From album "Oddech wymarłych światów" (en. "Breath of extinct worlds") songs: "Bramy żądz" (Gates of lust), "Porwany Obłędem" (Possessed by Madness). This is best album in my opinion if you would like to listen to the one whole album. 3. From album "Bastard" - "Zawieszony sznur" ("Hanging rope" my favourite song!), "Piwniczne widziadła" (Basement phantoms) 4. From album "...Róże miłości najchętniej przyjmują się na grobach" - song Odi profanum vulgus. I dont like this album very much, but the one song is great. 5. There are also albums: "Ballady" (en. Ballads - more slower, melancholic songs, maybe not so interesting for non polish people), "Szydercze zwierciadło" (I like it but maybe not so great for others 2 i 3 is a must - really great peaces with lot of fantastic thrash metal riffs and compositions, but they are only in Polish. But beware. There was a conflict and the band was split, so there are two "Kat" now and one of them is very weak. So you can find a few bad albums under this name. The one listed by me are original Kat albums, so better stick to them.

Never heard of Drudkh before, very happy to having listened all, some familiar, some not. My personal favourites (or at least my head started banging the keyboard unvoluntarily) 1991 and 2009. Now onto searching more of Drudkh... Well done Sir!

After listening to this, it seems like black metal got better and just keeps getting better overall. You did not even choose a lot of really awesome bands and most were more 'mainstream' in black metal terms, but still this genre is clearly progressing and becoming better. Although it seems to do well when cross-pollinating with other genres, I don't think "pure" death metal is similarly improving on average year after year.
I very much got the impression from this video that once the 90's were over, Black Metal was too and now it's just variations in stuff that's 20 years old.

Mayhem’s 2019 album was pretty damn good too.

Nice stuff! I have to say, though, that you covered mostly the "orthodox" side of black metal, with a few exceptions of course. I would recommend, if you haven't already, to check out the "post" black metallers, the Cascadian circle, the French and the Icelanders, most definitely! P.S. What we learned today is that black metal is 8 out of 10 in the Phrygian mode :P

No songs from the DmDs-era of Mayhem??! I mean "Freezing Moon" and "Buried By Time and Dust" were composed by Euronymous himself in 1989 which is really goddamn early in terms of actual black metal. Those riffs alone, especially the tremolo picked guitar kickstarted the genre as a whole, since everything before that was either thrash or death metal

As an outsider, I have noticed that open strings play the most important role in black metal riffs.
While I disagree with a handful of selections, the time and effort put in to this project must be acknowledged and applauded. Awesome job!

Ivrish con-Abarth Drudkh’s early albums are way better than their newer stuff. Far more atmospheric.
I always felt Jon Nodtveidt was the Vivaldi of metal: complex and 'true', but melodic and simply sticking into your ears.

Nice stuff! I have to say, though, that you covered mostly the "orthodox" side of black metal, with a few exceptions of course. I would recommend, if you haven't already, to check out the "post" black metallers, the Cascadian circle, the French and the Icelanders, most definitely!
P.S. What we learned today is that black metal is 8 out of 10 in the Phrygian mode :P

Awesome work.... Kinda surprised neither Rotting Christ, Enslaved or Arcturus managed to find a spot on this list, and personally would have gone with Mother North as the Satyricon entry, but oh well..... Was still an excellent list.... Cheers....
Also Taake, agree with you, is an awesome work besides the riff from bathory could have been a much better one form any other song of that band in my humble opinion.
But Rotting Christ aren't a real black metal band, they're more Dark/Death/and a very little bit Folk metal

That's the evolution. Just like early metal bands were heavy blues.

No songs from the DmDs-era of Mayhem??! I mean "Freezing Moon" and "Buried By Time and Dust" were composed by Euronymous himself in 1989 which is really goddamn early in terms of actual black metal. Those riffs alone, especially the tremolo picked guitar kickstarted the genre as a whole, since everything before that was either thrash or death metal
