Jacob Reeves Certainly there are large numbers of brave and articulate Russians such as this guest, with sophisticated knowledge of high-level politics in Russia. But why blame the West and other nations now for "hosting" Putin for the past 22 years of his power. Imo Russians need to stop passing the moral buck onto other countries when political disasters descend, like the current war pulversizing Ukraine. Leaders of other governments cannot possibly be fully aware of Putin's nefarious concealed scheming. How could they be, since Putin is expert at keeping his vile schemes close to his chest until he strikes - secret except with his inner circle and a few select foreign Top Brass cronies of his ilk. The political plays of any country need to be principally resolved internally by its own citizens. Why have the Russian people themselves in the past 22 years not resisted Putin's regime in larger numbers? As one brave YT dissenter in Russia said recently "they cannot arrest everybody". Numbers have power. Yes, everyone is aware how perilous life is for dissenters in Russia - but that is not the fault of other peoples or governments. Imo it is time for a massive uprising of Russians on their streets - too many to arrest. Perhaps there is also general apathy to change the status quo, since the living standard until this most recent war has been relatively good. As a non-Russian I wish people everywhere would stop referring so respectfully to this evil snake as "Mr." or "President" Putin. His current record speaks for itself. Call him just Poo-tin or whatever - no need to show respect to a corrupt war criminal using such polite terms of address.

Kara-Murza is very well spoken and he makes some very salient points here. Interesting side note: John McCain chose Kara-Murza to be a pallbearer at his funeral when he knew he was dying, because the two men had worked closely together over promoting democracy in Russian, and as a final rebuke to both Putin and Trump. Kara-Murza also has the honor of having been poisoned twice by Putin's thugs, and still living to tell about it. Incredibly brave man.

ISIS style torturing of PoW's and so forth, media here stays silent. Every act of terror is considered as "war on terror". Now when Russia does something, people go nuts. Western media just keeps saying the same over and over again and due to how much of a stranglehold the west has over the world, it's media is the most powerful brainwashing tool in human history. When a person with half a brain digs a little, he/she quickly finds out that its mainly Azov who are killing civilians in Mariupol, using apartment buildings to set up their positions without letting citizens leave. Media makes it seem like its only Russia who kills, yet Azov is the one with ISIS style tactics... yet they are seen as heroes. ridiculous... and Putin wasn't lying about Azov using human shields in that sense.

Dear Vlad; We had problems here in Canada with Quebec separation. Dianne Francis editor of the Financial Post, one of the Toronto Sun’s string of right wing newspapers, suggested that the military go to Quebec if they voted for separation. In response we brought a mock airplane ticket, 8ft x 4ft, to her office, a Complimentary Ticket to Croatia. We let the press know of our protest. The next day, other papers rebuked Dianne’s military option, and we heard not a further peep out of her on the matter.
A few years later our Prime Minister was photographed by Toronto Sun, with both hands around a Separatist protesters neck. The picture filled the front page with 1” bold printing across the picture: “NOW BRING ON BOUCHARD”. the leader of the opposition. With paper in hand, I hitch-hiked to Ottawa placing the right wing rag on the desk of the Director of the Cultural department of Foreign Affairs. To his unorthodox brilliance, he seeded my plans to bring three separatists from Quebec, and three who supported national unity, to Bosnia with near $40,000. There was some precedence for his decision, Jaco had performed in front of the notorious Serbian Sarajevo Holiday Inn snipers with clowns from France. When in Bosnia, the two contentious Canadian-Quebecois factions performed admirably. We toured 17 schools throughout the war torn regions of that country. The tour was amazingly successful, not one bad or angry word was said by anyone to anyone including a gay Separatist and a pro-monarchist. Everyone put the kids first. The tour was a great success, celebrated on the front page of a major Quebec newspaper. In Ottawa they invited us up to lead a seminar inaugurating a change in foreign policy which formally supported artists in war zones.
The artists are the leading figures in the Quebec Separatist movement. Artists willing go to war zones are the vanguard of that community. We proved, in Canada, we could work effectively together. The separatist movement dwindled after that.
Maybe you need to engage in a more creative, humanistic strategy if you want to bring Ukraine back into your sphere of influence.

I’m not a political pundit. I don’t have any special sources of knowledge from within any government, yet I could tell long before Putin took Crimea that he missed the Soviet Union of his youth. Why world leaders thought Putin would stop with Crimea is beyond me. Putin practically held up a blinking neon sign, the size of the moon, telling us he wasn’t done. I get why The Cheeto-in-Chief looked the other way. Trump idolized Putin’s power, but everyone else should have known better. Look what the man did to Chechnya. Why are we surprised at the devastation that’s been unleashed upon the Ukraine? This is how Putin takes what he wants. He has no care for civilian casualties. To Putin, civilians are like specks of dirt he dusts off his boots. They mean nothing to him, and that includes anyone in Russia who doesn’t toe the Soviet line. Ukraine needs NATO to enforce a no fly zone and to set up anti-aircraft and anti-missile armaments on all borders with Ukraine. Russian missiles need to be stopped before there is nothing left of Ukraine to rebuild.

@@ankodango9501, I am not sure why you responded to my simple statement in such depth.
..."hangs noodles on his ears?" That made me laugh only because I don't know what the means. What's with all of the Nazi propaganda?
Ukrainian people deserve sympathy, what is happening to them is atrocious. Putin gave the orders, did he not? Maybe some people think Putin is right but the average citizens in Russia that know the truth do not. Sanctions are in place, more to come. Personally, it bothers me that the innocent people just trying live life on both sides will pay the ultimate price, that seems unfair since they feel powerless.
Not all Russian people have CZcams or social media, the platforms they did have are gone now, CZcams might be blocked soon too. Young tech-savvy people can work around it, but many others can't.
From what I have read, many Russian soldiers did not know why they went to Ukraine, some were conscripts. Sure, maybe some had different motives.
I found your response to be interesting, bottom line is if peace isn't obtained and other countries bring force, we will all pay for it for many years to come. My hope is, leaders will recognize that is completely counterproductive, no one wins in that case. I don't pretend to know all of the answers or situations, however, we are all humans that wish to live our lives in peace. We all deserve to practice that right.
