Leaves die off from lack of sunlight. I had a node grow several branches after topping. The smaller ones that formed didn't grow and eventually died. For nutrients it's best to use every bioactive element, if it's essential to people then it should be good for plants. Aside from NPK and secondary and micronutrients, the ultra trace ones can boost growth.
That's a great explanation, but can you explain it for those who use soil as well? I was also thinking about how you said the leaves are a storage for bud development, what about losing up on phosphorus in the veg mode and cut back on it in flower that way it can go into senescence easier?
I really don't understand the calculations.. Bruce mentions they feed cannabis at 2.5EC throughout it's entire cycle. That's about 1250ppm.i believe.. if we only need 30ppm of Phosphorus what the heck is the other 1220ppm?

However when you mix your element P (potassium) in a form of liquid or powder into your water whatever its concentration you just have to measure your mix and be at 30ppm, simple as that and don't forget your PH after aim for 5.8 in hydro have fun
@@jukeboxgaming1343it's more of a guide. Not a rule. I'm sure you can drown a plant with nutrients and it will be fine. Like different strains can handle different levels of fertilizer. Pale green plants that just got moved outside in direct sunlight can handle way more nitrogen than a plant in the shade or inside on a window with a few hours of direct light a day. Think of sunlight bleaching the leaves, and at night the nitrogen replenish it.
You’ll notice that the older cultivars that have been around for 15-20 years all require a much higher phosphorus and a balanced meal requires much higher phosphorus or you’ll always end up with red stems due to lack of phosphorus

No, you just take a sample of the water you want to test (after adding and mixing your nutrient), place the meter in it to get a reading! Measuring runoff is important as well.

The dyes added to fertilizer will be a good indicator, also its hard to over fertilize with high phosphorus, high nitrogen will really cook a plant but you can see that coming. Leaves so dark green they die.
I grow in hydro and I’m learning EVERYTHING is “weight with a grain of salt”. The ec is low and depending on strain you can feed at 1.6-1.8 (my current feed ec in 5gal buckets)

yes and athena recommends an ec of 2.5 lol thats 1250 ppm daily plus a chelate with their cleanse hmmmm, i feed at 500 ppm and change npk ratios every 2 weeks as the plant changes. no need for cleanse if you know what you are doing.

And I hope you or somebody that works with you can give us a little more insight on this 30 ppm. I mean most of us know that when we introduce our cannabis plants to 12/12 lighting ( Flowering). We should give a boost of P. I use powdered nutes and I mix all my nutes myself. I don't use any premixed bottled nutes. And what I have always did was the first 4 weeks of 12/12 . I would just add a extra 1/8 of a teaspoon to my solution. I can't remember off the top of my head,what that brought the ppms to. But what I always thought was this helped increase bud sights. Anyway my first question is. What ppms of P should we be running in veg. And next is when should we increase the amount of P. And should we increase it all at once to 30 ppms. Also from what I understand is that P gets locked out very easily. So if we are increasing the amount of P. Should we be adding or increasing something else. So the P doesn't get locked out. For example, when I give my little boost of P. I give a little kick of aminos to go along with it. Now my next questions are going to come from this example. Like I said I only gave a boost of P for the first 4 weeks of 12/12. Then I would cut that out. Then I would give a little boost of K from week 5 till harvest. So now should I still run the 30 ppms of P all the way to harvest ? Because you said that the flower will have 1 percent of P in it. And that just seems like a lot. This means 9.6 mg/L phosphorus is adequate for optimal growth in this phase when water use efficiency is 4.0 g/L. During reproductive phase, plants can accumulate 10 mg/g or more of phosphorus in the buds. So it is advise to double or even triple that 9.6 mg/L to support phosphorus demand by plant in this phase. I currently feed 11.6 during vegetative and 29.0 during reproductive phase till a week before harvest. Cannabis yield is unaffected by potassium in the range of 75-175 mg/L but canabinoids decreases as potassium increases. I currently apply 95 mg/L potassium in the entry grow; no boost in any elements except for phosphorus. These numbers are about optimal yield not quality. Quality decreases as N, P and K increase; the dilution effect by more growth and yield.
Then why Athena do you recommend ridiculous amounts of elemental Phosphorus and Potassium in your feed charts, if this what your study show? Your blended feed chart will 150% burn a first time growers crop I know

Phosphorus does not end up in our waterways causing utriforcation and alge blooms. Its nitrogen, that you can not mistake if you understand the nitrogen and Phosphorus cycles by bacteria. Big laugh😅

Athena must be getting hard up to be paying DR Bugbee to redo old videos with an athena logo lol, botom line Athena dose not have near enough phosphorus , leading to poor roots, and underdevoloped flowers , used it several times in severay systems with same result , it also has way to much K and N and not enough calmag , regardless of what athena says it is one of the most expencive at twice the price per gallon as flora flex , cyco , H&G etc.
Soon I publish my study where I will reveal that these high levels cause micro seeds. But to get access I charge ~$2 bazillion. So you either pay for access or simply run lower levels. For free. And get a better product. And save money on plant "food".

Every time you add anything to the water , i.e. nutrients, the ppm changes, typically going up.

You need a ppm meter, its parts per million , you'd have to test water not soil
