They got an incredibly tasty drum tone on this album, obviously. It sounds a little like John Bonham's on steroids. Its interesting to hear how similar his kick drum tone is to his live tone. This is the same tone he had live when they sound checked in Atlanta.

Their DVD for the making of The Hunter wasn't so in depth as the one for Crack The Skye, but in Oblivion in Crack The Skye you can hear a big loud "metallic chime"ish sound at the pre-chorus where Troy sings "bla bla bla nine eyes gazing faster than stars falling"... When you watch the DVD you can see Brann tracking that additional percusion part, and I'm sure that's what he did here man...! \,,/ Mastodon!!
