Hello Sandra! Props to you for undertaking this beautiful art form. It has been a while since you posted this! How is your ballet journey coming along 😃?
Claudia if you replied to this I would go crazy 😜 I joined ballet as a baby and then quit cos I had no interest in it. Then I fell in love with it again at aged 10. I went to the perfect studio for me. I was part of a small class which meant I got more one on one attention and caught up quickly. However just before our grade 3 exam our studio closed devastatingly. I tried a few studios and gated them all. So I gave up looking. But then in September I rediscovered your channel and it inspired me to get back into it. So on Wednesday I went to a new studio. I adored it and my best friend from my old studio was in the same class. I’ve joined at quite a bad time as the others are doing their exam in a few weeks however my teacher was so impressed with my ability to pick up and my technique that she is allowing me to skip and move up to grade 5 with the other girls which means I’ll be starting pointe work!!!! This is honestly thanks to you and your videos. They helped me learn terminology and keep my technique up. Thanks so much Claudia ❤️💓❤️💓 Edit: oh my gosh thank you so much Claudia for replying and thanks for all the likes xxx
YES! I can't wait to go en pointe, I'm in 5th grade, in a class with two other girls, aged 9 and 13, my instructor says he wants to get me en pointe asap so he's working with me on barre a lot and fixing my mistakes to make sure im ready for pointe, then he will work with on center I believe but are you en pointe yet? Good luck with your future dancing!
Adult beginner here and this is the perfect video for me to use for practice while between classes. Very informative and easy to follow along. Thanks Claudia!
Adult beginner here. Thank you so much for this! I have a foot injury and my podiatrist recommended taking a barre class to build up my muscles again and I never realised how much of a work out it is! Will never underestimate ballet again
Another adult beginner here. More like this, please! I can only get to one class a week, so being able to practice between classes will make such a difference. I love your teaching style.
Yes! I think that is a brilliant thought! To do a follow up as a second part of this tutorial. I've been dancing for several years. Yet, it's enjoyable to follow along as you clearly emphasize the positions of our head in alignment to our porte de bras, the stance of our hips and leg muscles all properly coordinate with the execution of each step . We sometimes we do these exercises so often, we get a bit sloppy and run thru them to quickly.
Hello Claudia, false adult beginner from France here. Thank you so much for what you're doing, your amazing up-beat spirit and generosity. I've just tried this follow along today, it was brilliant ! Don't hesitate to do some more. Catherine.
Thank you Claudia!! I used to dance 6 hours a week until last year when I had a serious accident and had to stop, but my physio said today that I could go back to ballet basics to work up my strength again and this video is exactly what I need!
Hello Miss Dean, I have so enjoyed you beginner lessons.I particularly appreciate how you teach the technical aspect and review that before each new segment.I am 53 have always wanted to dance ans started at 50!!!I am hoping you put together some more beginner lessons!!!! Thank you again!!!!🤗
Adult coming back to Ballet here. It's my second day doing this barre sequence. I will do it 'till I get it right, so I can move to your intermediate video and so on...Thank you so much for this channel!
i really appreciate these barre exercises. returning to basic ballet after YEARSSSS to help my foundation before going into college as a dance major. feel free to post as many beginner exercises as you want
I have my grade 3 ballet exam tomorrow and I’m so nervous but you have helped me get better with technique and my ballet teacher gives me hardly any corrections. The only thing I’m not okay at is the made up exercises depending on what she choreographs because I’m not great at picking up. I really want to do pointe but you do that grade 5 at my school and I’m already 15 and have to leave when I’m 18 unless I go to the college but I only take one style of dance so the college won’t be good for me. So I’m afraid I’ll never get to dance on pointe like I’ve always dreamed of. What makes it worse is my friend goes to ballet and at her school they let her do pointe in grade 4. So she’s started and it makes me want to start more. Hopefully I pass this exam and in a years time I’ll do grade 4 and then get to do pointe
Hello Caitlin! I can relate to craving pointe work. As long as you are preparing with impecable technique, waiting won’t be a problem in the long run. After all, you want to be able to show your artistry through amazing technique instead of showcasing a bunch of technical vices 😉 Just make sure the wait is worth it through solid technique. Often times we don’t know exactly what that is so if you are still feeling frustrated and want help just reach out!
@@outsidemej thank you so much. Although I commented this over a year ago this helped. I’m going to do my grade 4 exam in 2 weeks and I’m really excited for it to try to perform. My ballet teacher said my performance was amazing and doesn’t give me too many corrections so I just feel really prepared. And nothings changed I’m still just as bad at made up exercises but hopefully when I turn like 18 or 19 I can start pointe but is that too late?
@@ChaoticCaitlin1 not at all 🙌🏼✨ as long as you are developing your technique correctly, your own personal time for pointe work is the right time 😉 For example, there are ballet competitions where at any age you can choose wether you will perform on demi or pointe and the judges will focus on seamless technique that allows your artistry to come through! Congratulations on your last year’s journey 🥳 Go get that grade 4 exam crushed!!!! 💫
You are my morning exercise everyday during this isolation period. Teaching has kept me so busy 12-13 hours a day plus getting older. I really needed o dance again. Day 3 and my balance is better. Bless you.
I danced for fifteen years and had to stop for college. After taking last year off I've since come back to dance but this time to teach. Your videos are helping me so much both so I can get back into the groove of dancing again and so I have content I can use on my dancers. I appreciate your work so much, thank you for doing what you do!
You did a fantastic job of providing relevant commentary on form--it's hard when you don't have a teacher to "correct" you in class. I'm trying to "come back" after a long pandemic period of relative inactivity. I was so weak that I couldn't do anything without pain, not even what I used to do for warmups. This was fun, and has also made knee pain that'd just appeared from this week's "prehab" exercises disappear. I used to do a ballet set by myself 1-3 days a week, but I really love your videos and plan to continue to follow along with them! Eventually, when I'm able to go back into a class, I'll still be following your classes on my days off. Thank you! And thank you for reminding me why I love dance and ballet
Thank you so much for doing just the Barre because I haven't danced in over 6 years and I always loved doing the Barre do I'm glad to have an opportunity to do it again
Thank you Claudia!!! This is so perfect for adults like me! I danced all through my childhood and teenage years, but stopped after university. I still love ballet though and watch all your videos! It's so fun to get to dance with you! 😊❤️
Thank you very very very much! I've learned a lot. You are the best! In my opinion only professionals who have a true gift for what they do can give away great tips as you do, it makes a lot of difference to adults beginners online. Your love to ballet and pleasure and ability teaching it, inspire and get us many levels up in technique and drive to carry on learning. Best wishes and greetings from Brazil.
I hope you've got plans for a beginner centre soon...this one is really helpful for me because I'm coming back from *really* severe (non dance-related) injuries, and I haven't been cleared to do grand plies or doing single-leg squats or plies on my injured side yet.
Hi Claudia, could you do a video on which muscles you need to stretch and strengthen to transition from 3rd to 5th position -or to get from 5th to flat 5th. And what your top tips are? I know it's about turnout, but I think there must be more to it because I can get decent turn out en l'air but I've never had a good 5th.
So many beginner videos are absolutely too hard or in realness intermediate with a ballerina who does everthing so high. This is a real beginner barre. Thank you!!
Thank you! This is perfect practice for at home in between classes. Great pacing and easy to follow along. I would love to see some other routines for beginners!
Thank you so much for this! I used to dance and I absolutely loved it, but five years ago I had to quit. I'm hoping to be able to start again in a year or two, though, and I'm so excited for that and have wanted to start getting in shape again. Yesterday I found your intermediate Barre and couldn't quite make it through, but I was able to do this one just fine! Hopefully in a week or two I can work back up to that intermediate Barre!
This is excellent & by far the best beginner’s/novice’s video I have found. (Useful for getting back into Novice level ballet after, in my case, a 30-year break)!
Hi Claudia, Thank you so much for giving comments on how to do these movements properly and how to think about them as we do them. I’ve been to many ballet classes but I still don’t know which toe to put the weight over or how the hips should sit etc. . However, when you do the Centre classes could you do them with you in front of us like a real class so we see you from behind. It is so hard to know which arm and which leg when we watch you from the front facing us....you are turning and switching feet and it would be so nice to be able to follow you as though we are standing behind you and doing the movements with you as you are doing it. It so hard to watch the phone and to follow and try to get what you are doing. You are great and generous with your love of ballet. Thanks so much.
Would love to see some more beginner tutorials - barre and also centre exercises! I got to grade 5 when I was younger, but after a few years off I am getting back into dancing. These videos are great to do at home between classes!
I haven't taken a ballet class since I was thirteen--I'm thirty-one, so that was eighteen years ago--but I just did the first eight-and-a-quarter minutes of this (finished the battement glissés, which I messed up spectacularly), and that was all I could handle--and I'm someone who dances regularly (a mix of a lot of things, including ballet)! If I keep doing this, I'll be in really good shape by the time the pandemic ends. Also, it's really obvious that my right side is my weaker side.

Hiii Claudio can you make a vid of what to pack for a summer intensives I’m thinking going for one over the summer 🙂
Please do more adult barre (esp. petits battements) and centre while we're all in lockdown!
Claudia❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😄

Please can you do a video for terminology?? That would be such a great help 🤞
Hey Claudia!

(When knees are bent they should be well in line with the middle of the foot). Most beginners of course have nowhere near the ballet dancer’s turn out, but prob only about 45 degrees.

Might it be safer to say "pull up through the legs to straighten the knees " ? Just sayin' ;-) Cheers!
