- Hi friends, happy Thursday!
Welcome to the Dark History podcast. Did you know that fewer people know the recipe for Coca-Cola than know the nuclear code? Or that the few people who do know the recipe are not allowed to fly at the same time in case their flights go down. So how did Coca-Cola become such precious cargo? Well in today’s episode we get into Coke’s history, when did the cocaine get taken out and why, how it grew into the empire we know today, and what shady secrets they keep in their vault with the recipe.
I appreciate you for coming by, and tune in next week for more Dark History.

The tattoos the asthetic the humor the beauty the brains Bailey has it all 🤧😮💨😮💨
I'm sure you have a lot, too. Except for commas, that is.... 😉😉
@@rule_brittania2142 😂
Tell me about it! I'm in love with this woman 😍 such a beautiful soul
Totally totally agree with you
Ikr, she is stunning
No ads or sponsors, like the Nestle episode…huh. Thank you for sticking your neck out and speaking out about the dark history behind these big corporations❤
Was thinking the same thing the whole time!
Would've been hilarious if there was a Coke or Pepsi ad in the middle 🤣 (edit for spelling)
I noticed the same thing! Very intriguing 🤔
Noticed this too, interesting!
Might be she’s not allowed to have ads for other brands with Coke or Nestlie. If that makes sense.
Sprite literally just recently change the color of the bottles from to green to clear, so that way when there’s a bunch of pictures of like bottle pollution you can’t easily spot out bright green sprite bottles
The lack of sponsorship on this videos speaks volumes thank you Bailey for telling us all the dark Goss and keeping these companies honest 💜🖤
Glad i wasnt the only one that notice no ad break
Agreed
Bailey calling the Pope “Jesus’s PR Guy” is legendary. 🤣
Bailey is both a rebel, and a BADASS! 😍
ICONIC
Hilarious!!!!
Nah the pope is the pr guy of the catholic church. That's a whole different thing.
True. But honestly, if Jesus were still here in human form one of the first things He would do is FIRE that self appointed and self serving PR Team. Jesus is depicted as angry twice in the Bible. One of those times was in exact relation to Hypocritical & Abusive Religion & Practices … like the vast majority of organised “Christianity”. My personal opinion is that Jesus is most definitely NOT “in the house” of most organised Christian Churches … His Name & All He Stood For has been IMO misrepresented to the point of desecration unlike any other Name or Cause in History. I will NEVER call myself a “Christian” 🤮🤮🤮 But Jesus IS The Core Of My Faith 🙏
Dear Bailey,
I doubt you’ll see this but I wanted to get this off my chest. You see, it’s coming up on the one year mark since I last watched or listened to Dark History. The fault isn’t yours, the content is incredible, educational and entertaining all rolled up into one!
It’s because October 2021 was the last month I had the man who was a father figure and I got to listen to them together. He loved your stuff as much as I did and we would spend the whole episode together talking about it and laughing. As a history teacher you surprised even him with some of the things you found! November 2021 he was hospitalized…and never came home. He passed away at the end of December.
He loved your work as much as I did and maybe, just maybe this year I can bring myself to listen again. Baby steps ya know?
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for your content.
❤️
I’m no Bailey Sarian but I hope you are doing well ❤
How you doing dear
hugs and condolences to you sweetie.
I know you might not want to give advice but how do you deal with it. I just lost my sister and I having a hard time allowing myself to greave. Any advice is helpful and if it hard you do not have to answer because I understand. My condolences to your lost.
Bailey, please do a Dark History on The Plastic Industry itself- it lives in us now 😮
Yup
Love this idea

Yasss. And then do one on China
She just did one !!
"Circle jerking, human centipede" oh Bailey the things you say make my day ♡
We need a whole Monsanto series. That is a whole season in itself! I’ve done a TON of reading and research on them! Super suspish! Love you Bailey!
They are the DEVIL!
YES!!! They’re super evil and we need a whole season on just them alone.
Very true. They’re downright evil.
I agree. This investigation/story could change minds about our food supply in the USA.
Yess, they're the worst
bailey: "you might be thinking bailey, bailey, bailey are you high??"
bailey: "…yes."
The way she paused 😭😭
Loved when she said that 😂
💚💚😎💚💚
I laughed so hard at that!
🤣❤️
bailey, i recently lost my cousin to fentanyl. it’s a big crisis right now in america and me and others would love it if you could touch on the dark history of fentanyl and raise awareness on this issue. this episode is one of my favorites from you as coke is a big product in my life and my family’s.
My deepest condolences to you. A friend's daughter passed from an overdose at the end of April.
I am so sorry! I also lost my cousin to fentanyl.
Hi Bailey- Environmental historian Jason Moore says that the oldest trick in capitalism’s book is individualized guilt. You nail this in your episode here!
Thanks for the work that you do.
Underrated comment !!! I wish this got more likes
i love bailey so much and i’m so glad she shares the stories nobody wants to touch. notice how she had no sponsors for this video or the nestle video?? you go bailey!!!!
My great grandma, Olive, used to work at Coca-Cola when it acquired Minute Maid in the 60s. She owned a stock and by the time she passed she saved it all for any of the grandkids that wanted to go to college. She also was the life of the party! She always wore monochrome outfits with big jewelry and always loved to have a drink 😂
Moral of the story… W great grandma
That's cool! Thanks for sharing wh us! I love the stories on here!!
Coke and Pepsi have the same owner
that was so smart of your grandma to save the stock for the grandkids!! did they use it?
@@morii7575 thank you! Yeah she really valued education a lot. We lived with her when I was a toddler for some time and I always remembered her reading books to me. I’m still a bookworm today bc of her, I miss her sm. I know that some went to one of my cousins bc he went to university for football. Although I couldn’t tell you where the rest went, I do have more older cousins so it most likely went to them. If so then I’m grateful that they got that opportunity. They do have established careers from what I know. I personally went through community college and I got my AA with no debt so I’m happy lol. I still plan to get my bachelors soon in museum studies/history. Saving money and making smart investments does really work overtime. I plan to do the same and save money for my kid’s education or for when they want to own their first home, whichever they choose. I appreciate that she was really thinking of us before we were even around and it is a valuable lesson that I believe she instilled in all of us. 💕
@@m.ily.n this is so cool thanks for sharing this amazing story ❤
Your last talking point is so important. It’s like the big corporations saying we have to make our carbon footprints smaller but they tell us to carpool as they climb into their private jets. Like bro I think you’re the bigger problem here.
George Carlin was right.. the Earth will eventually shake us off like a bad case of fleas.. it'll be the Earth Plus plastic
Bailey, you should do a dark history on ecstasy. I heard that mdma used to be used to treat severe depression, but because it's SO addictive and could potentially permanently affect your brain's ability to produce serotonin, it was made illegal. I feel like it'd be a fun deep dive.
I heard that it was used for the army to keep soldiers awake.. And yes it was banned for the addiction issues
Ketamine is now starting to be used to treat severe depression
@@annettedailey6743 Seriously?! I just imagine all the soldiers on the ground, petting the grass. 😂

Coca-Cola is also responsible for the image of Santa Claus's red and white outfit. Up until then he was portrayed in green or brown. Coke wanted to spread ads getting the attention of kids, so they used their red and white logo as the coloring for his costume.

I don’t know if it’s just me but I would LOVE to see her do a dark history on The Wizard of Oz film.
THIS!!!! 🎉🙌🏻
She covered that already
Absolutelyyyy
Agree. Judy Garland's life in general is dark and depressing and sheds light on early days of Hollywood stars being mistreated.
The wizard of oz =populist
I love that Joan got closer! Feels like she’s more involved!
I noticed that too 😂 love Joan❤

Awkward times right now… watching this, while in the office, working for Coca-Cola 😂
Lol go girl...
Bring them down from the inside fam xD
Do the right thing
Tell me about it… merchandiser… for coca-cola 😅
lol whole time I was watching this I was thinking about the fact that I worked there a year ago.
Bailey I appreciate you dude.
It shouldn't be up to only the consumer to end pollution and needless waste. We all should be pressuring corporations to change.
In addition to Bailey's point about companies being more honest about what's on their labels back in the day- people need to realize that the internet did not always exist, and there was a Stranglehold on the flow of information back in the day. Unless you're willing to hook it for 18 blocks to visit 12 different libraries, most people weren't going to do research on the products they consume, especially when they expect the companies that they trust to be honest with them.
This is precisely why it is so important that the sharing of information remains easily accessible. Many try to speak out about the real dangers of some product or commodity that large corporations have huge funds invested in but increasingly we are seeing dissenting voices silenced by big tech or whoever has been paid off handsomely to ensure the status quo remains.
Bailey isn't just gorgeous but SO subtly funny!! Her deadpan delivery of "it made me see air" referring to morphine caught me by surprise and I had to pause I was laughing so hard! AHAHA and then, Bailey, are you high? "yes I am"... Girl, I love you!
Same here. I’m still trying to recover from laughing over the seeing air bit. 😆
Saaaaame!
I came to the comments for this reason exactly!
Morphine don't phase me I needed something stronger
The polar bear holding the coke bottle is rather ironic once you learn about coke’s real history
Yes! The polar bear and Santa were classic ads! Remember when they made "NEW Coke" and people hated it?
Suffering from depression, you really brighten my day and make me laugh so much. ❤
Bailey, your sense of humor is truly unmatched 😂 your method of storytelling? AMAZING. ok love you bye
I was at a function once and they were selling soft drinks and I asked for coke, then the guy behind the counter asked me:"Can or a gram?"...😯🤭😝
PS: Bailey...your sound effects....😎😆🤗🤭👍

Here In Australia we have a program where we can hand in our plastic bottles and we are given 10c per bottle. The money comes straight from Coca-Cola’s pocket. They don’t like it at all but theres nothing they can do about it. 😂

Been 2 years following bailey now. Bailey makes every monday amazing.
I have been to the coke factory in Atlanta, GA a few times when I was younger. When asking any questions about coke being in the soda they will quickly shut it down and deny it. They deny most if not everything from this video and it’s hilarious thinking they are still hiding these dark secrets of their company.
I’m from the south. Every carbonated beverage is called a Coke. Doesn’t matter if it’s Sprite or Dr Pepper or Mountain Dew… it’s called a Coke. Extremely southern people call it ‘Co-cola’.
“Pop” or “soda” will just elicit a confused look.
Love this! From where I am in Scotland we call things like coke, Sprite, fanta etc (any carbonated drink) "Juice" or "Fizzy Juice". If you were asked by a friend to pick up a can of juice you know they mean something fizzy like a coke etc. You just ask what type 😂
Louisiana?
Ohio/ pop
Me too!!! I'm from Louisiana. It's all "coke." Just put "cokes" on your grocery list, and you get Coke, Dr. Pepper, and Sprite ....
I’m a Texan living in Michigan. After 16 years, I still can’t say “pop”🤣
Bailey always giving us the banger history stories that I had to go to a private college in order to learn about 🙌
LOL &luv hahaha
Wine and coke 😵💫😵💫jeez these people were on some other ish back then. When I heard it was originally used as a form of medicine, this is not what I'd imagined. Thank you Bailey for another great history lesson ❤️❤️❤️ SN: this pin up look on you is everything 🙌🙌
You are awesome! I wish more CZcamsrs would do their part in exposing what has been concealed. Maybe real change can occur if they were presented facts and in an entertaining way as you do?! Thanks for being you…you are loved!
I’m in love with the hair!! 😍😍😍 Plastic production goes beyond food products. A huge proliferator of plastic production is the fashion industry! Using polyester and other synthetic fabrics and then constantly pushing the narrative we need new clothes in order to be more desirable! The catch always is: 100% natural fiber products are harder to come by and mostly more expensive! Cheap textiles and labor are making a huge irreversible impact, and there’s not a lot to do about it! 😔
This is so true.
Some companies are trying to lend clothes out to people so they don't have to buy them and not wear them so to speak if that makes sense?
yeah
I had a project about zoot suit’s & I was so excited when I saw my teacher had us listen to your podcast. Love you Bailey!

Which episode was zoot suits?
I'd love an episode on: The History of Perfume/Cologne.
Florals and fruity scents for women, musky and aquatic scents for men? How, when, and why did something like a person's SCENT become gendered? I'm not sure how much "darkness" there is to it... but I'm sure there's something there.
A lot of people are allergic to artificial scents, but I don't think that's been researched. I've been diagnosed with multiple chemical sensitivity because of how bad my reactions are to perfume, scented soaps, and laundry detergent. But it's anything with parfum in it. Although a lot of things come from odd materials or have expensive costs to get, so that would be an interesting topic.
I don’t know about the gendering of scents. But I do know that they companies use weird stuff in fragrances. “Fragrance” under the law doesn’t has to be specific so they can and do put awful stuff in there. Things like phthalates and stuff.
This is niche and I like it.
She did one on this by the way, not sure if you saw it. “Death by Christmas Candle” It was very interesting. I will no longer wear artificially scented products cause of it. 💀
