  • How would you explain the difference between intelligence and wisdom? The story of Chesley Sullenberger. Why men are overrepresented in the top and bottom of the IQ bell curve. Can one's IQ be changed? Why university isn’t the be all and end all of life. Is the IQ test predictive of certain things? How do we distinguish between areas that respond to IQ and those that respond to wisdom? I've been saying for years that AI will out strip us on Intelligence... But Wisdom is another story altogether. We simply can't let Intelligence take over and rule over Wisdom!

Some people also confuse Knowledge and Wisdom. You can know that a tomatoe 🍅 is a fruit. Wisdom tells us not to put tomatoes in your fruit salad .

The Bible says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Could you explain that further if you do a follow on episode on wisdom? Also, I’ve heard the phrase that the needs of the many outweigh the needs the few (the group vs. the individual). What is the biblical understanding of this concept? Thank you for another great episode!

I believe that is a reference to the book of Romans which comes from the Xtian bible, which is very contrary to Tanakh. The God of Moses and the god of Paul are not the same.

I had to do a quick search on that phrase. I knew I heard it before, but it seems it came form a Star Trek movie.
I would just say it is collectivist garbage. The most evil phrase ever uttered is "for the greater good". That phrase is the foundation of every failed government that has brought about needless suffering and death of countless innocents.
The eugenicists who engineered the holocaust also did so under the banner of "for the greater good."

I’ve always thought that Knowledge is from getting and retaining information which helps if you have a high IQ. I assumed Wisdom is a gift From God and if we ask God for it and live a life to warrant it God will give us the wisdom we can handle.

INTELLIGENCE: retention of notes must serve a practical purpose. Should not be limited to summaries prepared by officers.
In WISDOM or WIT you are namely
    ...according to Canadian law
This is like me struggling between international security and international service which is an air service between Canada and a point in the territory of another country.

Rabbi, I'm one of your long-term listeners but not that surprised that you too agree with IQ and all that it entails. It however is not a good measure of intelligence because these tests are often culturally biased and reflect the values and norms of western society, which may not be applicable to other cultures and education for instance in "Sub-saharan Africa" as you mentioned is not as widespread and common as in the West. For the tests to be valid, the mass populace for instance in Sub-Saharan Africa would need to be studying similar fields as the west otherwise testing a person on algebra yet they have never stepped foot in a math class is kind of pointless. The tests would probably hold more ground if for instance it was tested on the African immigrants who have actually studied western education and been part of the education system, kind of gives them a common ground to compare IQs with everyone else (other races). Otherwise comparing people studying in western schools to a child or people studying in "Sub-Saharan" schools where the challenges include lack of resources (way too many to mention) and only a certain number actually get an education seems kind of pointless. IQ tests are culturally and historically specific to a particular region or area. This means that people from other parts of the world may not perform as well on the tests because the questions and concepts being tested may be unfamiliar to them. I love you but found it a bit lacking that that is the best you came up with thus far but then again you just might be perpetrating what is basically considered the norm. I remain a loyal listener just that on certain aspects we are all limited with regards to the amount of knowledge we have, what we choose to believe or research as we still are limited to our own biases as human beings. There is a lot more I could have addressed but can't fit here. Thanks Rabbi Lapin.
