- [UPDATE: I'm being asked this a lot so I'm going to put it here. I used Adobe After Effects for the compositing on this film. Most of the animation itself was done on paper and coloured in Photoshop, the rest was done in Flash.]
An artist's rivalling creations fight for his attention.
2D animation integrated with live action. Produced as part of the MSc Animation & Visualisation course at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.
It legitimately upsets me that this doesn't have the attention it deserves.

After Effects for the tracking/compositing. Photoshop for colouring, and Flash for a few bits of animation that weren't done on paper.

How did you create this? It's amazing!! Did you do the animation/drawing in the computer... Step by step?
A few bits were fully animated animated in Flash, but the majority was drawn and inked on paper and then coloured in Photoshop.

+TwoTailedSponge Elwood (the dog) was the main character of a comic strip I started in high school that I did for a number of years before stopping to develop new projects. You can see it at elwoodcomic.com
Trooper (the girl) was a character in my undergrad film of the same name which you can find in my channel. She may show up again in the future...

How is the shadow done under the animated characters?
Different methods for different bits. Sometimes he animation alpha is used to create a shadow and sometimes it's just simple polygon shapes in After Effects. I chose a colour and a blending mode for them that best matched the other shadows in the scene. For scenes like the hallway there had to be some masking so they matched light source and existing shadows.
The first walking shot involved creating a section of the floor that wasn't bleached out with light from the window in order to create a realistic reflection.
