@5:45 you could try setting dex to force run apps that arent supported in dex mode, its in dex labs settings "force apps to resize"
Totally agree with everything you’ve outlined. I’ve experienced the same with both devices. I also didn’t that iPad allows for drag and drop of files throughout the whole OS where as the Tab S8 only allows drag and drop in some file apps and only within the app to folders. There isn’t a single way in dex or non dex to drag a file into a browser with an email client etc. Super miss on Samsungs part for that desktop experience that is only made worse by their keyboard/trackpad accessory quality.

Wow, you have a lot of different workflows, that's dope. Glad to see your comparison. Man i love the ultra. simply the fact that it's a 14 inch tablet just makes me smile, probably a product i'd have just for the sake of it.
Video editing at your level is probably out of the question in these devices right? I see you have 4k uploads so doubt even these top spec devices can handle it
I do like the size when I'm watching movies or coding, and I love the kickstand. But, because of the kickstand the footprint of the setup is a little large. I realise that I want two mutually-exclusive things: a small footprint and a kickstand setup 😂
4K editing on the iPad Pro is definitely possible with LumaFusion, I think it shouldn't be a problem on the S8 either providing the recorded media has hardware support. Most of these high-end tablets have great hardware encode/decode for common video formats.

In android u have a photo editor called photopea, it's an online photo editor that replicates the desktop version of photoshop and I find a really good experience in my galaxy tab, almost like it was designed to work with the s pen

Very informative video. Thanks for sharing. It still looks like the limitations of iPad are purely due to Apple’s stinginess to open up iOS. It’s a shame that even basic background tasks can’t be kept alive with the M1 chip. Stage Manager is very poorly executed so far.
Fully agree. Stage Manager is disappointing and it seems artificially limited. Apple has a really weird approach to iPad Pro usage.
Honestly with Android 12 Termux took a massive step back and I've been tempted by Tech Crafts portable Raspberry setup. Supposedly this might get fixed with Android 13 but right now I'm stuck with a complete inability to run X11 on the Tab S6 and can only run Termux as a terminal emulator. Massively limiting vs the old setup!
If Apple ever open up I'd probably switch also. For Samsungs sake I hope that never happens ;)
@@tech_craft I did find "mobius sync" that can pull off the syncthing protocol pretty well but it has its quirks thanks to the iOS walled garden.
Otherwise, I agree with this sentiment. Lugging around a pi (i'm trying to get a pi-zero 2 to work for my needs) feels "wrong" with an M1 12.9" iPad.

the other excellent thing about the android tablet, is that you can install a Linux VM.
Good impartial review. I have to mention that I've had zero issues with bending / phantom key presses on a the much smaller Tab S6. Could be the shear size of the unit. The trackpad is trash though.
I do think the 14" model is too big and the size has a lot of drawbacks. The overall footprint is very large making it a little hard to use in cramped situations like the train/plane.
I do think they could have made the keyboard more rigid - I had a look at the smaller one in a local store and it's still really flexible.
for me the review of the feel of the s-pen with drawing and note taking apps outweighs the negatives of unavailable photo-editting software
I certainly get that - the s-pen is a real standout win for the S8.
For a Affinity Photo alternative, you have Krita. Its the same as desktop.
Bro…I’d rather just carry a surface laptop 13 or 15 inch. Touchscreen, crazy good speakers, full windows, best in class multitasking. Best keyboard. Excellent touchpad. It’s also lighter than the iPad Pro+keyboard combo. Cheaper too. People get caught up in the which tablet is better argument when a thin windows laptop would serve them way better.
I had a Surface Pro 7 for a while but I'm just not productive with Windows. I see more and more support for running Linux directly on the Surface devices these days so I might have another pass at the SP if I can find the time.
I think it's important to note that most of the multitasking stuff shown is Samsung-specific and is going to be different or just absent on other Android tablets, for example slide-out dock is not a part of a pure Android (but recent Android 12L has a permanent multitasking panel on bottom), and I believe more than 2 apps is not a part of a stock Android either. Samsung Dex obviously, too.
On the point of 1Password not working correctly - there may be an option somewhere at the bottom of Developer Settings to "force all apps to be resizeable". It may not affect Dex, may not be present at all, or just break 1Password, but it's worth trying

I did try that - it's really nice, but feels more like Procreate than Affinity.

The MX Keys mini is nice but really heavy, the Magic Keyboard is much lighter/thinner. You also cannot remap the Fn key on the MX Keys which is very frustrating.
That's good to know. I've not been able to find the MX Keys Mini in stores to try it out and I'd just assumed it was going to be light.
Morning Sir, I have an Android table, (XiaomiPad 5) what do you recommend for programming in python, hook it to a raspberry pi3 I have already collecting dust or use the tablet itself using something like termux? Thanks a lot in advance
I'd definitely try Termux first - the XiaomiPad has 6GB RAM so much more than the Pi3.
You need to enable an experimental option that forces all apps to work in windowed mode on Dex, then all apps should work.

Have you tried running virtual machines on the s8 ultra? I know vms are not usable on the ipad pro. Incase you did this would really be a gamechanger.
I've tried proot but I haven't tried any full virtualization.

I got the G915 TKL with linear switches which I think is great for gaming. For coding/typing I like the Gateron Blue switches - they feel great but they are really loud so I wouldn't use them in a shared workspace!
Great video. Just wondering, How did you set up your iPad to access or ssh a server/host remotely? I tried doing this on my iPad to my laptop but I am having a hard time when ssh'ing to it remotely. Any advice would be great!

I've be using Android and have a custom app for my photo culling but the lack of photo editing SW is driving me to consider switching to Mac/ipad as I hate to have to use pc for advanced photo editing.
It's definitely a drawback, and a surprising one for me - I'd expected to find something on Android that would compete with Darkroom on iOS.
Hopefully they will have the ultra tablet in 5g soon in the states 😀

How do you run Emacs on Android? Do you use it through a terminal application or?
I use Termux and then install Emacs on there.

Im not Ultra guy, but I bought S8+ replacing my rented iPad Air 2020. That OLED display make me smiling everytime I looking at it.
Good job talking about things NO ONE ELSE talks about. Yes you're 💯 % correct, the performance of typing and scrolling on the Tab S8 Ultra keyboard book cover is TERRIBLE, and I'm determined to call Samsung out on this, it's a CRIME to put this piece of crap out on the market.
It's really disappointing to be honest. The S8 itself is such a great tablet, Samsung really let it down with the keyboard.
Anyone here use ms office suites extensively in Dex mode?

I tried the S8 in the store. Just don’t like Android. I’ll stick with iPad. A very good alternative for the Apple Magic Keyboard however is the ESR Rebound Magnetic Keyboard/Trackpad Case. I have both and I can say that the ESR offering is just as nice with a few extra features for 1/3 the price.
hmm I tried the ESR case & maybe I'm too nitpicky - I didn't like the trackpad & found it annoying not to be able to use the Fn key as the Emoji key like the Apple BT Keyboard (not to mention the lack of an escape key when they easily could have added it!) - I ended up returning mine.
@@chinarut Trackpad works perfectly on mine. The emoji key is on the top right in between the lock and delete keys. My unit is only a few months old however and they may have improved the product since you bought & tried yours.
Why don't you use a microsoft surface pro instead of ipad pro?
I tried an SP7 for a few months but I don't particularly enjoy working with Windows and the Linux experience wasn't great.

I use Ctrl a lot more than Caps Lock so it makes sense to put Ctrl in an accessible place. On Mac and iOS the switch is available in the Keyboard Settings in Settings/System Preferences.
u talk about m1 vs snaodragon lol there is no compare M1 much better and ipad won samsung its good and screen op but its expensive too im not gonna spend money just for screen ... ipad screen beast and great and colors for eyes its more comfortable another thing ipad pro 12.9 .. games support 120fps easy and frames drop to 97 fps but sasmung ulrta tab its 60 fps in many games and frames drop to 37fps !!! so idont see any compare here btw im using samsung phone now and writing from samsung phone i use both ios and droid im not fan boy for any .. but take this advice no tablet reach ipad pro 12.9 until now from any company if i have 1500$ -1800$ do u pick ipad pro 12.9 or droid tablet ? for sure ipad pro

Disney+ is flawless on the Ultra in the US. I don't think it's a tablet problem. Hulu, Netflix, HBO, Prime all work fine. This is something regional. Keyboard cover case is much better than magic keyboard in my opinion because it detaches instantly to allow media consumption with kickstand still attached. That's a matter of preference. But still great and fair review even if we disagree. I was thrilled to get rid of my IPad Pro for the Ultra. Ultra is 10x better for my use case. But not so much for yours. Plus if you are firmly in the Windows/Android ecosystem Apple refuses to play nice.
I want the stability of the magic keyboard and the detachability of the keyboard cover and a kickstand - I don't think I'll get what I want 😂
Windows/Android does seem like a good pairing - Apple is all Apple. I'm exploring Linux laptops again at the moment and Android is a far nicer fit.
Still using the S8 a lot and still enjoying it.
No way is the magic keyboard worse. I can literally take my ipad out anywhere and use it instantly with or without a table. Thats my only issue with the tab s8 ultra. The keyboard is just horrible. Besides that i love it

It was extremely disappointing. I'd started before leaving and was really hoping to settle into it on the flight!
I’ve had exactly the same happen on My son’s iPad when I download him lots of content for a long ferry trip. Luckily I’d got stuff from other sources too. No I don’t rely on it for offline mode.

At this point, either your influencing or don't know, to say this isn't a comparison and start by saying apps are better on a different platform while only giving two examples is quite contradicting, truth is android is far superior with more quality options in hardware and software, there are a few apps Apple won't let go but they're are thousands they can't get their hands on, do the math.
There's nothing contradictory about saying some apps are better on one platform than another. You might have a different opinion, which is totally fine, but it's not a contradiction.
Android definitely has more options, whether it has more _quality_ options is debatable. Look at the travesty that is the Book Cover Keyboard vs. Apple's Magic Keyboard.

I have seen dozens and dozens of Ultra reviews but this was by far the worst review of the Ultra I've seen.
You obviously haven't spend enough time to learn Android and Samsung's One UI. I heard and saw so much mistakes and ignorance.
Please educate yourself a lot more before reviewing a device.
Care to share an example?
