I picked up an 850 for $100. Used it forfor 20 yrs...amazing sound! Had it completely rebuild for $800 two years ago. Like new! Preforms great on a 8 ohms 2-channel load. Ran it for years in a 4 channel setup. Plenty of power. Love mine!
Hi loved the video I have newer gear like ps audio etc but I still dig my pioneer Sx-650 to power some old zenith allegro 3000 speakers makes Earth Wind and Fire sound heavenly my sx-650 sounded so good to me I sold my Marantz 2270 thank you for great content
The Marantz 2270, ahh...what a great receiver. I'll have to do a video on some Marantz units very shortly. They really do make for a great eve, martini and all.
Just bought a 850 yesterday and holy moly it blows my sx737 away. Much more highs and clearer as you mentioned. Can’t wait for the second clip, especially the review for the SX1010, it’s the best receiver I’ve ever heard! One day! Cheers, keep it up!
Thank you! I appreciate your feedback. Recently, I got my hands on a SX-727 (I believe) in the Champagne finish...Should be interesting getting it up and running. Clip #2 is out today! Sorry for the delay.
awesome review. I actually have the 650 I bought new in the mid 70’s. But needs some work and new switches. The pro is I cannot find anyone qualified to do the repairs.
The SX line has issues with the tuner that are hard to diagnose and repair. I have been restoring turntables constantly over the past month. Not a lot of appealing amps available. Like to find something to work on over the winter. People ask 600 - 700 for SX-650's in Calgary. They sit for a couple weeks but go. Latest table is a Lenco L75. Nice unit.
I do know that the 80 series; I.E. SX-1280 (possibly the 1080 also) have some unobtainable parts in the Tuner that are prone to fail - yes... I didn't think the 50 series was as bad though.
Great video, question Sir did you have to cut any of those wire ties to push to get to the access of the pods? Just was wondering because im wanting to do my SX1050 also. Again thanks for sharing your info and videos 👍🎶
No, I did not have to cut any wires as there is just enough space to move those boards around to clean stuff. With some time and patience, you'll do just fine! Actually, you'll see what I mean with Part 2 of the series, airing today.
I have a Pioneer SX-1050 that I bought new in 1979 or'80. It just recently stopped working. The speaker-sound delay(?) relay stopped engaging. I found a few listings on ebay but I'm not sure if that's a good option or not. Any suggestions?
Sound like it's in protection mode. These receivers basically will not engage the relay if certain conditions are not met. Most common is too much DC voltage at the speaker outputs. Sounds like it's due for service :(
You can really get away with a lot of different speakers. First, it really depends on what you like to listen to - I'd start there. Next, although they are all somewhat similar in sound signature, there really are some apparent differences between the line up - so, it would also depend on what receiver you are referring to.
Really disappointed not seeing the 1010 or any notion of it, the reason i tuned in for 17 minutes. Waste of my time, thumbs down and not a subscriber. Booo

The 1010 is in part II You can watch it on the vibe - it takes time to edit this stuff and I did not want to make a 29 min video; hence why they are in two parts.

Great job articulating the differences! Can't wait to see part 2.
Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I have a SX- 650 and absolutely love it!!!
Great to hear! Thank you for sharing!

the sx-1050 was and his maybe my favorite one ,the sx-1980 is more recent in two years, but i like both
For me, yes - it's the 1050. A sweet spot in the line up.
Far too much power and features than needed.

Thanks for the kind words.
Are you in the US or Canada?
Part 2?

@1JGP1 Well I really appreciate you getting back to me , I will definitely take my time thanks again 👍👍
I think I see a Trans Am under the cover. You're really embracing the vibe.
lol, you are sooo correct! I participated in the 2023 Bandit run up here in Ontario a week or so ago...

forget the two tape monitors on the 650, is one of the main features either than the sound common to all pioneers 70 receivers
What speakers would you recommend? Greetings!

OK telemetry about the sx 750 be cause I have 1 inow it's 50 wpch
You forgot to say please.
I've had the 850 since the late 70's and just lost the left channel.
Ah, that stinks! Have you tried giving the controls and the relay a cleaning? It might just do the trick.

The 1010 is featured in the part 2 of this series...It was just too much content for the first video.
