People complain about arty not realizing that artillery has reduced gold and xp gain after battles. Meaning if a tank and artillery do the same amount of everything (including distance driven, damage done, damage with players assistance, kills, and damage blocked), artillery will still get a worse result just because it's in the game design. That's only saying IF, because tanks almost always block more, spot more, and kill more ranks than arty does. It's harder to get high tier arty than it is to get high tier heavies/meds, so at least pay a little respect for that aspect.
Reading through these comments, a lot of what I see is people hating on arty without giving any other justification for their hatred other than the "clicking" aspect... I play a lot of regular tanks but I own one Artillery, the G.W. Panther and from the time I have spent playing that Artillery, I can say that it is extremely frustrating to play. The dispersion of most artillery is 0.7+, which means that whilst other tanks can aim for weak-spots, you often can't hit a penetrable spot with an Artillery unless you are very lucky, meaning that a tank with 1250 damage base, will average about 300-400, which is actually the same as a lot of tank destroyers and heavy tanks of the same tier. So whilst artillery takes little skill in the respect that you can often click and splash something with HESH shells... It takes an incredible about of patience and discipline to remain calm when you are missing shot after shot. Next point, most of these tanks that take skill will have heavily armored spots and substantial amounts of health, whilst the vast majority off Artillery has paper thin armor and significantly less health, this makes the artillery incredibly ineffective at close and medium ranges, whilst heavy tanks generally excess at close-far ranges. The balance is put in place, and it adds an interesting aspect to the game in that you can protect and allow your heavy tanks to go hull down if you kill the artillery early on, otherwise you are going to suffer the consequences. I play the T29 also, probably my favorite tank in the Garage at present, and I know for a fact that it is an artillery magnet. Why? Because a hull down T29 is invincible against all tanks it will meet unless they are using a very high pen gun with premium ammo. So when people say "artillery doesn't take skill", of course it does... It requires significantly more map awareness to ensure that enemies cannot get close to you, it requires the same amount of knowledge of "hotspots" for specific tank types, particularly heavies, it requires a decent understanding of the aiming circle otherwise you won't hit or damage a thing without HESH, it requires patience and discipline. All tanks have their strengths and their weaknesses, artillery is no different. That's just my two cents!
This might seem totally OP and unfair, but I bet you that before this he had 10 games in a row with zero dmg... This thing is so bloody inaccurate when it doesn't behave.
NOTE: I AM REFERRING TO HIGHER TIER ARTY, NOT THE LOW TIER ONE: This is a thought-provoking impulse to all the players who think that arty requires skill: Just imagine you drive your (heavy) tank on a map with very little cover and you get spotted by an enemy tank. Suddenly you are receiving indirect fire from a player who is sitting at the other end of map. You can not see him, you do not know his exact location, but he can shoot you again and again. Of course he is not hitting you with every shell, but if he hits you it is pretty much over. His grenades have mostly a much higher angle, so they hit the upper side of your tank. This side is not known for its thick armor... (Furthermore, your armor counts nothing in such encounters, it will only slow you down). What can you do against it?? Exactly, nothing. Sounds fair doesn´t it? I never played arty very much, but due to the personal missions I give it a try and holy moly, it is unbalanced and easy as hell. I often used only one hand to play and most of the time I just aimed at enemy tanks and were still able to do a nasty load of damage. What most arty players seem to forget is the fact, they do not have to aim for weakspots. Which brings me to my next point. They do not have to need for weakspots, but they can (engine deck etc.) to maximize their damage per shot and you still can do nothing against it. There are some maps where arty can do pretty much nothing, but they are definitely the minority. I am also aware of the arguments arty players often bring up to defend themselves: -long reload and aimtime, accuracy With some exceptions, arty is relatively inaccurate and needs a lot of time to reload and aim. Does this matter much? Not really. The first thing the enemy will encounter is the rest of your team, which will slow the enemy advance down. As a result of this, 90% of the matches will focus on breaking through several choke points and arty loves pre-aiming at those points. Thanks to the slow development most matches have, the long reload and aimtime is pretty much redundant. -very vulnerable in direct combat Undoubtly the greatest weakness and balancing factor for arty. But thanks to RNG, it is still not certain to be the winner of a direct confrontation with artillery. So this so called balancing factor is lead ad absurdum. -dependent to the team´s skill Even a bad team costs time to kill, time which can be used by artillery to land a couple of shots. You will rarely see matches where artillery ends up with zero damage, unless it s played by a braindead fart. In the current state, arty is still not very well balanced. I understand the idea behind it, but it is just poorly executed atm.
Michael Moretti I can assure you, I am playing a lot of arty, partially due to the personal missions. There are a lot of maps and cases where you simply can not avoid artillery fire. How do you you want to avoid something, that can hit you over the entire map?? How do you avoid artiller fire in a slower tank on an open map, e.g. Redshire or Wadi?? This has nothing to do with this "L2P" argument arty drivers are hiding about. It is more about the fact that artillery has evolved into something, that has way too much influence on the outcomes of games. Please, read my comments more carefully.
Michael Moretti Oh my God, someone who agrees with me... you're one of the few people who don't make you feel as if you're talking to a sack of potatoes...
It seems I attracted a lot of Arty players with my thesis. So do I get most of you right, you want to buff arty, a class that can fire indirectly over the entire map?? Why not also buff its splash radius?? Or its rate of fire?? This is World of TANKS after all, you do not need a superior spg-class that dominates every battle... I will stand by my thesis, playing arty requires zero skill, it is purely RNG.
Well yeah...looking at that (as an arty player) I really have to admit: its damn op. But still you have to remember, this is a T10 tank. I ve grinded all the way up the french line, it really takes time and it can be damn frustrating. And every line there are some really shitty tanks. French T5 is horrible. T7 and T8 are also not easy. T9 is pretty fun (first one with turret). Im also doing the american line till T8 now, overall it was much easier than the french. I never played the British line but Ive heard they have some really really shitty tanks in it. So yea, getting an really op T10 tank does require a lot of grind and arty can be very horrble for that. First off I takes endless XP points and than your XP rate can be damn low, espacially if you re top tier. And you only have a good round most of the time when your team is not dogshit and tries to protect ya (not everybody can run like french arty :D ). So you earned a little bit of "op"-ness. Also the WT E100 or the T57 Heavy are really damn OP but you also have to go thru alot of shit to get there. But I do agree they should nerf that shell arc. With this in the enemy team you ll be save almost no where. Second thing I want you to remind: He runs that tank only with HE-Rounds (8000 credits per shot), premium consumables (10.000 /20.000). So imaging a typically WoT match: After 2 minutes you get rushed by 2 lights because your team does not give a shit. Maybe you can shoot one, after that you are dead meat. Thats 50.000+ minus without ammunation costs. Having 3 games like this in a row which will happen lol can really hurt you money wise. And without this setup this tank is not so op anymore. The horrible 1.1 acc (Obj 261 has 0.66, Russian T10 arty) will make you curse because misses are unforgiveable without that huge splash. Also you will have even more reload time (+10 percent) and even worse aiming time (+10 percent to the already worst aiming time ingame). So doing like this wont be really possible, even at a larger map. In the end lets just say: Yes, it is op. But I dont think to the extend that you might think after watching this video. Cheers
david9210 Yeah french T5 is like -23 damage t KV1. -15 damage to T150, blew off tracks. -bumped into slope in front of the target because the gun arc is so flat. -landed directly under the target, but still didn't deal damage because the splash radius is so low. It has that flat trajectory, that makes it very likely for your shots to hit the front of a tank rather than the top, so you will only tickle higher tier heavies unless you get their sides. The gold ammo is apcr. That just means, you can actually penetrate the front of a tank, but if you get the side, it will most likely get eaten by the tracks. You are happy to break 300 experience with the damn thing.
Omg this fucking pl bastard hit all his shots he fired !!! I have tried some arty too ... the tier 5 M41 HMC and if I fully aim I hit like 30% percent of the shots...
NetherPrime Well, no. It takes an ass long time to reload and aim, artillery has no armor and low HP. If even 1 light tank gets through your teams front line, it means that you're basically fucked. (unless the light tank player is unexperienced, which is rare). Even the smallest and most ridicilous things on the map can block your fire, and you rarely even get full damage done, since this guy was using gold 24/7.
DubstepinWithSmoke true :) they should be removed, or they can create no arty mod. In wotblitz there are still no artys, however my stats are amazing there so, beacose If in wot exist one think that can stop me, its arty.
VideoMasteri hardest classes? yes it takes a lot of skill to aim, be little patient and move 5-10m after every shot. Not like when heavies need to angle, sidescrape, wiggle their turret (ex. E 100), if u have russian tank, you need to fully aim and know enemy weakspots. Or as light tanks know every good brush, know how to drive to dodge shots, flank enemies. Yeah when u consider that arty is sooooo hard to play right ?
I hate seeing arty players default to their premium high explosive shots, they're no better than the people who pack all HEAT. There really needs to be a hard limit on how much premium ammo you can carry in your tanks, like 10% of your total ammo capacity or something. It saddens me to see people with high win rates using exclusively prem ammo, just buying their skill.
CGC's main strenght is spalsh radius. Premium HE gives you more splash radius. And it would be pay2win if it would cost gold. But it does not so it is just more expensive. And the expensive one is almost always the better one.
I meant buying stats for lots of silver. It seems to make sense here but on normal tanks that just mindfuckig and annoying. For example almost every E-25 uses gold for every shot :V That's dumb. I use gold ammo only against tanks with higher tier than mine.
in a way, even using silver for premium ammo can be indirectly pay2win. I sure as hell don't have the funds to be shooting gold all willy nilly, with my non-prem account and my lack of tier 8 premium tanks. I'm struggling to just have the credits to buy tanks in the first place. The people who are overflowing with credits are either godlike players or they spend real money to make their credit income higher.
the problem with arty, is that its really hard to hide, and then thats what you do every game.... hide from the arty, because the moment you peak out to actually DO something, arty blasts you..... remove camping, promote hiding behind the biggest rock you can find.... wp wp...
And when I play in my arty the terrain almost ALWAYS covers them even on open ground, or they're moving too fast for arty transverse to catch up without dispersion fucking you over why are games so different tf

that is the whole point of indirect fire dude
FV4202 on X Tier? O. O
How did you pen the Tiger ll?, and...LET ME DO TOPGUN PLEASE@#$%^&*
This replays shows, why artys needs to be removed. The player did a great job, but it was too easy. Maybe artys should have a harder controling.
Artillery is already one of the hardest classes :/
VideoMasteri you must find breathing hard too, it's not the hardest just the most rng depedent.
