welsh It's possible. I've used the primitive method to set up lines around 45 meters, like 150 feet. Any longer and it honestly just becomes dangerous to de-tension. My advice, however, is to use the 2 biner method with a third and fourth to make a multiplier. Essentially, run the webbing under itsself in both biners, that way there are two breaks, for two biner method. It's more redundant than one friction break and the high tension in longer lines is such that that redundancy is important. For multiplier, clip third biner to anchor and girth hitch (or whatever) the next biner to the pull strand to make the multiplier. There are vids on that, it's rather simple to set up, hard to explain. BE CAREFUL when you de-tension it! When you un-do the first break (which is where the walking, non-tensioning part of the line is) it won't de-tension, like it normally does. The back break now holds all the tension. When it pops it POPS, so LET GO real quick and make sure there's no biners or anything attached to hit you. Maybe even running a re-direct would be a good call haven't experimented with that. Hope that all makes sense, feel free to respond if you have any questions and ill clarify.

Why not softpoint this line? I'm sure you must have a line grip!

  • @AddieBurtle

Next two major video projects are to do a softpointing vid, and to review about a dozen types of webbing :)

Hello, thanks for the videos. I would like to know your opinion are 16 mm shackles necessary for this or it can be done safely with, let's say 50 kn steel D carabiners? I managed to find Van Beest 16 mm shackles here in Belgrade but I can buy two Singing Rock's 50 kn steel carabiners for one shackle. That is my dilemma. Any suggestions? Thanks.
