    Excellent, Brian. All of the “rules” videos I’ve seen have been so inspiring. I especially appreciate that you and others have underlined that frequency and consistency are not actually necessary, even though they might be helpful for the algorithm or whatever. As someone who is still struggling to get fully back in the booktube saddle, I am always reassured when viewers tell me they don’t care!

    I remember hearing that advice about a regular posting schedule. That does work for me, but when i look through my favorite channels, they are regular, light, heavy, occasional, every type of poster and it doesn't affect my viewing. I guess it might affect the invisible mysterious algorithm but yeah, do whatever makes you happy!

    I love this! I've seen a lot of videos that are sort of geared about what you should do to get people to watch your videos, but the truth is that this should be what makes us (the creator of the channel) happy.

    1. You can only read books that personify inanimate objects.
    2. You can only eat raw egg yolks while reading if participating in the comment sections.
    3. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT eat the books!
    4. If someone asks you out on a date you may oblige, but if you like it, you're out.
    5. Go down to the nearest store, buy yourself an ice cream, don't worry, you won't be eating it.
    6. Make sure that all of the comments you leave are 100% serious.
    7. All bribes must be sent to the paypal of username: Cooking With Silence
    8. Don't ask what that smell is, we all know it's there, nobody can figure it out, it's frustrating.
    9. 10 rules sure is a bunch, wouldn't 9 be easier if we turned one of them into a question?

    • @BookishTexan
      @BookishTexan  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Thank you. My channel growth has been steady with a few big bursts of growth centered around just a few videos so I’m not sure I’m the best to ask. A good title and descriptive or entertaining thumbnail seem to be pretty important though. Also, I think if growth is what you are interested in concentrate on getting views more than subscribers. It used to be that subs drove views, but now I think it’s the other way around.

Guard, also, against the opiate of escape and endeavour not to read thy life or problems away. Readest, occasionally, outside thy comfort zone, but do not lose sight of oneself. And treatest not advice on the internet like advice from a trained professional who knows thy personal situation.

    Will your book on wwii be in the shops in uk? For some reason I can't find your anouncement and need the link to order it. I read so many books I wanted to read in the last few years that I haven't read that many books this year. I needed a project and was thinking of doing Balzac series but there are about 80 of them! Love your vids and always watch, but I wouldn't do any videos myself. I saw someone do a video on the algorythme and because its AI it promotes men over women because the data set it learnt on was skewed in favour of guys channels and that just like the Amazon recruitment AI it exagerated that bias.

    • @BookishTexan
      @BookishTexan  Před 3 měsíci

      It should be available in shops in the UK, but I don’t know how widely. I checked the Waterstones website and it is available for pre-order there. I made a community post recently showing the full cover design and it has the link to the publishers website where you can order it. I have a video called “Where Not to Start with Balzac” that also has a list of some places to start. Old Goriot, The Black Sheep, and Cousin Bette are good places to start. I think AI is only going to make the lack of diversity of CZcams/BookTube worse.
