This movie was on TV today. I only knew it was on because my mum was watching it but it was right near the end, E.T going onto the spaceship and going up, the rainbow etc, along with the music... I watched from the doorway and had a lump in my throat and trying not to tear up. This scene too is so amazing.
I was born in the 80's and my father had an evening job in a video store. He would watch films at home so that he would know what they are all about and talk to the customers about them and I was exposed to all the great films from that era.....We kept a copy of E.T at home and I would literally watch it every morning (that was before I went to nursery school)....this film was (and still is) pure cinematic magic to me. The cinematography, the characters, the music, the special effects....Spielberg's signature directing that I can't describe, but you just know.
In the film the boys were trying to save ET so he can return home to his mother ship. I think they were all heroes to me. The government agents were bent on trying to destroy ET.
It reminds me of "Splash" (1984) and "D.A.R.Y.L." (1985) when the heroes evade the government, police, and military and manage to escape. A lot of 80s movies that made you not trust your own government.
my favourite part is the one where the police officer, in order to stop a horde of teens on a bike with a super powered alien, instead of parking those cars a little closer or using a gun, makes the same gesture my grandma does to get rid of a fly or to call the kitten for tea time.
It does make more sense. Just want to know how they didn't see all those people on the sidewalk. I'm guessing Henry had a stunt double for some of the bike scenes; from the front it looks like they're pulling him!
This was C Thomas Howell's debut appearance and definitely one of his better appearances despite having only a few lines. His next 2 movies were considerably darker in theme. The Outsiders in 1983 and Red Dawn in 1984.
it kinda doesnt make sense he would close his eye for nothing since theres no actual threat lol With guns it becomes more logical that someone would close their eyes. Either way its a fantastic film. Love it.
foodbug I think he was closing his eyes since there were cars blocking every path of escape so he accepted his fate but E T saved them, or he knew E T would do that again
This younger generation is up against a lot, but they eventually get off of the ground. My generation? 1969, the Lunar Lander touches down on the surface of the Moon. Neil Armstrong descends the ladder onto the surface: "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." One sphere encounters another. E.T. phone home.
I love Thomas Howell! I will always think of him as Ponyboy.😁
SAMEE

YES! I love the Outsiders book and movie and when I finally saw the movie and saw Tyler I was like yup, that’s pony boy
He was in The Hitcher, that movie is very overlooked.

I agree 80s were the best
Even as a 2000's kid, my favorite movies are from the 80's
C Thomas Howell was in this movie!!!! How could have missed that? Cool!
I never liked this movie till I found out he was in it.

Beautiful music score

He did have a gun. E.T. made it go away, so he just had a walkie.
They all had guns. The part where Elliot has his eyes closed, he was staring down the barrel of a shotgun.
So some E.T.'s appeared in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Based on E.T.'s powers in his movie, that means he's a Jedi or at least Force-sensitive.
Walkie talkie version :P
It does make more sense. Just want to know how they didn't see all those people on the sidewalk. I'm guessing Henry had a stunt double for some of the bike scenes; from the front it looks like they're pulling him!
Greg: Where We Going?
Elliott: To The Forest! Follow Me!

Et memories for this 50 yr old
“We made it! Oh shi-“- Tyler’s last words 😭
I always liked this part more than the "moon flying" scene. Both amazing scenes though.
It’s Tommy for me
BMX Bikes were a thing then in the 1980s and so with Star Wars toy figures and M&Ms 🚲
One of my favorite scenes oh ya😃
This reminds me of stranger things and it
how can it remind you of things that came after? you mean stranger things and It remind you of ET 😉
@@Stand_Free lol yes yes exactly 😂👌🏻
And stand by me
I totally agree I said the same thing too That’s crazy😮
I think it’s because the scene has a focus on a group of kids/teens, they reminded me of The Goonies (1985) too!
Kids today don’t understand this! Sad world we live in today!
They cut out the Gun scene in this !
Best Bike Chase along with Mikey on his own
Today's kids on bicycles would out run anybody!
I love how about half of the comment section is just people talking about ponyboy being in the movie🐎
what is this edit? because of the gun? 1:04~
it kinda doesnt make sense he would close his eye for nothing since theres no actual threat lol With guns it becomes more logical that someone would close their eyes.

foodbug I think he was closing his eyes since there were cars blocking every path of escape so he accepted his fate but E T saved them, or he knew E T would do that again
Joey Taylor In the original cut, the Agents had shotguns
I always thought that Elliot closed his eyes to telepathically tell E.T. to find a way to escape.
Tommy tho💖💖!
Hear me out E.T. is from Star Wars
When you truly break free in life you will be on a bicycle
1:09 I didn’t know why they had that close up
But then I noticed his pupils expand
The walkie-talkie version, lol
Elliott: It’s A Jump!
I read that so wrong, I thought ET was 100 years old now and Im like "wtf"
When I first saw this around 1st grade, I hated it. But watching it now, it's a great movie!
Thomas howel 😍😍😍 but he's funny 😭😭😭
aww tommy was so tiny
Use the force.

Careful of those walk-ie talkies children
Like tube inside
The only thing I did not like about the anniversary edition was they replaced the guns with walkie-talkies.
Michael: Faster!
Look smart
That video is from movieclips lol
They cut one of the parts I like; where they all land and stop their bicycles in a row.
Air need strong
Wait. Thomas c Howell was on ET?

I like the walkie-talkies better than the guns. I feel the guns were too intense.
