As someone pointed out this is one of the last concerts he did before his death. I give the man credit -he went out the way a great musician should playing to the end.
PLEASE people ALWAYS list the musicians when you put music up on CZcams or anywhere--please--OK? Thank you. Jimmy Smith - Organ Mark Whitfield - Guitar Byron Moore - Bass Dowell Davis - Drums
There was nobody better on the organ than Jimmy Smith ( RIP ). A very special musician. We will always remember him and his Hammond music. Thanks for all the great music.
hard to admit I've listened and enjoyed jazz since my teens in the '60's..not too much into that progressive jazz but this melo style is the bomb. my grandson has picked up the trumpet, trombone and drums...talk about making my heart sing....lm so happy. the music of today is not in my opinion mysic, just kids making money. but l guess its better than the alternative. long live the Jazz community.
back when musicians didn't get in each other's way... back when melody connected with funk, music that you felt before you even knew what was going on. Amazing
And back when we still had these vinyls and could que them again and again. Then of course decades passed and we moved a couple times and the LP's disappeared?!? :-(
My Old Man HAD Jimmy Smith's Walk On The Wild Side LP...... This HERE is the KING of Hammond B3 Organ.... Wonder IF Greg Rollie of Santana Fame listened to Mr. Smith......
Guitarist building that carpet.... Jimmy's riding down the ally behind the Watermelon Man... horse and cart... direct from the wholesale market...they each had their own distinctive calls & chants... you could name their content from inside your house. Some guys were selling fish and soft shell crabs too.
This is a year B4 Jimmy passed on..I met him walking down the street one day about 4PM in Las Vegas, downtown area..He said, "HI there..He invited Me to His Party that night..I didnt have a babysitter so I did not go..Who knows we may have fallen 4 each other..I regret I did not go see Him..
Please, remind the bass player to read his part before starting to play: it's a sort of respect to Dizzy, to Jimmy, to the rest of the band, and to the public.
@@dspiffy Sorry you got butt hurt , and yes the truth hurts. Watermelon Man is a blues variation ( 16 bars ) F7, Bb7 and C7 thats it. If you dont know what youre talking about, you should go on a newbie music forum and learn basic music theory. Maybe Byron wasnt feeling well that evening, but he sure was off the track.
A GENIOUS A tragic loss , he literally launched the Hammond, his beautiful keyboard skills were special ... R.I.P great master of the keyboard
The Best To Ever Do It. Mr. Jimmy Smith
The bass player is putting out some well placed notes, very tasteful and artistic

I always remember a great evening at The Jazz Cafe in Camden London on the 21st February 2000.
I was at that gig… so so memorable especially as I grew up on Jimmy Smiths music - back in the good old days of Vinyl
Jimmy Smith has been a big part of my life since the 50's. Small's Paradise where he played such great jazz
I still have a few albums I bought of him from back in the late 60's !
Back in 196? my father had me playing accordion. That lasted 'til I heard this guy.
+Mark Wallin hahahahahaa sounds awesome

Saw him at the Blue Note around 2000. Lou Donaldson opened. The show was unreal.
The master of the Hammond! I got to see him in 95,99 and 2001. He is missed. thanks for posting.
I know nothing about jazz, though I like it. But, I can definitely hear Water Melons splashing about in here. This is brilliant craft.
The Incredible Jimmy Smith
Great guitar solo!
The great Mark Whitfield on guitar...
Thanks Man. I was wondering...
I always get Whitfield mixed up with Malone!
Love this song, and mostly the way you swing it Jimmy! Grew up loving your music!! God Bless
Even weakened by illness, Jimmy could make that big Hammond beg for mercy.
Inenarrável o prazer de curtir esse som ! Clube dos Velhos amantes da nostalgia
Jimmy, always ahead of the beat. Don't know of any jazz musician who thought as fast outside of Art Tatum, and possibly Gary Burton in his prime.
Oscar Peterson was up there too.
Quel musicien de génie c'était ce Jimmy RIP . Grace à toi j'ai adoré ce merveilleux instrument.
I agree with you and beside I knew him.he was very nice person and he adored his wife.
