Portuguese knitting is the least tiring and neat way to knit, the tension of the yarn is always the same because your pin or neck tension is constant so this gives someone a consistent shape of the stitches. Before I realized from time to time why some rows looked different bigger or irregular to my eye, after switching to portuguese style, all the rows are uniformly same and no wrist pain or right thumb numbness. I learnt knitting from CZcams videos. Unfortunately almost all videos show how to start knitting with English or continental way, I was looking for an easy method to purl, I thought to myself there should be more than this then came across to your channel. People like and comment more to this video for people to see it on top when someone just starting to knit.

Thank you so much for your accurate testimonial!
When I use to teach in a yarn shop, years ago, my students were thrilled that the stitches were so even!
Little by little the word about Portuguese Knitting is getting out there, but still surprises me how many people have not heard of it and start learning this way. Again, I appreciate so much your help!

Hi Andrea, thank you for this extremely clear tutorial on Portuguese knitting. The purl style is going to be a game changer for me! Just shared this with my knitting bestie, and we are both very excited. Best wishes to you from Australia 😁🧶😁🧶😁

I've always struggled with uneven stitches due to poor tension. I was taught the throwing method. Continental knitting helped. The Portuguese style of knitting though has been a huge game change for me, especially for my ribbing. With ribbing before the second knit stitch left leg was distorted, I tried knitting the first purl stitch a little tighter to close any gap and generally knitting tighter. It was so exhausting. My purl row was always a bit loose. When shifting or sliding stitches tension was lost and every now and then along a row there was the odd large stitch or two. Now my 2x2 rib is cleaner, neater and I can feel proud of it, hence for the first time I'm knitting with confidence. My advice is try different knitting styles until you find the one that suits you. Thank you for these tutorials.

The different knitting styles are really interesting. I love these kind of knitting videos getting to know the different styles. I have been knitting for over 60 years and I'd rather stick to the continental way though. To me the Portuguese way looks just as awkward as the English "throw over" method.

That's totally fine. You are open minded to check other styles and at least learn something about them. If Continental works for you, that's wonderful! Keep knitting!

Thank you so much for this video! I am just learning to knit and I have watched some very good and clear instructions but it was either continental or english style. Right away the continental style was preferred over english but I was having such difficulty with tension and my index finger was starting to feel sore and it just felt a bit strange. Then I saw a video demonstrating this Portuguese style and was intrigued. I have found your video to be the most clear and straight forward and this style actually feels natural to me even though I’m just learning. I am looking forward to going through your other videos.

You bet! A lot of knitters get yarn over between stitches because they don't position the yarn at the right place before making the stitches...
